If they somehow ever have any thought about a third, it wouldn't surprise me if they just let it sit and cool off for a while. Maybe one day find new, talented writers and not rush getting a script, that way it might be better writing, hm?

As if spoiled rich boy film makers know anything about such patience and quality...

Approaching, nothing! This thing's crossed the 200 million mark, and still climbing! Personally, I think this thing'll do about 230-240 million, and that will be about it. Of course, there is still merchandise and DVD/Bluray/and digital profits that will help offset the cost of this movie. Prospects are looking good for a soft reboot without Bay and From.

Which means when take into account the massive advertising they did, that means this movie is just now starting to make a profit.

If they want to do a 3rd, more power to them, but the numbers certainly don't support or give any reason to do so.

It hasn't started making a profit yet. It still needs to make over $100 million more just to break even.

It varies from movie to movie based on the marketing budget and exchange rates but the general rule of thumb is that the movie's box office must reach 2.5x its production budget to break even. That would be $337.5 million for this movie.

Again being devil's advocate, but people predicting 'it's done it's done it's done' are ignoring merchandise and dvd/blu-ray/digital sales. Also, this is Paramount/Viacom's ONLY big superhero franchise (leaving the toy-based stuff out), they aren't just going to let it sink without trying again, no matter how much they risk losing.

It is, and the first movie did manage to turn a profit. Out of the Shadows wasn't a soft reboot, it was a sequel. A sequel that discarded elements of the first one, but a sequel nonetheless. I fear we will get an actual soft reboot, wither any of us want it or not... ugh...

Even if they did, that would be pretty meaningless. Harvey Weinstein announced a sequel to the Imagi film right away and that never happened. Announcing sequels or trilogies in the middle of a film's release is a big, well-known way to drum up audience confidence.

Though it's more than a little telling that with this movie, this time, they know it's not even worth the charade.

Yes, but Platinum Dunes has a lot more muscle and money to flex. If they say they're doing a sequel, they're doing a damn sequel.
