The only thing that's practical effects in The Force Awakens are some of the creatures, but there are still some that are CGI.

I don't like when directors try to hype there movies by saying we shot a lot of things practically, when in reality, a big chunk of there movies have CGI, but the CGI is only for the things that are impossible to do practically.

Things like spaceships, Out Space, anything that is not possible to do physically has to be CGI

If you watch the BTS stuff on the blu-ray, you will noticed they used a lot of green screen on the huge sets they build.

The fact still remains getting a Krang puppet would be super cheap aganst building a CG Krang; but it then locks you into decisions on the day, a burden no PD production can afford.

I can't really hold PD accountable for the Bad CG, Jungle book, Warcraft, Assassins creed, even StarWars all suffered from disastrous looking CG characters.
Ha -- I think I forgot who I was talking to for a second.

I think we're on the same page. And you're right that the state of the business as a whole is responsible, and it's a shame that things have gotten to this point. I'd love to see a clever mix of practical and CGI in a TMNT movie, but it's just as well that we're getting this with... this... because it's not like they have much of a vision or a plan in the first place. In this case, it looks as cheap and crummy as it deserves to.

They really don't. Not when they're done right. If anything, practical effects should (and could) be better than ever now.

Agreed. The first movie's CGI looked more realistic because they were better suited to the darker environments/movie palette. This one's going all-out cartoony so naturally the models look more awkward when compared to everything else.

But weren't the aliens a mix of practical and CG in TFA?

That's not the point; they BUILT sets. Or they utilized things that were there. Force Awakens made a galaxy far, far away feel more realistic than TMNT is making New York feel. That's a serious problem.

No one's expecting them to use practical effects for space battles, but they BUILT ships and scale models of them. They BUILT the bases and the creatures.

Turtles is set in a real life environment, and they still use more CGI than a movie like Star Wars.

Krang really looks like Fred Wolf Krang, hope his voice actor brings over the role of this little blobby brain just like Pat Fraley did(at least a little close to it lol) And i hope for a little interaction between Shredder and Krang.

Krang looks awesome and it is also awesome that the robot body is based on the 1987 series since it wears sunglasses and underwear. The IDW krang robot of Krang is just a general robot nothing special about it , but the one with the sunglasses red underwear and red shoes from the 1987 cartoon that i created for krang is iconic. Does it wear red underwear too?

CGI's an amazing tool, but it's not an amazing movie. The problem here is that the CGI stands out so much because every big shot in this film is CGI.

Let's be real here, guys, a practical Krang really wouldn't work. Maybe add some CGI elements, but it'd come across as cheesy.

But why can't they build a set? Why does the Technodrome have to be so CGI-esque? And I don't mean the wide-shots, that's fine, I mean go to a studio, and create a set for the final battle.

If you're going to make a movie that utilizes CGI characters, you need to have a realistic background. In the first movie, they literally had a set for the lair and most of the lair fight was completely CGI. Same with the roof fight.

If you have the ability to use practical effects, use them.
it's really to bad they didn't go with the original idea of using practical suits enhanced with cgi. I personally think computer effects are best used as a tool to compliment practical effects or when the shot just can't be achieved practically at all. It always sales it much better when you can tell what's on screen has actual weight and presence in the world. There's just more believability to what you're seeing that way. It also seems like it helps an actors performance come across probably because they can see what they should be reacting to instead of having to imagine what it'll look like when it all comes together. I think it's just easier to accept incredible unrealistic things are possible when it's as realistic as you can make it. One of the saddest things about modern cinema to me is how quickly some filmmakers decide to computer animate everything rather than try to figure out a way to actually make it look alive. That's one of the reasons I feel like the first movie holds up so well. It went out of its way to try to convince you mutants can exist in our real world. They felt real because they were real and not just animated in on top of something else. At the end of the day the bay turtles are always just going to be cartoons

I'm trying my hardest but I can't think of one example in the last 10 years where practical effects in a movie come off unconvincing

The problem with the CGI in these movies is that instead of utilizing the advantages it has, they've instead milked it 'til it's breaking point by making the effects as loud and bombastic as possible, which ends up making it stand out like a sore thumb, super cartoony and lacks weight.

You're just saying that because a two-ton seven-foot mutant Turtle cannonballed into the side of a military transport vehicle.

Does it really rhyme if one word ends with an "s" and the other one doesn't?

"When we all say he sucks...
Well Michael Bay Don't Give two ****s."

Fixed.

EDIT: Oh look, 2016th post.

TMNT2 was awesome.
Somehow I don't believe it, if you look at the rest of the twitter posts, Most if it is in another language, and some English thrown in.

So bad its good? Will the fanbase think the same?

I am curious about how the latest X-Men film will affect TMNT 2. There was room enough for two superheroes movies in two weeks with Guardians of the Galaxy and both were successful. I am not expecting X-Men to be as successful as GotG, but you never know if it will impact TMNT 2.
