Its almost as if people are hyped up to think this was some sort of, "climatic ending" to the Archie series when in reality it really wasn't.
I think 1) any chance to revisit this series is fun and 2) the multiple promises got us excited.

That has 0 reason to do with it at all. Not even slightly.
Its ok, i guess not everyone knows all the details. However since chris allan collaborated on some tales issues, which were b/w, its moot anyway i guess.

Ah, missed opportunities...

What's the old saying? . . . "He who hesitates is lost."

I'm not entirely sure Forever War was ever intended to end the Archie series either. I just figured it might be a big arc where some more major characters got killed off... like Future Donatello.

Not being smarmy but Murph's an easy guy to contact. It's easy enough to ask the man any question regarding his work and he usually will take the time to respond.

Not only that, but he posted about TFW on his old blog as well.

And now I'm reading a great lot of 2009 posts .
It's like watching the making of History.

Still would be cool to see what an official Forever War would be someday. We have two Image conclusions, two Forever War conclusions would be fun too. I don't mind alternate takes.

On the plus side, for Chris Allan he'd be getting paid twice, so that'd be good. On the minus side, Chris Allan would then be tied up doing Forever War again for a year+ and wouldn't be able to do the new issues of TMNTA he's presently drawing.

I have zero interest in an “official” Forever War.

With Image, the first one only had a little involvement from Fosco and Carlson. Of course everyone was happy to see them team and do new issues together for IDW.

With TFW, it’s already been drawn by Allan and was written with the max amount of involvement from Murphy anyone is ever going to get. There’s no point. If anything, it’d be cool for IDW to just print what Turtles Club did, however that would work.

Seriously. We already got the best version of that story that we could have possibly gotten, even better than what it probably would have been if it had come out on schedule. Why would anyone ever want a lesser version? Just because it has a publisher saying it's "official?"

There's a TMNT Entity article that's relevent to that situation:

Yeah, I think we’re of the same mind when it comes to headcanon vs. what is “official”.

It certainly would be interesting if we could peek through the multiverse and see an alternate history where Forever War was published in 1996. Same for the 2009 black and white version that also never happened. But I don’t see how anyone can argue that this isn’t the best case scenario, considering Turtles Club is keeping it going into #80 and beyond.

Speaking of which, the official vs. unofficial argument kinda falls apart when you consider the fact that Chris Allan’s short that IDW published for the 40th anniversary is just a straight up prequel for #80.

Life is too short to worry about that kind of stuff; just enjoy what you enjoy, to hell what anyone else thinks.

Yeah, that’s how I am. I just get angry at people on the other side of the issue crying about stuff being “uNoFfIcIaL”.

Ok. Whatever. How about you tell me your critique of the actual content of these books? Oh that’s right… they didn’t actually read any of them lol

Given we were actually working with the ACTUAL scripts for the first couple of issues of the 1996 Forever War to start out with and within the existing cover artwork for the subsequent issues had a very general idea of where Murphy was going with stuff, I'm actually way more interested in what the 2009 version would have been like. He was going to throw everything from before into the trash (which, according to him, no longer existed in his mind or anywhere else anyway) and completely start from scratch. I suspect he WOULD have used the 2009 version to make it more of The Big Final TMNTA Story™ vs. the original which was always going to be just another TMNTA arc.
