Why did Davetello get banned?

I had a shock as I logged in today to find two familiar names banned out of the sudden. I understood Dave's situation fairly quickly by looking at his last few posts, but Coola's case was less obvious. His last few posts didn't reveal anything suspicious.

I sincerely hope it's just a temporary ban. It's not the first time Dave exploded like this, and staying away from the forum might be the best course for him at the moment until he cools down and return normal later. I've seen his "normal" posts in the TMNT sections quite regularly and even find many of them a good read. Dave, if you're reading this, please find a way to set things right and come around okay? I understand that you could have personal issues setting you back, but just remember that you still have friends here who would rather see you return as your normal self again, as soon as you get your troubles sorted out. Oh yeah, and don't stay awake for 48 hours again, you know how bad it can affect your health, mood and temper (which requires lots of work). Wish you all the best!

I don't usually visit the Everything Else section, in a way, this unfortunate turn of event sort of brought me here

FWIW I think the biggest problems Dave had were the people ("friends"?) who were supposedly egging him on in his arguments while many more people from a wide demographic of forum users who gave him the sound advice to ignore people he didn't like we're immediately vilified as being part of some vast conspiracy against him.

Those people should be ashamed of themselves. IMO those are not friends. Look what happened because of it.

The other thing was that he needed to have the last word and didn't know how to just leave an unproductive discussion.

I don't care what anyone thinks of me or anyone else, but the very best advice anyone could give to anyone else is to ignore people you don't like and don't respond to things that get you emotional. Simple.

Yeah, was likewise curious about Coola.

Shame about Dave, he did start some interesting topics and whatnot sometimes... But there's a line that was crossed, by maybe about a mile or two, and stooping to become a no-holds-barred runaway train of anger is a low point no one should reach for.

Hope he's able to find some of the inner peace and whatnot he so clearly needs. And hope those affected by that - what ever that was - are able to put it out of mind pretty soon. Some pretty nasty stuff was said

but not worth holding onto any of it.

The things he said, not just in those two threads were really disgusting and borderline disturbing ('Monroe and Princess Di deserved to die young because they were money whores')

I feel kinda bad. There's been plenty of times in the past where he PMed me saying he was angry and upset and "I feel like saying this...", and I'd be like "Dude, please don't," and somehow he'd calm down and things would blow over. But I wasn't around at all yesterday, and I feel like maybe I could've talked him down again before things got bad. I guess not, though, a lot of it was building for a while, obviously. Guess it was inevitable.

I've probably talked to him more than most, he's a sharp guy but he's very open about his mental issues, his depression and anger and whatnot, and I do think some people might be more considerate of that sometimes. I mean, I don't know, I just know I've got my problems and been through counseling and told flat-out I don't need any medication, so I can only guess what it's like to be someone who has such little control of themselves and their feelings that they DO need it. I also know he's said he's had complications with his meds recently and other things have been going on. Point being, he's not a bad guy, but he has issues, and there are factors. It's never as simple as, "Eh, that guy is just an asshole." If that were the criteria for damnation, this place would have all of five people. I won't defend any of what was said - by anyone, honestly - but I definitely saw some cats who couldn't resist poking the hornet's nest once they heard a buzz. For shame.

I was curious about Coola as well, so thanks for clearing that up. I will say if he was banned for "bait" comments like that, he's far from the only one guilty. At least it's just for a while. But he honestly seemed kind of tame compared to many, Iunno. Seems like an odd pick. Guess he just got the short straw.
