Second, they teased the death of Casey Jones earlier more than this and he never died.
A headline saying a major character dies in a comic is obviously a ploy to bring in sales from casual readers. We know that IDW would never kill off a Turtle, but the "casuals" who only read the comic off and on would probably pick up this issue just to see what happened.

Its the same reason DC and Marvel advertise "The death of Wolverine" or "The Death of Robin" or "The Death of Batman and Superman" even though we always know they'll come back to life soon enough.

Issue 50 is a double-sized issue, does that mean 44 pages?

Quote:
Kevin, Bobby and I just had a brainstorming a few days ago about our plans leading up to issue #100, so, no, 50 is not the end. But, it is a double-sized special issue that serves as the grand finale for a long-running storyline. But never fear… issue #51 will follow on time the next month.
^ Just curious, will issue #50 still be the standard price if its going to be more pages? Bobby?

Where is this headline you speak of? It isn't listed on the comic itself nor do I recall it being listed anywhere else before the day this issue was released. I see a mention at the very end of idw's plot of the issue, but come on!

Even the covers show nothing of Don's death UNTIL they decided "Oh, shizz, people think we killed him. We need to make a second print with his carcass on the front cover. Let's just go with the media attention we weren't expecting." Just doesn't make sense any other way.

A lot of comic news and review sites made a headline saying that. IGN's was, "The death of a Turtle" and then people complained in the comment section about spoilers so they changed it to "Shocking twist in new TMNT issue." lol.

Perhaps because IDW isn't run by such media whores as DC and Marvel?

Right...those were after the release, nothing before the release to help advertise it. Nobody knew until they turned that last page, including those review sites.

Did you know in advance that #44 was going to be the "Death Of Donatello?" I didn't. I knew when superman died, I knew when spider-man died, I knew when wolverine died in advance...and I don't even read them.

It's really not an opinion, its more fact that there was zero advertising. And I can't imagine IDW is so small they wouldn't advertise this as being a death because they found many review sites to advertise it after it was released. They did more for the Casey/Shredder issue as far as advance notice is concerned and the Dark Leo story.

I was just mathing out how much it's going to cost me to buy all the #50 variant covers... If the books ends up costing $8 bucks a pop like the annuals or 30th Anniversary I'm expecting a flat wallet for sure.

Yeah man, I was completely shocked. I never check for spoilers, it's like what's the point of reading the book then?

It was important to us that the events of #44 remain as secret as possible to have the maximum storytelling effect.

TMNT #50 will be 40 pages I think-- maybe more, but I think 40 pages. Expect a price increase for it, yes.

Bobby, I want to thank you, both personally and on behalf of my fellow fans, for creating what is in my opinion the best incarnation of the Ninja Turtles ever. You have stood on the shoulders of giants, and become giants yourselves.

I grew up with these four Turtles and their exploits, and it's amazing to see what you guys have been doing with them. Thank you for caring about Leo, Don, Raph, and Mike just as much as we do.

Cool. I don't mind the price increase, we are getting double pages after all.

Besides if issue #50 is as epic as it sounds, you guys are going to need as many pages as possible to tell the story and fit all the characters in.

Different newspapers and websites like Wikipedia are saying that Donnie passed away. I believe is not true, he can't be dead.

If Casey died, I would not mind, April can have a new guy as her boyfriend. In Donnie's case, he is irreplaceable. I don't think he will be a android or a cyborg, or to be a in vegetative state, but he could be on a wheelchair temporarily not forever like Xavier from X-Men or Batgirl who become Oracle after being paralyzed for life by the Joker.

It's all about the how, not the what

I love reading solicits and occasional spoilers to glean what I can about upcoming plot points. Even if I know what's going to happen or I have a decent enough idea of what to expect, I love reading the actual stories bcause you can't get the whole of a story from a few simple facts. Just my point of view though!

Woah woah Casey is way more than just April's boyfriend. He's had a storyline stewing since issue #1...

I'm sure Donnie will eventually be restored to mint condition but until then I am interested in seeing his recovery. More so than Leo's.

I know about Casey's story in the IDW comics; it's pretty sad. But I care about Donnie a lot. He is my favorite and like you, I want to see how he recovers. It affected me seeing that issue. I never felt that way for a comic character, not even for Superman or when I was a major fan of the Thundercats. I always love Donnie since the original series.
