Powder that's fantastic, try to spread that pic around social media to see if any of the major comic websites pick up on it. Would be hilarious to see them think it was "official."

Holy Moly! The piece is great powder and the right amount of twisted.

I've only just managed to read the issue and I'm reeling, I didn't cry but I feel all empty! He has to be dead, I don't think they left it even hinting he was alive, but he won't stay dead for long, at least I hope not. So much happened in this arc, it truly is the standout of the entire IDW run for me, they really did a fantastic job.

Theory for 45 after going back and re-reading some things.
I have a pretty strong feeling about this. One character's dialogue seems much more on point after the events of #44.

Spoiler:
I just re-read the introduction of the Rat King and I'm fairly positive he's going to be making an appearance again soon. If you look back:
1) The Rat King talks about setting the pieces for the 'bigger game' being lead up to. He talks about sacrifices and pawns and winning pieces, like a chess game. He refers to Leonardo as his 'Knight'. Maybe he'll force him into his service in exchange for Donatello's life?
2) He plays on Splinter's guilt as a father. He even says right near the end of his mind game with Splinter, "I admire your single-minded desire to protect your children, Rat. A useful trait indeed." Hmm...
3) He makes a point of saying, "Pawns can be saved or sacrificed. Sometimes that depends on the whims of the player- other times, the strength of the move in play." Donnie just made one hell of a play, but he did have to sacrifice himself to do it. Maybe the Rat King will admire that trait? Leo is the Knight. Maybe Donnie is the Bishop?

So now that the Rat King has them in a tight spot, it seems like a good opportunity to get things into motion with the Pantheon.

Here's my review of TMNT #44 at TMNT Entity.

Superb conclusion and man, I can't wait to see Cory Smith back again.

While it does sort of feel like the book is knocking down its pins in the race to #50, it's also hugely satisfying to see some sort of closure on one of the book's major antagonists. Krang's been around since the first issue and his arc has been building steadily since then. As his big send off, this was definitely fulfilling.

As for Donnie... well...

I really wish IDW hadn't spoiled their own major plot point by releasing preview pages of the Free Comic Book Day special in January. That was five months in advance. I try my best to avoid spoilers, but unless you live under a rock it's pretty hard to escape them for five months.

So yeah. IDW ruined the ending of their own comic for me. Pretty bummed about that. It's Dark Leo all over again (the same month the first issue of the Dark Leo arc came out, IDW released previews of the issue where he went back to normal 4-5 months in advance).

I just don't get them.

But THAT bit of whining aside, it was a great finale to the arc and has me pumped for "Vengeance".

EDIT:

Bobby clarified in the comments section on my site that it was Diamond's doing, not IDW's. I done soiled my sterling reputation. Point and laugh.

I don't think it's fair to blame IDW for a spoilery release that was ultimately Diamond's fault (I think that was who put out the wrong page in the preview?), but yeah, that really did take some wind out of the sails of this issue's climax. If I hadn't read that I would probably still be sitting in front of my computer, dumbfounded at Donnie's apparent ultimate fate

but other than that I totally agree with you about how well IDW has handled Krang. It has been a long slow burn, and even now that he'll likely be out of the picture for a while, or far off in the peripheries, it feels like a natural conclusion (or extended pause, should he ever come back into the limelight).

I have not read any spoilers. So this truly shocked me. And I feel that this issue overall deserved an A+. This was the turning point for IDW. I feel like we have reached their version of the "Future Shark" trilogy, where every issue from here on out is "must read and unpredictable."

Honestly, I think IDW first set itself apart to the TMNT fans already reading it with the "Secret History of the Foot Clan" mini-series. But I agree that THIS is gonna be a defining moment for IDW for a long time to come... and they are getting a LOT of publicity outta this!

Anyone somewhat disappointed how "weak" Shredder was in this issue? Krang literally beat the crap out of him and left him battered and beaten on the floor. If Baxter didn't save him he would have been dead.

Considering this series still has Splinter constantly talking about how Shredder is their main enemy and must be defeated, it felt like the wind was taken out of it by seeing Shredder knocked out so easily. It makes you wonder how Shredder can recover from his injuries if he is to have a huge climatic fight in issue #50 with the Turtles.

His injuries got nothing on Donnie's, and you can bet all four Turtles will be there for the big showdown in #50, so...

Koya and Bludgeon got worse injuries were worse than Shredder's were.

Do Bebop and Rocksteady finally get passed muscle bound jokes that can be beat with ease? It makes me wonder what Laird could have done with them during his solo tenure.

No, I thought it was cool. It was true to life, in that just because you're a badass doesn't mean you're gonna win every fight you're in. Also consider that Shredder was thrown off guard big time when he was greeted by Krang on the other side of the portal.

Exactly; it's SPLINTER saying Shredder is the greatest threat. Donny had the right idea.

Now, Shredder is the greatest threat to the Turtles specifically, because their enmity is personal. Krang is the greatest threat because, y'know, terraforming.

And Krang is a giant armored tank of an exosuit with missiles, lasers, and who knows what. Saki is, at the end of the day, a man. I just find it somewhat unbelievable that Leo, Mike, and Raph alone were enough to take out the squishy pink warlord, but that's a different topic...

Okay, but on topic, I really like that Shredder occasionally takes one on the nose (as in #12, and when the turtles wreck his party in #28, and in this issue). Shredder wants everyone to think he's some big badass who can't be touched, but the guy reeks of hubris and always has in previous incarnations too. It's a trait he and Krang both share, and it's been his downfall multiple times.

IDW has done a great job selling Shredder--this is easily my favorite version of the character--but c'mon, this is a guy who died the same issue he showed up in Mirage, was Krang's bumbling bitch in Fred Wolf, wound up humiliated and marginalized in TMNTA... He's a threat, but you can't buy into the hype with Shredder. Dude has such an inflated ego and tunnel vision about his destiny to rule yadda yadda that he consistently sets himself up to fail and never seems to learn from the experience, whatever universe we're talking about.

Besides, Krang generally got the better of him in Fred Wolf and TMNTA as well, so this is consistent.

Yeah, mostly Shredder is "hype" or for better choice a myth or symbol. His presence is bigger than life. The Turtles together can hand Shredder his ass, but one on one with Leo like in RTNY Shredder almost won that sword fight.
