Rise of the TMNT toy speculation/discussion/announcement thread

Yuck, this stinks!

For one of my least incarnations of the Turtles and yet...I still gotta find them all! Haha

I would love to add Wrestling Leo, Bullhop and Shredder into my Rise collection...but I don't know how much I'm willing to spend on these. Luckily Wrestling Leo doesn't seem to be all that much...but the Bullhop and Shredder are nasty prices right now.

Hopefully one of you out there manages to dig up some news or possibly find these in a discount store down the road. I'll be mad at myself if I pass on these and they indeed don't turn up anywhere.

Walmart over here rearranged the toy section completely. There is no longer a space for TMNT toys at all.

'Rise' Turtles sign officially gone from the toy aisle of my Walmart. No figures, but there had been so few last time anyhow; didn't spot any in clearance.

On the other hand, they've stocked a 'Rise' Valentine's gift set. And spotted a Valentine's card set at Walgreen's. At this point I wasn't expecting those to exist.

I found a Shredder in Walmart today. I also saw Wrestler Mikey and Bullhop, but I just decided to get one today.

The dim hope that they will release these next time the TMNT rewards club comes back, but looking forward to what playmates has in store for Toy Fair in a month...

Honestly, this line seems so dead. It'll be interesting to see what Playmates has in store at Toy Fair this year and they seem to be distancing themselves from the Rise series and putting more of an emphasis on the classics line. I'm sure they're just posting filler content on their social media, but part of me feels like Playmates is just going to be reissuing all of their old figures from the 87 line once again and that'll be the main line all over again.

Who knows though. I wish we could find out how bad the Rise toys sold, but seeing them all over the place at places like Big Lots and having no shelf space at Target/Wal-Mart says all you need to know.

I really can't wait to see how awkward the interview with Pixel Dan is going to be. The 2019 Toy Fair one was so cringing because of what a lifeless robot Pat Linden is.

Found Shredder and Wrestling Mikey at one of the very few Walmarts that still have these toys around here. They had 4 Mikeys and 2 Shredders but no Bullhop....I got one of each. They weren't fully stocked but I also saw a few Battle Shells. This was in Germantown Wisconsin.

Playmates has already said that there won't be any new Rise figures in 2020, and that they'll be focusing on classic TMNT. Not sure what that means exactly, yet, but I really hope it isn't just the same reissues.

I ended up buying a Hypno-Potamus from Wal-Mart's website at retail price because of not being able to find it anywhere and because I already was buying something there. All the other figures that I need were either out-of-stock/in-store only or a secondary seller going for that markup.

I'm still looking for Hypno-Potamus in the UK - I've only seen him on eBay so far - and the only toy from the latest wave I've seen in the shops so far is Donatello's Bug Buster bike.

Last year a saw a few cases of Rise figures there were like 12 figure refresher cases, and not the 24-32 fig cases they did early for Rise and the 2012 show. I'd guess what you saw is probably leftover from one of those smaller cases.

The line isn't quite dead. Around here, roughly 1 in 5 Walmarts still have space for it. And a few of the Target stores sneaked in a single peg for them as well. And as long as stores will still order, Playmates is going to continue to produce them.


I just hope that they wise up and start producing the new figures in larger numbers. The current situation won't be too bad if they start sending out cases with 2/3 new figures and just a few older ones mixed in. But if they continue to ship cases with mostly old figures, the new ones are going to be a real challenge to find.

Speaking of which, on the back of the new figure’s cards, it shows a picture of two Donatello figures I’ve never seen (a “spider shell” Don, and one that looks to have an action feature) and lists them as rare. Thought that was interesting. Not really sure what to do with it.

Spider Shell and Jetpack variants, unfortunately it's the same basic Donnie figure from wave 1.
