The coma/Metalhead mind-meld situation is likely to be temporary, (I can't imagine issue #50 wouldn't have all four turtles fighting side by side.) As for his shell I think that either it could be healed to what it was with the help of some combination of ooze and ancient foot texts/techniques OR more interestingly what if while inhabiting Metalhead Donnie makes himself a metal shell? But as neat as I think this might be I doubt that any of the TMNT would really leave their basic design stage for very long. Either way this is a major happening for the comic and I have never been more excited for #50 and beyond.

I agree totally. I mentioned the idea of a metal shell in my comment. It would be cool that he turns something bad into something good. Something that always made him stand out differently. Later on they could use some spell or something and turn it back into a real shell, if the writers wanted to.

I honestly don't see what the big deal is with this guy. I don't know why he does this, but he usually does it only once, maybe twice per topic as long as it relates to Shredder somehow. The ONLY time he posts a lot is when people get too in his face which of course makes him respond over and over again.

I say just let him do his one post, roll your eyes as you skim past it, and continue on with the rest of the topic business as usual. At least he's not like someone that fills the thread with how he/she/it disagrees with how the series handles it's characters.

I'm currently playing catch up on this series, ordering the collected volumes through Amazon and I'm currently on The Secret History of the Foot Clan.

Of course the big news from this issue (44) was unmissable - someone posted a link to a buzz article about it on my FB and of course I couldn't control my curiosity so I read further...seen the 2 major pages in question...so shocked...so sad...still coming to terms with it 3 days after finding out!!

I think a rehash of Donnie from TMNT vol. 3 as a cyborg turtle would really work in this universe. Have Harold fix him up with some tech, or even merge Donnie into Metalhead.

I don't think that they would need to give him a full robot body, maybe just fix up his shell so it's metallic. A new design should be simple enough for new artists to use and work into new stories and cover art. I think its important that the turtles are instantly recognizable so I wouldn't expect much of a departure from what we have now.

I know people might go crazy at this but didn't Don have some kind of electronics attached to his shell in the Bay-Verse TMNT?
It doesn't show how bad the damage is maybe it will be a patch job similar to this or Metalheads backpack ala the old Playmates figure.

He had an X-box strapped to it, that's all. Wasn't part of his body or anything like that, it's just gear he carried around (for seemingly no reason).

I'm catching up too. Rather than reading from where I left off (Dark Leo saga), I started again from the very beginning. April and the lab reminds me of the movie very much.

Anyway, I'm at the part where

Raph and Casey were kidnapped by Karai, and Raph escaped, leaving Casey as Shredder's sacrifice..

Just firing a shot out there, as I said I'm miles behind #44 but knowing what happens in #44 my guess is this:

Don will be "re-animated" but only when Splinter is forced to make a decision - I believe Splinter will forfeit his own life so that Donnie can return as he was before #44. That or alternatively Splinter will have to decide between killing Shredder or re-animating Don. Obviously he will bring Don back to life, for Shredder to fight again another day.

So someone will have to be sacrificed so Don can return, and my guess if it were to happen it would be Splinter.

Just an idea off the top of my head, like I said I've no idea what's happened since Secret History of the Foot Clan so I could be way out.

I would love if IDW eventually killed Splinter in a meaningful way, and I would LOVE it if he did sacrifice himself for his sons.

I find it odd if Don really passes away in this issue for two reasons. I don't feel like this issue was built up enough...we must remember this is a profit game and if they were going to kill a turtle they would increase the print run and advertise the hell out of it.

Second, they teased the death of Casey Jones earlier more than this and he never died.
