That would've been perfect. Nothing against Viola Davis, though - she's terrific and will do a great job, I'm sure. Casting in this movie is quite good overall.

The trailer was pretty decent? A little... dourer than I expected, weirdly enough? At times, anyway. I mean, it's about a team of supervillains being used by the government, but it's one of those movies I hope will be a lot of fun and not take itself too seriously. This DC Cinematic Universe desperately needs some fun, and that kinda-deranged, violent kind would be perfect here. Really hoping they keep the Hot Topic Angst to a minimum. But it's got potential and I'm still pretty excited to see it.

Still think this version of the Joker looks stupid as hell, but hopefully the performance makes it work?

Today we will release the same footage that has been illegally circulating on the web, in the form it was created and high quality with which it was intended to be enjoyed. We regret this decision as it was our intention to keep the footage as a unique experience for the Comic Con crowd, but we cannot continue to allow the film to be represented by the poor quality of the pirated footage stolen from our presentation.”

WB is obviously trying to pump up the "controversy" here, IMO. Trailers are recorded at Comic-Con all the time, and it almost always helps the movie. This is footage engineered to get people excited, and it did the job. Their official release has nabbed 11 million views since yesterday. The studios fully understand how it works - the footage is officially "exclusive", but if it gets leaked, they have a free window to release it to everyone. They'll make a big stink about how disappointed they are, but this is the best possible result for them and they know that.

I don't know how they're going to give 10 villains proper screentime. I know Joker/Harley and Will Smith will be the major characters, but you have like 10 villains overall.

That's the thing cubed, it's the Suicide Squad, it's not nor should it be equal and proper screen time. A lot of them will probably die as the film progresses (I'm placing my money on Diablo or the rope guy, slip not?, going out first), its inherent. That's what makes it so different. granted, boomerang, Harley or dead shot will most likely make it out alive, or far enough, but the others are kind of up in the air.

Hell, in the animated suicide squad, KGBeast had literally one line and maybe a minute of screen time before he was killed.

Yeah, you could look at it as "what a waste" or "it should focus on all of them" but at that point you would not be wanting to watch a SUICIDE squad movie.

Unfortunately, their lineup is so biased, it's pretty easy to assume who survives and who doesn't. Are they a Batman/Arrow villain? They'll survive. Do we not know who their primary antagonist is? They'll die.

Croc, Harley, Deadshot, and Boomerang will all survive.

Enchantress will as well because her powers are just too crazy to kill off.

The rope and tattoo guys? Dead meat. Katana, well... not sure about her. She could go either way.

I've been to SDCC the last six years, and this year...was oh so very different than the others, when it comes to motion pictures. Yes, this is anecdotal, but...I walked into Hall H without a line this year, which is not something anyone could have done at any point during the previous five.

No, I don't think SDCC is helping the movie industry anymore.
I've heard people refer to it as the Scott Pilgrim affect.
Studios hoping to hype up their movies before the geekerati, only to find out just how fickle we are at all times.

The bias is there. Just because the comics mainly focus around those few now.

I really think croc is up in the air, though. All of them besides the main 3. And really, if they only plan to make 1 suicide squad movie, I doubt anyone besides Harley is. Dead shots role in the comics now is mainly suicide squad, batman could do without him. And boomerang was even killed in the animated movie.

Yeah, but Margot Robbie, Jai Courtney, and Will Smith are the bankable stars of this movie. (Plus the girl doing Enchantress.) I don't see Warner Bros "hobbling" any potential sequels by doing away with the biggest headliners.

There's a few things you can expect from every Suicide Squad story that have me really excited to see this.

- At least one member will betray the team.
- At least one member will be killed, possibly During or After betraying the team.
- The team will Fail Spectacularly at whatever their given task, because they're not even a team, just a pack of jackals forced to work together because nobody cares if they die or not.

This will be very, very, very interesting and a lot of fun to watch.

That's part of the fun of this movie though: we know to a point how it's going to play out, we just don't know who, where or when. Again, the animated one wasted no time at all to eliminate one member, and I'm really thinking slip knot is going to fill that role this time around.

Leo, pretty accurate summary of SS, especially the Last one. they're given a task, but only a couple of them actually care about it, while another one goes along with it to actually perform a different task without the others knowing, then somewhere along the way another member decides on yet another task, and at that point half of them are either dead or gone. A literal mess. And if the joker is involved in any way besides the flashback/origin, it's almost a guarantee that Harley's going to flip on them at some point.

I haven't been studying this one as closely as I have been BvS, but I wouldn't be surprised if Harley's just using the Squad mission to help her and Joker escape custody.

I don't think they'd "waste" Joker as being only a minor plot point or a flashback scene.

I think this movie is going to completely bomb in the box office. With the name like "Suicide Squad" nobody outside of comic fans are going to touch it with a ten foot pole. The movie is also very dark to the point where kids/teens are not going to be interested (and unlike other R rated movies they won't be begging their parents to take them), and Joker is really the only recognizable character to the masses.

I have no idea why DC went with this as one of their next big movies instead of launching anything from Wonder Woman/Supergirl/Flash/Green Arrow, etc next alongside Batman/Superman.

I'll be very surprised if this does well, although if Joker is well received I can see word of mouth getting around to get people to watch it just for him.

I think the movie will do decent. It's going to have Joker and Harley Quinn...those two are popular enough.

Plus you've got Will Smith.

Well, the difference is they had a cute talking raccoon. And the trailers were very humor-based.

Yeah, and this one has a hot psycho chick. And the early trailer so far is very dark. Not everyone wants all that much humor and talking animals.

As a self-proclaimed Batman fan, I have no trouble admitting that my main draw for this movie is the hot psycho chick. Harley Quinn, if done right, is awesome.

Not everything has to be kid/teen-friendly and dumbed-down for the masses - IMO, it's about bloody time that they started making some comic book movies specifically for adult fans, not just homogenized family-friendly fare to sell toys. There are literally dozens of kid-friendly versions of DC & Marvel fare out there -- let the grown-ups (not to mention the people who actually buy the comics) have something for once. I'm so tired of every single movie having to be appealing to the mass market - if you make a good movie, it'll be successful regardless.

Bite your tongue, boy - Harley is always awesome. Though I will admit to having done my fair share of bitching back in the day, when I first saw her redesign for the New 52.

My point is that Guardians was clearly a family movie meant for a wide audience.

This is clearly not. The first trailer was pretty good, and if they want to turn a profit anything close to Guardians they'll have to maintain that level of quality in marketing. It's too offbeat of a film to flounder in future advertisements and still be successful.

They need to make a Harley/Ivy movie or have them together in a Batman film. Ivy/Harley is actually canon in the comics, although its usually and on-and-off thing since Harley always goes back to the Joker eventually.

The Ivy/Harley pairing is probably the best lesbian pairing in comics. Ivy finally learns to appreciate humans instead of hating them and only caring about plants, and Harley gets away from her abusive relationship with the Joker.

I especially like in the new 52 comics has scenes with Ivy in a towel and Harley laying on her lap in bed, and all the suggestive innuendo between them.
