TC thinks the transformers brand is not dependent on the transformers movie, and TMNT is exactly the same.

He's absolutely wrong, but still...

The "blame the fans" tactic is nothing new for these guys, but the degree of it, combined with the timing, is... interesting. I wonder if there are some conversations with Paramount going on? Because this isn't just the fans.
I seriously DOUBT there is paramount conversation going on.

Why?

There is NO NEED to put effort into anything anymore.

Geek things are big. they don't need to pander to the audience that kept them alive. all they have to do is find something that clicks with the casual audience. when that fails to stop clicking, they'll wait, reboot it, and find something that clicks with the next casual audience, or move on to the next thing to ruin.

When people reward them for something that clearly looks like ****, as that first movie did, it says to the studio, 'we can keep doing this and we don't even have to try!' or worse yet, they think they ARE trying and think people like what they are being given.

It's a no win situation at this point.

I think the days of the studio caring what die hard fans want are over.

If they where really smart, or cared, they would have started changing things BEFORE fans told them what was wrong. turtles being aliens, april and casey showcase movie. white shredder...no martial arts in a movie with ninja in it's title.

between the last year of turtles being drug through the mud (my biggest fear of corporate buyout) and this year of seeing ghostbusters ruined (with the added sexism fun)....I honestly can't take it anymore. too much heartache with my favorite franchises...and too much frustration seeing people willing to except so drastic a change from the norm just because it has a turtles ip on it.

what's left to ruin?
cheetara with angelina jolie?
Knight Rider with Justin Beiber and Selina Gomez as the voice of KITT?
uhmm..
star trek?

No, wait, already did that one...
sigh.

Now now Son, things will get better. Just keep wasting your pathetic life away in a forum section for a movie that you hate spreading misery, cynicism and negativity on a daily basis lol. Life has a beautiful way of delivering back.

Soooo.. maybe stay away from the coffin for now huh? Wait until the third film comes out. So we can all sit back and watch you squirm and whine and snark and hate for another year

What third film? There's no third film. They said third film?

A movie makes half it's budget back, and you think they want to spin the wheel again?

oy vey, His belt doesn't go through all the loops, this one...

Third "film," you say? There wasn't even a second. Or a first. At least, not in this decade. Arguably even the last.

There will be a third. Maybe slightly or heavily redesigned. But TMNT will be back with a new movie sooner than later.

If it costs 5$ to buy the ingredients to make a cake, then another 5$ to let people know I have a cake for sale, but I only sell $2.50 worth of cake...

Most likely, I won't be making, another cake.

Ah going by your figures. If you spent $10.00 altogethor , to turn a profit you must make a minimum of $50.00. If all you came up with was $2.50 I don't need to tell you not to try again.
This movie hasn't reached it's minimum to warrant a third movie, other than the studio paying out their own pockets to fund it? But then it would just be a more expensive yet cheaper looking TMNT III

If the movie makes a little more than $135M world wide, is there a possibility they could still do a 3rd movie.

Warcraft isn't doing well in America but it is doing really well worldwide (especially in China) and most likely their will be a sequel.

Both movies could be relied on a worldwide gross not domestic gross to get a sequel/3rd movie.

Possible at that point. China does look at our movie reviews, so there isn't enough negativity to drive them away. But it may kill hype opening g week.

I highly doubt that. This film, as of right now, is a bonafide flop.

It has made a total of $122 million worldwide on a $135 million budget...not including all of the marketing (including Super Bowl Ads, which cost between $3 million to $4 million per ad) and so forth.

By the second week, it went down to #4.

Central Intelligence (with The Rock & Kevin Hart...both are big Box Office Stars) and Finding Dory will knock it down even more.

And after that, Independence Day 2.

Unless it gets some Huge Bounce of Box Office out of the stratosphere from China or such, it's a definitive bomb.

Take for example this film:
http://www.boxofficemojo.com/movies/?id=robocop2013.htm

The studio behind that film wanted it to become a franchise. Poor box office stopped it. Just like this one will stop.

And by the looks of it, Out of the Shadows won't even make the amount of money (worldwide) that the Robocop 2014 'Flop/Disappointment' made.

More than likely, Paramount will put those resources into the various Transformer spin-offs (Bumblebee, etc.) that they are making instead of TMNT.

The bottom line. I guarantee that the studio was looking for this flick to get around $300 million to $400 million worldwide AT LEAST, in order to be profitable (thus fitting in all of the recognizable characters ala Bebop, Rocksteady, Krang) as well as a July/Summer release date. Instead, it's a Massive Box Office Disappointment.

Dafuq?

No, to turn a profit, I need to make $10.01. The analogy is production costs, plus advertising costs. So far it's made back half of production domestically.

And it still doesn't matter, 'cause even if you factor in overseas, the BO that's published is far from the studios take.

no turd move...third move...no chance.

If this was Fox, I'd agree. If it was WB, then yep, I'd get the argument.

But this is Paramount/PD. Cheapest of the cheap. They don't do high risk low reward.

Hmm I was always taught to make at lest twice your budget. Making the exact amount is the same as a failure. You didn't lose anything but you gained nothing either.

Yep, 3rd movie coming. Studios and stockholders love losing money:

Viacom shares are down more than 1.8% in pre-market trading this morning after it told Wall Street that disappointing box office sales for Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows and a delay in closing “a significant SVOD agreement” will hurt its financial results for the quarter ending this month.

Aaaand one more time:

I want this property to do well as much as anyone. But these movies fall far below its potential. If they hadn't botched the 2014 movie so completely, so thoroughly, it could be in such a different place right now. Because 2014 was a golden opportunity -- they had that once-in-a-lifetime perfect moment between hitting peak adult nostalgia and high interest from the kids -- and they messed it up on every conceivable level. They made a garbage movie. They didn't care. And with that, there goes the general public's goodwill.
