I'm sure Eastman is in heaven, Miller was his biggest hero. I can see Miller doing a short story, maybe inked by Eastman or Laird.

Hey I’ll take it. I’m not gonna pretend Miller is in his prime but it’s still interesting work. Would love to see him collab with Eastman or even Klaus Janson again on a TMNT story.

I’d like to have this cover but if I’m gonnna get one it’ll probably be the Eastman and Laird piece. I’ve always wanted a Frank Miller TMNT cover but it’s Eastman and Laird and I don’t need multiple issues of the same book.

My sentiments exactly. I like his modern style.

Regardless of how anyone feels about it, this is a huge “full circle” moment. Now Jack Kirby and Frank Miller have drawn published TMNT art. Pretty cool.

It's a fine piece, but it would've even better if this drawn 40 years ago. Miller is somebody who's long past his halcyon days of the 80s and his art style started falling off by the 90s. Still, I can't deny that this was a long time coming and in particular Kevin's probably geeking out about one of his heroes drawing his characters.

Now I would be curious on how Miller would draw Shredder since that's a character that seems more in his wheelhouse.

Where's the Archie series in that calculus?

It makes even less sense when you consider that if you were to actually read it like that, you'd miss over half of the entire plot of both Mirage and IDW, since the various miniseries, Tales, and one shots are absolutely not optional, especially with IDW's series.

The Archie series was never considered the "main" TMNT book, that's probably why it's excluded.

Just going off of the canon IDW stuff, they're already beyond 335 comics (roughly).

If you count everything IDW has published (not counting reprints), they just cleared 500 TMNT comics last month. I'm probably forgetting something though.

It sold more than Mirage ever did

Sure but that still doesn't mean it was ever the main book.

That’s kind of like saying The Simpsons was never the main show and only The Tracey Ullman Show counts.

More like saying a picture book based on Disney's Tarzan takes lower priority than the actual Burroughs novels. The picture is arguably more familiar to people but it's not like anyone considers that as making it more important.

So it's based on quality and literary merit?

In that case, we need to throw out much of the Mirage guest-era, most of the Sophie run, and the entire Jason Aaron run.

That was published as "Urban Legends," the math they did is only using books titled TMNT I guess. Except the Dreamwave series because that wasn't the mainline book.

While we're at it, let me just again take the opportunity to point out that the first series of IDW TMNT is NOT "TMNT Volume 5" and IDW Vol. 2 is NOT "TMNT Volume 6."

Because that's nuts.

You're right, they're TMNT volumes 5 and 6.

Is that the first official reference to the current run being a ‘volume 2’? I know it’s been considered that informally but interesting to see it in black and white.

Random thought: they obviously just wanted an excuse to have some big event book this summer and did some dubious math to make that happen. But IDW will have been printing TMNT comics for 15 years this August. Why not just celebrate that?

Because they want it to look like a wider celebration, something related to whole TMNT history in comics, not just IDW.
