Even if so, we JUST got that realized Batman at the end of Begins. And then it's time for the big Joker movie.

So dumb. The end of Dark Knight made me just think, "Oh OK, Batman just has to be extra careful now when fighting criminals because now the cops are gunning for him for a while, too, until this blows over or gets cleared up." In no way at all did I take that ending to mean, "Batman is retiring, effective immediately." I was also fairly sure we'd even pick up not long after Dark Knight with a mostly-fine Two Face still around because that "Death" was pathetic.

The Dark Knight Rises has a ton of flaws, but only really on a fundamental level. Like, this is NOT the movie we should be getting this early. We're missing one, maybe two Batman movies in the middle here.

But I really like what they did with Bane and Talia, overall. I'd have much preferred Bane to actually take venom and it be a supersteroid, though, of course.

I think maybe Heath's passing had a big thing to do with that. I was expecting somewhere in TDKR to mention that Joker was what had led to Harvey's death. At least something like 'because of that madman' if they were too afraid to mention the name out of respect for Heath or whatever. And naturally we got no mention or scene of whatever the hell Joker would have been doing when all the criminals got released.

I'm assuming Batman retired because it was easier than running from the cops all the time and there no major costumed freaks terrorizing the city after the Joker was locked up. Sure in the comics that never stopped him, but I guess they wanted to play this super-grounded where a 'real-life' Batman could only function for a few years before being caught, killed or too many injuries and age would catch up to him. I mean the combination of constantly getting beat up as well as the workout regimen to stay in Batman shape would wear and tear the body over the years, which is a fact that the comics choose to either ignore, or not have it affect him to the point where he really would have to hang up the cape.

This movie and the Black Panther sequels were examples of when an actor playing a character dying in real life hijack the following movies when recasting would have solved everything.

It was especially lame how they portrayed him as all beat up and crippled, despite there being no sign of this in TDK. Even if they just had some exposition in there how he fought crime while running from the police for like 5 years after TDK and has been retired for the last 3 years, that would have went a long way.

But no, nothing.

Yeah, that’s what I was saying. One year is basically nothing. Batman has the largest rogues gallery of any hero. You can only reasonably imagine he encountered a small handful of them in that one year span. And that’s half the fun of the Nolanverse; imagining how the other villains would be portrayed in this “realistic” world.

Then yeah, big Joker movie and he retires lol.

I have only seen it once but wasn‘t the part about him being crippled super inconsequential? That one doctor tells him that his knee is completely ****ed up, then he just puts on some high tech prosthesis thing and he is fine. Later, they just re-locate his vertebrae after Bane breaks his spine? That‘s not how it works lol

Yes, the initial issue is handwaved away. Then the broken back is too easily overcome.

I know the movies aren’t ever going to be the comics, and they were wrapping up a trilogy but… Bane breaking his back should be the climax of a movie, then there should be a whole movie of Bruce healing while someone else (doesn’t necessarily have to be Jean-Paul Valley) functions as Batman, then a whole movie dedicated to the triumphant return.

True, though I'd say it's handled even WORSE in the actual comics. When Bane broke his back, suddenly they revealed Bruce's long-time psychiatrist was a mutant (??!) who touches his back and magically heals it (and plus... wait, if she could do that all along then why...?). And then he's 100% after jumping off a rooftop to shake off any cobwebs.

If they were to go that route, I'd have made the FAKE "Robin" cop guy into Jason Todd and up the prick/hot-head factor. Set him up in The Dark Knight Rises Part 1 and weave him into the story but bring him into Bruce's trust much sooner. Then at the end of The Dark Knight Rises Part 1 Bane breaks Bruce's back, and he hands the mantle over to Jason Todd. Then in The Dark Knight Rises Part 2 we get Jason Todd as Batman (but basically Arkham Knight from the game in all but name) making mincemeat out of Bane and then going on to upgrade the suit, etc., until he finally starts killing criminals. Throughout all of this is a big passage of time, so months are going by of rehab for Bruce and he's making progress. When he learns that Jason is killing people as Batman, maybe he gives himself a bunch of physical aids (like the shin/knee thing in the real Dark Knight Rises movie, but for his back) and suits back up. And then at the conclusion we get the big KnightsEnd, Batman vs. Batman fight.

So yeah, no Jean Paul Valley but we could still hit pretty much the same beats.

I'm not interested in this kind of movies and I think the last Marvel movie I whatched was the first Avengers.. but this looks good and full of interesting stuff. Peter being depressed and alienated, the Punisher, the Hand (still no Daredevil?), Bruce Banner studying some strange mutation in Peter's body and maybe Jean Grey! This movie is dense! Of all the Spider-Man movies with Tom Holland this is the first one that actually looks like a Spider-Man movie to me. Also, nice homage to the Amazing Fantasy cover.

Cautiously optimistic. I’m just so burned on MCU Spider-Man and while there does seem to be some positive changes, I just can’t get hyped until I see it. Admittedly it’s hard not to compare to the Raimi films which just feels like a different breed of movie. Prefer one or the other, but they’re just made so differently and I’m not sure this type of Spider-Man movie will deliver what I’m looking for.

But again, cautiously optimistic. I’m pretty sure I’ll like this more than the last two, which is something.

How much you want to bet him studying that leads Bruce Banner to become the Savage Hulk?

Also... that IS The Hand, right? It has to be. And the REAL Hand from Daredevil season 2, not the FAKE diverse group of white thugs calling themselves The Hand in Defenders.

I’m 100% here for any 90’s era Spidey material. Mostly bc we’ve had so many Spidey movies at this point. It’s time for something fresh. But also this version of Spidey already sort of went off the rails in a sense so it’s a good opportunity. Doesn’t hurt that I’m nostalgic for the 90s. Clone Saga issues were some of my earliest comics.

I mean they’ve already taken inspiration from One More Day and Brand New Day so they clearly aren’t shy about controversial comic storylines.

So yes, bring on Jackal. Let’s see an actual Scarlet Spider. And 10 years from now I want you to tell me the Peter I’ve been following for 5 years is a clone. Let’s get nuts.

I'm interested in this one.

But it looks like a "fun Spider-Man romp" as opposed to any "definitive lynchpin movie". Which is fine.

My thoughts exactly. MCU Spidey is due for something like this after part 1 was him as Ironman Jr., part 2 was an abysmal story set in Europe and part 3 was a cataclysmic multiverse event movie. The last one promised a more “back to basics” reset and it looks like they’re delivering.

Although him being hung up on MJ and Ned 4 years later feels tedious. I was hoping they wouldn’t get any more than a short scene in this one, but it looks like they’re a major plot point.

Why?

She's boring as f*ck.

The only memorable thing she ever does is die. And we've seen that already.

The other memorable thing was she got knocked up the Green Goblin, which they kept canon for nearly 20 years before undoing it and made her boring again.

The only reason she worked in Garfield's movies was because they lifted all her character traits from Bendis' Ultimate MJ.

And Spider-Gwen only ever got over in the animated movies, and hasn't sustained a book consistently in half a decade.
