I disagree with your math, I can read 20 comics in an hour, while I can at best get through two episodes of a cartoon or TV show, no matter how you break it down. I happen to be a ridiculously fast reader, but still, tracking them down aside once you have all the materials in front of you it's much easier to do a marathon comics run than a TV show. Just sayin'!

Yeah, I've read a 540 page comic in under 6 hours, much easier than a tv show, book, or cartoon.

You just reminded me of the time I got soooooooo drunk and read Watchmen in one sitting. OH MY GOD I've never been so depressed in my life. I think I sat in a dark room for two days by myself until I sobered up, convinced humanity was too sick to survive.

Please don't do any of that. I'd rather take a chance on the Elevator Ritual than to get drunk and read all of Watchmen. At the very least don't get any Jack involved.

It's more passive to watch a TV show but it's not necessarily easier. I love most of those shows you listed but I still don't marathon them too often. For example I haven't watched the DCAU in 8 years, I watched 2k3 and the OT like 3 years ago and don't see myself doing it again anytime soon, I just prefer to watch other stuff that I haven't seen before re-watching something. It also makes the experience fresher after a long time has passed. Still shows like Pokemon can be overwhelming with 900+ episodes, so when I'm in the Pokemon mood I check out a "saga" which is three years or so of episodes. I couldn't actually watch all those episodes, I'd be tired. That's the attitude you should take for Star Wars.

There are story arcs that you can follow, you don't need to read everything, read the stories that seem interesting to you. Want to know what happened between ESB and RoTJ? Read the SotE book/comic and watch the cutscenes from the video game. Want to know what happened with the Empire after RotJ and know most characters that are featured in all post-ROTJ books? Read the Thrawn trilogy, it sets up most major characters. Prefer space battles? Read the X-Wing series. Want to know of the next big threat after the Empire? Read the New Jedi Order series. Want to know about the old Jedi order? Read the Knights of the old republic comics. Want to read adventures with the OT characters before the sequels? Read the original Marvel comics. Want to know what misadventures C-3P0 and R2D2 got into before ANH? Watch the 80s cartoon. Want to read about the Sith War? Read the Sith War comics. Don't want to know the storylines of some videogame but don't own the system/game or don't want to bother with mastering a game just for its story? Watch "movies" of the cutscenes/FMV, most major games are edited into movie form, some are even done very well including major plot points that aren't cutscenes so the story makes sense, obviously the story of all of them are not great but some are itneresting enough. Want to know more about the Clone Wars? There's also plenty of books/comics about it. So yeah don't read everything but everytime you get into the SW mood you can check out something that interests you and you can just enjoy that entire "series" or story arc without having to read more. Or just enjoy stand alone comics/books.

There's plenty of great SW material to bother with the crap or to care about its canonicity, most of it won't ever be contradicted by the new films anyway. If you want to read canon stuff then it's really easy to jump in now, there's only about 4 novels, a few comics and the two TV shows. You can easily binge all the canon stuff right now. What about in the future? Use the same logic as above and read the stuff that interests you, I also take this approach with DC/Marvel stuff, I can't possibly read all the Batman comics either but there's plenty of great stuff to enjoy as story arcs instead of re-watching BTAS for the 100th time. You're missing out on good stuff. Don't be such a completist, which I am one myself, but I learned to not let it get in the way. Heck if you don't want to read most are available in audiobook form.

Mark Hamill reports to Ireland for set of Episode VIII. It looks like filming is already under way 10 months after wrapping up Episode VII.

From the sounds of things Luke's role in Episode 7 will be small while Han Solo gets the most screentime of the older cast.

So I'm guessing Episode 8 will give Luke much more focus which would be cool.

So there should be no doubt Rey is the main character of the new trilogy. She's now right in the center while Finn is probably the "Han Solo" type role of the movie. Rey is also likely related to Luke and Leia.

It'll be interesting to see Star Wars with a female lead. She's giving me Katniss vibes from The Hunter Games though.

So you've said this literally 20 times in this thread, at least.

While we're making assumptions based on the poster, I'm guessing Rey and Kylo are Han and Leia's kids. (based off of the now non-canon Jaina and Jacen.) Apparently JJ Abrams said Ren isn't Kylo's last name.

Yeah, Kylo is a member of a group called The Knights of Ren. So "Ren" is the new "Darth".

I read somewhere that Kylo is Han and Leia's kid, Rey is an orphan and Luke's pupil.

Also heard that Finn is not his real name, but a nickname given to him by Rey based on his stormtrooper designation (FN).

Rey has to be related to the Skywalker family to continue the lineage. The force is strong with her.
