I want Disney to just be creative like Zootopia, Wreck it Ralph, do a story that hasn't been adapted in the Disney animation studios films and also Pixar than another cashgrab remake.
In the end, its really up to us, the consumers.

If we stop paying Disney to go and watch Live Action remakes, they will stop making them.

Its that simple.

Shredder and Krang combined had the biggest arsenal of any villains in all of the cartoons.

What’s kind of terrible about this is that Hollywood people and the media will likely praise Disney for their casting choice when really they don’t care. It’s all about publicity and LOADS OF CASH masquerading as some bold and brave push for social change and acceptance!!!:

Lets hope she delivers a good performance, thats what matters the most.

Although since the recent remakes have been so shot-for-shot (Aladdin and Lion King come to mind), I was really expecting Disney to pick someone who looked more like the Ariel we know.

There's really nothing wrong with them being diverse in casting this girl as Ariel. Brandy played the titular character in the Disney made-for-TV movie Rogers & Hammerstein's Cinderella back in 1997. The following year, Toni Braxton made history as the first African-American woman to play Belle in Beauty and the Beast on Broadway. Alan Menken and Tim Rice even added a song for her in the musical that has been with the show ever since she was involved with it. Right now in the Broadway production of Frozen, Kristoff is being portrayed by an African-American actor named Jelani Alladin. He got hate-mail at first, but then fans warmed up to him.

I am still not over Black Achilles. It must be remember these are European stories. If we start casting White People in the roles of stories and heroes from tales from Africa, I would still be upset about it. But that's just me.

Sure that's dumb. Saying that Ariel as she was portrayed in the previous Disney movie featuring the character is white and pointing out the reasons for casting a black actress now doesn't make you a racist.

But then if you're saying that Ariel can't or shoudn't be anything other white or that representation and diversity is bad thing well you might have a problem with race.

I'm old enough to remember these same arguments with Tuvok. These are fictional characters portraying a fictional species. They can be any colour you want.

I'm waiting for the first movie to change a historically black character into a white one... and what the backlash will be. Because what can it be, if it's just about character?

This seems appropriate about now...

It's weird how many female white redheads keep getting changed into black characters. It's happened so many times in recent years that it's no longer just a coincidence. TMNT fandom is no stranger to this, with April changed into black in the most recent series, plus numerous past attempts to reinterpret her as black that didn't always come to be, for example Ciro revealed in his new TMNT 2012 art book that he originally intended April to be black.

I'm a liberal minded person but even I have to step back and look at how frequently this keeps happening to redhead characters. Redheads are today most associated with people from Celtic nations, particularly Ireland which has the highest percentage. The Irish are a historically oppressed people. Is this just a modern continuation of that in action?

thank you .

wish more people would realize how stupid race changing is.

As for Tuvok....

The thing with tuvok was also stupid. that was an ORIGINAL character. who's to say their can't be black vulcans, just because we've never seen one before? not like we had seen all that many up to that point....

smh.

Now, the Albino Klingon, that's a different story..and should never have happened.

You mean like Laurence Olivier playing Othello? Or Mena Suvari in Stuck who played a character based on an actual real life African American woman.

C'mon you know whitewashing in Hollywood happens a lot, right. Like way more than the other way it just doesn't get the same level of coverage and thus doesn't generate the same level of outrage. I know you specially used black since there's less than explicit the examples of that in modern Hollywood but from Johnny Depp playing Tonto to Jake Gylenhal playing the Prince of Persia it is way more prevalent.

That's not even counting Biblical films which take place in Middle Eastern countries but still cast white people or American-ized versions of foreign works or adaptions of manga or anime which do the same even when the characters explicitly supposed to look Japanese.

As for it being about the character while that's true in most cases you know this is done as an equaliser for people that are traditionally underrepresented in Hollywood that it defeats the purpose going the other way. However in principal sure unless a character's story is specifically tied to their race there's nothing to stop them race bending. Black Panther can't be white but then there's nothing to say you can't have a Terry from Spawn be white..oh wait they kinda did that too.

Even then there's people that will disengenuously use any argument to promote whitewashing. Remember the contortions people had to defend William Fichtner as the Shredder. "Oh a white guy can't play Shredder now? That's reverse racism" or "maybe he was adopted by a family in Japan" and the like.

At the time lots of people said it and I'm not looking forward to similar strained quasi scientific explanations of why mer-people people can't have dark skin.

I knew in my gut what kind of video that would be when I clicked it but I hoped against hope it would be a whimsical video showing what black celebrities would look like if they were white or something. I suppose I only have myself to blame when my recommendations are filled with alt right weirdos talking about white genocide.
