3D movies are terrible, I want to watch this movie especially the first time with no distractions. Wearing goggles on my head just to see some poorly done 3D is not my idea of a good movie experience.

I have no idea why this 3D nonsense hasn't died off yet.

Partly China.

The US and China have an arrangement where China gets to have something like 34 Hollywood-made films each year, but ONLY 3D and Imax films. Thus, there's a huge push for more and more movies to have one, the other, or both, because it means huge studio profits, on account of there are a bazillion Chinese people who will go to see the movies.

I read an interesting article on Cracked the other day that explained in-depth how China is manipulating its symbiotic relationship with Hollywood to take over the film industry. Pretty interesting stuff.

3D might be a fun way to see it a second time. But definitely not for the first.

I've never watched a 3D movie at home either, I don't have a 3D TV, so even if you watch it in theaters you forget the experience afterward anyway.

The only redeeming factor of "Freddy's Dead" was that the 3D actually was pretty snazzy in the theater.

Otherwise yeah, no.

Is it no different than the 50s and 80s when they had this fad? or do you think they should make holographic 3D like in Back to the Future 2?

Also, found this really cool short interview with Boyega talking about his plans for opening night.

George Lucas has seen Star Wars: The Force Awakens, and he really likes it.

I'm gonna see it in 3D as well. I see films in 3D first, then 2D if I see them again.

My tickets for opening night are for 3D. The reason for this is they just put in nice recliners in the 3D imax one. Also they have assigned seating for those as well. The last time I went to an opening night for Star wars I got stuck in the first row on the far left. My neck hurt like a bitch after that.

I've also got tickets for Friday afternoon with some guys from work. We are just seeing it in normal 2D.

Must not see many animated 3d features. Works wonders there.

I honestly think if it's used to tell the story and not as a gimmick it's fine.

I'm used to watching movies in 3D, I think it offers a better movie experience, since it's a lot more immersive.

Massive blockbusters and animated films look fantastic in 3D. Any other kind of film then I don't bother and stick to 2D.

Precisely. It's no longer about stuff flying out of the screen and into your face. It's about immersion. I can only imagine what 4D feels like.

George Lucas has seen The Force Awakens and says. "I think the fans are going to love it" and "It’s very much the kind of movie they’ve been looking for."

Jar Jar Binks and Ewoks are officially NOT in The Force Awakens - http://abcnews.go.com/Entertainment/...ry?id=35621783

While it makes sense that not a lot the characters from the prequels will appear in the new movies, I guess some still wanted to be absolutely sure that Jar Jar would also not be one of them. Same goes for Ewoks.

Lets hope he isn't saying what James Cameron said about Terminator Genisys.

Those quotes seem... specifically worded.

We know they're going hard on the OT parallels and imagery and aren't officially calling it "Episode VII" in the marketing. I'm very possibly overthinking it, but this quote has me wondering how much they're downplaying/ignoring what the prequels established.
