While im not completely on board with some of things in this film eg. the origin story, but i hardly doubt this will bomb. There is too much hype with casuals, and children, which, if were honest is the target auduence.

Granted I don't have hard numbers to hand but the views of the relevant trailers and tv spots on youtube seem much less than what the equivalent videos were last time. Same with the amount of comments. In fact there's a strange lack of commentary altogether. Last time the internet was abuzz with articles and tons of discussion on the previous movie. Granted most of it was negative but still people were talking and there was enough defense of the approach, they were engaged. Compared to now, it's more positive but there's just less conversation. I definitely think a lot of fans who were put off by the last movie could lured back with the Fred Wolf characters but I do think TMNT '14 had people who weren't necessarily fans curious to check it out as it looked at the start it was been given the same treatment as a lot of other popular comic book movies. I think they are less inclined to come back on the idea of characters they don't care about or treating the whole thing like a complete joke. I'm not saying it's going to bomb but I wouldn't put money on it doing significantly better than last time, in fact there's more than an outside chance it could do slightly less. |

I give it a D- It was worth watching once but I have the same gripes a lot of people on here have. Gross looking turtles, no real plot or character development, not enough time spent with the turtles, bad reshoots and shoehorned in Asian Shredder, Splinter learning ninjutsu from a book written in Japanese, no backstory into the ooze, missed opportunity with the opening animation, turtles not showing up until 20 min into the movie, horrible bad guy plan, Sacks killing his own man just to explain his plan to the turtles, Shredder walking away after kicking Raphs ass without making sure he was dead or stopping April from freeing the other turtles, Shredder's over the top armor, no Hamato Yoshi or Japanese tie in whatsoever, no connection between Splinter and Shredder, April's dumbass dad setting himself on fire, Splinter and the turtles praising April for throwing them down a sewer, not enough hand to hand fight scenes, Shredder's magic blades... need I go on?
However, as goofy as it was, there are some moments that are sort of guilty pleasures because I grew up with the 80s show and 90s movies. I enjoyed the actors who played the turtles and it seemed those were the only actors who actually did their homework on the characters. I enjoy William Fichtner even though I know his character doesn't belong in a turtles movie. He was still fun. Will Arnett was good. I like the snow chase, even though it went on a little too long. Of course, the elevator scene (which is the only scene that made it feel like a ninja turtles movie). And the Splinter/ Shredder fight. (Just wish that fight had been predicated by an actual conflict between the two.) So please know, that no matter what I think of the movie, I will give honest criticism and feedback and it's not geared by either "blind love for everything turtles" or "f**k this series" cynicism. I'm going in with no expectations. Completely neutral.

Mostly because of the pointed brows and 'beard', as well as the rest of his shape. It might look brainy on first glance, but then... What's up with his right eye, I don't know. I had a feeling that Utroms would be terrifying in a live action form, no matter which design is used. Come to think of it, Krang is probably the only PD films character that should look terrifying by default. The turtles are inexcusable.

I actually think Krang looks pretty badass. (IN THE STILLS!) Watching him swing around in the clips looks kind of goofy, but if you took that design and just had him sitting there delivering sinister dialogue, it could be pretty effective. I guess we'll know when we see it. I'm really hoping for some Krang and Shredder one on one. Since they are obviously going for a more 80s show take, you can't neglect that aspect. That was always one of my favorite parts of the show, when I was a kid, hearing Shredder and Krang argue, fight, and insult each other.

As much as I'd love that, I'm not holding onto much hope for Shredder and Krang antics. I'm not so sure Michael Bay is the type of guy who would have the Old Married Couple dynamic between them.
I'm also not holding on to much hope for some stiller scenes where we can really enjoy Krang in all his glory. In the stills, he looks a lot like a really fancy practical effect. For some reason, the teeth are the most unsettling...they look like one would need stitches and many, many shots in the case of getting bitten by him. Which would be painful enough. Honestly, he looks like a deep sea monstrosity that got washed up on the beach after a tsunami.

the technodrome has been worked on since the superbowl spot. If you look at the new "goal" spot, it has more square plates, and it has the fred wolf esque arms.
