HILLSIDE, NJ, August 31, 2021 — NECA is thrilled to announce an incredible addition to its bestselling line of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles action figures! In partnership with award-winning creator Stan Sakai, NECA has licensed world-famous comic book series Usagi Yojimbo, starring Miyamoto Usagi, who appeared many times in the classic and modern TMNT cartoon series as well as the comic books.

Set in Edo-era Japan, Sakai’s continuing story of the rabbit r?nin (masterless samurai) has drawn praise for its faithful reflection of many aspects of traditional Japanese culture. I just Googled "Fred Wolf Usagi Yojimbo" and the first three photos of him look angry like this, so it makes sense... Maybe he'll have an extra head though.

What are the implications of this partnership?

Are we getting more Usagi variants from the toon line? Space Usagi? Samurai Armor Usagi? Usagi in robes?

Are we getting Gen, and other Usagi characters from the comic book universe? Netflix Usagi?

I'm absolutely thrilled with this announcement. 2022 will be my best TMNT year yet with the Neutrinos and Usagi. My absolute favorite characters!

My take is that it's just in connection to the TMNT cartoon line, so it would just be basic Usagi.

I'll be curious to see if they end up putting a TMNT logo on the box when he finally sees release.

Originally I thought they just wanted the rights to Usagi for TMNT, but it does say they licensed the comic series. That would be great for the fans.

Yay! I'm so thrilled and excited for this!

Usagi was one of my faves back in the day, and I also really enjoyed him in the 2003 and 2012 cartoons. I'm a huge fan of the comics, and have been for a long time. It would be awesome if NECA did a Usagi line, but I think thats pushing it. I don't know if they would sell enough for NECA.

i'm wondering if he'll come with a giant egg or urn? heck it wouldn't surprise me if lotus blossom was announced and they were a two pack.

I hope this means we're getting a full line of characters from the book. But I'm very happy either way.

I think it also bodes well fur Super7's version, as I had though it was delayed because of the upcoming cartoon. Obviously that isn't stopping NECA from doing a more classically styled Usagi.

Here's the part that is a bit confusing... according to Stan Sakai's FB page:

NECA will be bringing out an Usagi figure based loosely upon the 90's TMNT cartoon design!

Is the Usagi figure depicted above an amalgamation of toon and comic book elements?
