, so much vitriol. Also- Indigo, WHERE did you get that shirt? I WANT ONE!! Love Silverstein, and that's my favorite book of his. Perfect blend of humor and fandom.

My gear-grind- This past week. Started getting sick on Monday, by the middle of the work-day I was feeling kind of cruddy. Next day, it got worse. Stomach was so upset that I was nauseous all day, plus having " Montezuma's revenge", and had to run to the restroom several times to take care of both. Yet they didn't send me home, and I ended up staying an hour LATE. Finally felt better on Wednesday- which was, fortunately, also my day off. Thursday and Friday, I again had to stay late, due to the ridiculous amount of customers this week- it was Spring Break, of course.

Came from Redbubble.com, got it for Christmas. And likewise, I still have my old copy of that book and the two that followed it (plus The Giving Tree). They just don't make "kid's books" the way they used to.

Grind... I really quite dislike being scheduled on alone at work to tend to the second floor by myself - and I really HATE it when it's done on a frigging weekend. Oh and my lead/supervisor however is off today? Well lucky him! How does he rate... weekends should come with the job title. My direct manager didn't seem to be around either...

3/20 - How 'uneducated' Microsoft Word, of all programs, is sometimes.

"I peek my head out of the kitchen." It underlines "peek" with a green squiggle and suggests it's "verb confusion." Really? What else could I have possibly meant? I changed it (temporarily) with "peak" and it stopped taking issue with it. o.O Wow.

Edit: And now there is snow coming down, after last week we'd hit 79° and end of this week is supposed to be low 70s again. >.>

3/21 - Looking at something on eBay that I've eyed for a little bit, sorta wishing it would show up a little cheaper and was just poking around online trying to find where it was originally sold from (no luck) to see what the original price was and if instead I might save money elsewhere if still available... I go back to it and, since the seller had two and sold one previously -- after these had sat there on eBay a while -- I click on the link to see when the previous one had sold and it immediately has two sales listed with "0 available" at the top. Huh?? Literally someone just grabbed the second one like a minute before I clicked that. Arg!

Ah well... I guess maybe it's just life saying "Nah, you're right, you can find it cheaper later. (And/or you don't really need that anyway.)" Kinda like that shirt though darn it.

Word is not that good at correcting grammar in my experience. It’s easy to confuse with non-linear edits too I find; like if you fix a problem half way through a paragraph, Word sometimes won’t acknowledge that it’s fixed. It also has a zero tolerance policy for repeated words, even when they are justified.

There's a cat at my place in Waco that really wants to come in my house. Now, that shouldn't be a problem because he's extremely friendly.
The trouble is that I'm not sure if he's someone's pet. If he's not, then he used to be. And it bugs me that if he is someone's pet, they're letting out a cat that has a bad eye. His right eye is cloudy and he's missing a good chunk of an ear on the same time. His claws are naturally worn by scratching.

He only comes around in the evening, and I only see him if I happen to catch him. I've seen him three times now, and the third time, he tried to get inside the house. If I'm sure he doesn't have any diseases or fleas, it wouldn't be bad. The first time I saw him, he was a little damp from the rain we had just had.

My dad and I are going to put a collar on him with a note attached the next time we see him, and we'll wait and see if he responds. If not, we're taking him to the vet to get checked out and if he's healthy, we're telling the housing dept. that we have a third cat.

Worst of all, this was not what we intended to do, but the cat adopted us first this time. We were only supposed to stick with the two we brought with us (who we hand raised).

These are the things that happen when you've worked with rescue for two years, you live in a neighborhood with lots of ferals and strays, and you make friends with one in a little over a month.

Not sure if I'd call that a grind. Good on you! Almost all of my cats have been rescues. Only one was ever bought and that was my first kitty. She was a gift (or a bribe depending on your POV) from my step-dud. Our latest WAS someones pet once because she was far too affectionate and came inside far too easily to have been otherwise. But whether she was lost or abandoned is anyone's guess. Possibly dumped, givEen her extreme abandonment issues.

My grind today is twofold. Nature rearing it's evil head with a vengeance for one, and the second part being having a damn gaggle of managers doing a training course or some crap in our store today, getting in everyones way and basically making our jobs more difficult as we tried to maneuver around them.

The learning curve for some of those things isn't so much a curve but a wall.

Aw. Yeah, I bet he probably lost a home at some point. We've taken in two strays in the past, both chose us, and similarly the second one pretty much demanded that she be part of our family. She'd already been hanging out a while and cautiously made friends with us and then there was that one night she was crying at the window to come in and that pretty much sealed it.

Even though we had a rather hyper dog at the time that she wasn't too sure about, she was determined enough to live with us that she decided to be brave and try to deal with him. They ended up as good friends.

I still have a little flip phone. A smartphone hasn't held much interest for me.

Since I've had my current phone for some years now, I'd been considering upgrading to one at some point since Virgin Mobile got a Samsung in my price range that I could use my balance with them to buy it... but I'd have to give up my old cheap $20/per 3 months plan and they now took away their $25/month plan I was considering dealing with, leaving the lowest choice as $30/month (sure only $5 more but that adds up), so... Meh. Changing plans and taking my cost from $20 to $90 isn't exactly appealing for something I really wouldn't be using nearly as much as other people anyhow.

My introduction to smartphone-like things as been through work, as the little gadget we use for various things basically looks like one and functions very similar. I'm getting the hang of it, but it was a pain at first, esp when buttons or the on-screen keyboard are so small and it has taken a while trying to master hitting the right damn button.

At last year's NYCC I got caught in a downpour and my poor smart phone paid the price. So I was sans smartphone for a 11 days while I waited for it to be repaired.

Never again.
The loss of the bus tracking app alone made getting around the city a nightmare.

The grind comes from the fact that I'm not quite in a position to take him in -- or if I even can. It depends on if he actually has a home or not.

I can't go back - and I don't mean they're so great you'll wonder how you lived without one. I mean the part of my brain that knew how to text from a keypad died. Last time I tried it, it took me ten minutes to send a sentence.

So- update of yesterday's grind. Couldn't get in to get my eye exam until after 5 PM today, and the glasses won't be ready until the 8th. I need to see NOW! Didn't have the broken pair with me or I could have tried to get them fixed or at least replace the frames in the meantime. But the real bad news was that my prescription changed A LOT. So I have to work tomorrow and I STILL can't see. Dunno what I'm going to do for tomorrow, because I won't be able to deal with the issue until after work.
