I'm willing to bet half the movie is designed as a nostalgia trip.
That's not Tatooine.

I also feel a little bit bad for Lucas, because he did start the whole thing pretty much, and when you hear him talk anymore you can tell he's way more bitter than he lets on. Lots of his "fans" took the Prequels as some kind of personal betrayal, and the general hyperbole about how bad they supposedly are has accelerated beyond nonsense at this point yet only shows signs of accelerating once the new movies start rolling out. Like, okay, nothing that's ever existed in all of human history is as bad as some people say the Prequels are. People begged for 20+ years for more Star Wars movies, the guy made them, and people attacked him for not getting inside every fan's head and magically knowing how the stories he came up with were "supposed" to go. I mean the guy's entire fanbase rabidly turned on him because his Star Wars fanfiction was different from theirs, only his actually got put on screen. That's a shame, and it's always bugged me.

I mean I've heard enough stories about what comes out of the guy's mouth to know that he's kind of a wacko, albeit a creative one. He has lots of Big Ideas, and like most people, it's better when other people weren't afraid to whittle some of the dead wood off of them before they're finished and presented to the public. So while I can defend him I'm not a fanatical devotee. I just kind of feel bad for him; people asked him to do something, he spent years saying no, finally gave in, gave them what they asked for, and then they turned on him with needlessly excessive force for not meeting arbitrary expectations. It has to hurt to read/hear people saying, day after day, year after year, "Pretty much everyone is better at that thing you created than you are." I wanna have a beer with him and give him a hug or something.
How come you always nail everythingN
Teach me, sensei.

It's Jakku. Yep, a new planet for the universe. Probably plenty more to come.

Might as well be, for all the Episode IV shots they're recycling.

Oh look, the Millennium Falcon fighting TIE Fighters... we've never seen that before. Or a Death Star.

Sad, that. I don't give a f*ck if you hate his prequels, this is still his baby. Now get ready for a "greatest hits" with Episode 7, complete with back-to-back throwback lines of Episodes IV and V primarily. I bet there will even be a scene for fanboy service where Han definitively fires on someone first.
And do you think the prequels were their own movies unlike episode 7 which the prequels were more original?

I like the prequels, they were Star Wars movies in there own right, people just want Star Wars movies that were in line with the originals, and it took many many years to get to that point.

I think the main problem with the prequels is that in the years since Return of the Jedi, everyone sort of mentally made up their own fanfiction for what happened in the prequels. And then were disappointed when that's not how it happened.

The one thing that hurt the prequels were it already had an endpoint it was supposed to meet. So we knew pretty much how episode 3 had to end to get to 4 while 7-9 do not have as much restrictions. Sure there is the expanded universe which might play into some fans perceptions of what SHOULD happen, but its future is not officially written like 1-3's endpoint was. There is inspiration like the Solo twins that probably leaked into the movie series and in expectations but Abrams and co. do not have to meet a certain point like prequels.

I have only followed this thread closely and if I come to this conclusion I bet someone on this thread already has...
Spoiler:
Rey is the Solo twin sister and Kylo Ren is her twin brother that falls victim to the dark side. He misunderstands the heroic sacrifice of his grandfather Darth Vadar and took up his cause. Perhaps under the direction of the one who created Vadar Plagueis. Just a theory.

The big problem with the prequels is that sure the duel fights and visuals look cool but the problem was the writing which kind of stunk, Lucas should had hired a proper writer for them like he did for episodes 5 and 6.

This one at least has 3 good writers.

The overall writing, maybe. The dialog, abso-f*cking-lutely. Every word that came out of every single non-Ewan McGregor person's mouth for three straight movies was horrible. Some of the worst line delivery I've ever seen or heard.

Like they picked the WORST take for every single shot; like, what actually made it into theaters was a reel of all the Absolute Worst Dialog Takes, spliced into the actual movies as a joke, some kind of gag reel to be passed around among the actors for a laugh, and maybe screened for the crew at the wrap party, but then it accidentally made it to theaters somehow. That, I can believe. I could, if given evidence, even believe that every dialog scene was in fact done in only one take. I can NOT believe, or rather, find it rather hard to believe, that there are even worse takes floating around out there of those people talking.

"'I am not at all particularly fond of sand...' Damn it, George, I f*cked up, can we do it again?" Well, with Hayden, maybe. I can believe he gets worse. I mean he kind of did, continuously, for nearly six agonizing hours of stilted, wooden delivery.

The stories, to me, were fine. They're just better on Mute, is all, but then you lose the music, so you have some tough decisions to make.

I predict some of Han's old lines will be re-used in this movie:

"I've got a bad feeling about this."

"Whose scruffy looking?"

I also half expect him to make a, "Back in my day" or "I'm getting too old for this" type of line somewhere in the movie, with the younger characters making fun of his age.

Han's entire role in this movie will be a nostalgia trip, just you watch.

I thought a ton of the dialogue in Jedi was deplorable.

I read in a recent Mark Hamill interview that, We can expect an Empire Strikes Back like twist in The Force Awakens.

I knew we were getting a Sullustian or two in the film, but nice to finally see more female pilots (there were a couple in Jedi, but just in the background, not in any cockpit shots).

Yeah, instead of a Sullustan as a co-pilot, good to see some diversity in X-Wing pilots.

I'm willing to bet he's talking about Kylo Ren and Rey being related and being related to the Skywalkers.
