I actually watched the first episode of Tales yesterday online. I wasn't digging it. And it further reminded me why I don't like the turtles in this universe. They're incompetent losers who don't seem to have much fighting experience. Yeah they're teens but they're also ninjas. These turtles are just pathetic cowards who luck out.

It's been confirmed at cinemaCon that Krang will be in this movie as well.

Spoiler:
What are the odds of them revealing Cynthia Utrom was Krang all along?

The "Teenage" should, never, ever come at the cost of the "Ninja." Ever. Or it's a sham.

I a little surprised the Mutant Mayhem sequel is still happening. Putting aside the first little-to-no profit, the fact that they are making a light hearted animated movie which will be heavily based on the '87 show with Shredder as the main antagonist and then...immediately follow that up with a light hearted live action movie that will almost certainly be based on the '87 show (as much as budget will allow) and have Shredder as the main antagonist seems stupid.

I‘m also a bit surprised but according to Deadline it was actually super-profitable with a studio net of more than 200 million because of toy sales.

It's also likely too far into production. But I'm pretty sure this will be the last movie in this universe, given they want to start a new live action trilogy reboot. Unless this movie is super successful for some reason to get a third.

MM was profitable but paramount likely wants a huge mega hit which is why the live action one is happening.

I don't think they'd want two movie franchises going on at the same time. If the sequel does well it'll be interesting if the MM universe continues as a show to differentiate it from the live action movie franchise. I know Tales was a thing and got cancelled but the logic for that animated show was different, more of a complement the movie, while a new show would be the new "main thing". Well just rampant speculation on my part.

Movies get cancelled far into production all the time. Heck, movies get cancelled when they are actually finished...not that I think this will happen with the Mutant Mayhem sequel.

Sure, the movie sold a lot of toys and merchandise but then so did TMNT (2007) which people forget actually did make a decent profit at the box office. It still didn't mean jack when it came to making a sequel, any possibility died when offers to develop a live action feature started coming in. I honestly expected the same thing to happen.

I didn't hate Mutant Mayhem (other than once again removing any aspect of the Yoshi/Saki rivalry from the turtles lore) but it seems redundant to have two movies so close together that will be so similar. Both kiddie movies based heavily on the Fred Wolf show.

Why? How can you even meaningfully tell with Utroms?

Because it would be weird. Hopefully Krang isn't Cynthia Utrom, because then Krang might be female.

Do you guys think with the animated series cancelled that this could be made as a series finale since they know the live action movie will take the priority and that the sequel will likely not do better than MM?

Assuming this movie even takes the show into account.

Nahh, I can’t see a chance in hell of the sequel referencing the show, which is exactly why the show was the way it was.
Imagine if we had gotten an animated series in 2014 to bridge the gap between TMNT’14 and Out of the Shadows.

I don’t think there will be anything significant. Maybe some small stuff. Point Grey Pictures did oversee the show and the tie-in comic.

I didn't mean a finale for the show, but a finale for the MM universe. Like they know they won't get greenlit for a third film and there's no other show to continue any stories, so might as well go out with a bang.
Hell the first movies ending felt rather conclusive already.

Apparently the first movie ends with the thing that was most important to the filmmakers and was what made them (and Rogen) the most excited: the Turtles going to high school. So of course they'll want to actually go into that a little bit before they F off of the property.
