Small update in new article

https://comicbook.com/movies/news/tm...te-seth-rogen/

Movie has a title but it isn't being revealed yet. The entire film is now storyboarded in animatic form and they are working on getting it together.

This is while he is promoting the new Sausage Party Foodtopia on Amazon Prime. anyone watched it?

Things are coming along. The new animated show is hitting real soon and they are just about ready to begin final animation on the sequel film.

Saw MM for the second time today. I enjoyed it a little more than the first time.

Only 2 major complaints...the art style goes too far with the doodle look. Sometimes it looks really cool and comic-ish but I think a lot of it looks very messy. I hope they tone it down for the second one.

Again I mentioned it before...wish the Pizza van was used for something cool and actually launched pizza or anything. It’s my favorite Turtle Van in awhile and it’s just used to drive up the parking garage before getting destroyed.

I’m sure the sequel will just introduce a different one since this one had no significant role or attachment to them.

Don's vision better improve so he stops wearing the glasses. Also given they won't start voice recording for awhile, hopefully Don's VA finally goes through puberty and his voice cracks because he still sounds too young. Granted in the Tales cartoon his voice is a bit better than the movie, so hopefully...he ages a b it in real life.

What if April started using the salad bar and traded in her moped for a bicycle in between movies? Hey, may she can even go to the optician with Donnie?

After seeing Mutant Mayhem again, I actually did enjoy it more than my first viewing. I'd probably be more excited for the sequel if they didn't decide to make the Tales series into fan fiction as I did find it fun. I'm curious which direction they're planning to take this sequel though. Shredder seems to be a part of it of course so that part does sound interesting.

Rewatched it for the first time last night. It was pretty much the same as I recalled, which was, "kind of decent, but mostly pretty to look at." Seriously, the art and score are still top notch. My main issue is that the things it does well, it only does well enough. And the things I don’t like just aren’t my cup of tea.

I like the general spirit of the story. It's mostly a Splinter story of letting loose of his grip on his boys. I don't mind that take. The turtles themselves have pretty much no arc going on of their own, which kinda sucks. They're growing up and want to be more independent, sure, but it's a pretty vague notion that's never really developed outside of getting themselves into trouble when they break the rules.

Unlike the turtles, April has become a character that's been changed up so much with every passing incarnation she no longer has a definitive identity anymore. She's been a mother figure, a sister figure, a friend, a love interest, a ninja, a scientist, a TV reporter, super-powered, no powers, younger, older, tall, short... She's pretty much a nexus to do whatever you want with her at this point - you just gotta hope whatever you do with her keeps her likable. This? This I don't like. She appears very uninterested in the turtles beyond what they can do for her. I really don't get a sense that this April wants to even hang out with the turtles.

And if you're going to have a turtle crush on her, I'd prefer it be based on something she does, not just the "love on first sight" trope. And since the post-credit scene fast forwards through her entire perspective on how she feels about Leo romantically, this whole thing just falls flat for me.

The ending leaves this series in a weird place that doesn't feel TMNT to me. The turtles going to school and being socially accepted while bunking up with all their classic villains is too much for me. What a bizarre place to end the first chapter.

But overall, it's a decent time. I don't get bored watching it, which is saying something at my age. I think the art and music does most of the heavy lifting. I hope the sequel has some more martial-arts focused action scenes, less fighting a rampaging monster kind of thing.

That running milk gag is still awful, though...

At the least, the cartoon which follows the movie pretty much ignores them being in school and the mutants all pretty much move out of the lair and live somewhere else in the sewers and basically become the Mighty Mutanimals.

If anything the cartoon is doing some heavy lifting for the movie, the Turtles are also better characterized.

This is basically exactly how I feel about it.

I know I should HATE it, but it’s a well-made enough movie that I just don’t get worked up over it.

And ya know, it could be ten times worse and it shouldn’t matter because there is no excuse for Paramount to not be on a schedule of giving us both a baby/animated version every X years and a “real” PG-13 trilogy or something in between.

Marvel/Sony does it with Spider-Man.

Blegh, just cancel it. They really need 4 years to make some more crap like that? I feel like the turnaround on Mutant Mayhem (from pre-production to release) wasn't even 1 year.

Why almost a year though? Surely it's been written and had some amount of production happening for a while. That's like a major change kind of time frame? (After all, the Rise movie did that when it likely had to change due to the show cancelation.)

Hope they don't care about the VAs sounding like "real teenagers!"™ anymore.

I can guarantee you they have an edict from Rogen to not show any school stuff because he wants to save that for the second movie. "We get to see the Turtles in high school, dude!" was clearly the thing that excited him the most about the whole first movie, so of course he'll want to be the one to do it "first" in the second movie.

It's very disappointing. 2037 or "not at all" would have been much better.

Meh....I vote cancel it. At that point, won't the VAs for the turtles be "out of their teens" by the time in comes out?

2027? What on earth would take them double the time? They have the animation, designs, voice actors, down. All they needed was the story.

On a good note it gives the kid who voices Donatello time to let his voice finally crack.

And they didn't even have that in the first one -- why change now?

Kind of a small plus though, to me. I hated that most of their push for the first film wasn't about the characters... nah, it was about the cast, both who they were packing into the credits and that they casted "actual teenagers," as if that was more important than selling fans on the Turtles and the story.

Movies that get pushed back tend to wind up being cancelled altogether. It's Hollywood's new way of "softening" failure as opposed to the blunt, upfront "cancelled" or "shelved" or "canned".

Not saying that is necessarily the secret fate of Mutant Mayhem, but something to consider.

-waits patiently for the outburst of insanity that this talking point can't possibly be the case, similar to how some melted down when I suggested that assets and scripts are repurposed for projects frequently-
