A question for people who don't like Hun's design

Which of the following changes would make you more happy with his design?

Bulking up, blonde hair dye, facial scars or a ponytail? You can only pick one.

This thread is going to smite CyberCubed...

Anyway, I chose facial scars. I don't think the other three options would work for me. Bulking up wouldn't go with Hun's skinny legs, dyeing his hair would be unnecessary, and growing a ponytail would be ridiculous.

I honestly don't care. I get why people are up in arms over how different Nick Hun is from IDW/4Kids, but hey, it's not like Hun was that huge of character until IDW. Nick's changes to April, Casey, and Donnie irritate me much more.

He was a major villain in a seven season long TV show.

It's not so much how he looks but more on the lines on how he is written in the show.

What makes Hun work in the past was that he had an antagonist relationship with Casey. In 2k7, he killed Casey's dad and in the new version of the comics, he is his dad. A new angle of their relationship makes Hun a really interesting character to watch out for while in this show, he's more a physical obstacle to deal with and less of a character to interact.

I don't want see Hun's tragic backstory. Tragic backstories are becoming too much a cliche in children shows. I want Hun to have ulterior motives like Bebop and Rocksteady and maybe interacting with some of the characters in the criminal underworld to make him stand out. I don't think that's too much to ask.

In TMNT as a whole, spanning all the different incarnations, Hun wasn't major. He didn't get "promoted" to that status until he was carried over to a second incarnation, namely IDW.

And considering the drastic changes made to more global characters (Donatello, April O'Neil, Rocksteady, Bebop, and Casey Jones, in that order), Hun seems like small potatoes by comparison.

But that was because he was a new character. Of course he wasn't in anything prior, he didn't exist yet. Its like saying Old Hob wasn't a major character till IDW. Of course, the characters weren't created yet.

Hun did appear in a few Mirage Tales issues even before IDW/Nick.

Yeah, but Old Hob evolved significantly in 50 issues. Whereas Hun, while a badass, didn't really develop much as a character. He served a role, but that never really changed. He seems like more of a blank slate than previous "one version only" characters, if that makes sense.

To me, Nick Hun is like changing Stockman from Black to White. I don't get why they felt they had to make the change, but it's nowhere near as egregious to me as, say, turning Casey Jones into a 100% psychotic guy in a hockey mask for a total of three episodes (Fred Wolf).

Also, I wasn't really on the Nick part of the forums much until recently, so maybe I missed all the debate/hype/outrage over the reinventions/mutilations of other characters.

I forgot about Tristan Jones' version of Hun. I think Tristan is the most screwed-over TMNT writer ever... never got to finish his storyline, which was one of the few bright spots of Tales Volume 2.

I don't have too much of a problem with Hun's design...but that's probably because I didn't watch the 2k3 series. I think it makes sense to have a Chinese guy as leader of a Chinese gang, personally.

That aside, I guess I could understand why some would dislike the change or reimagining, if you will, of him. I do hope they do more on him, though, and that there's more to him than his being a Bruce Lee caricature/homage. I like that there's a rivalry there with Casey, or an attempt at one, but...there needs to be more to it than his only being a criminal and Casey just outright hating criminals.

Well Hun is sort of an antithesis when it comes to combat. While Casey is all about using baseball bats and sport equipment as weapons, Hun use only empty hand martial arts.
