Paramount Games are saying this will have more resources allocated to it and that the TMNT and Platinum Games both deserve better than what we got in the last Platinum-TMNT game.

Good to hear. TMNT game by Platinum with a decent budget. This should be pretty damn good.

Their most recent outing - Ninja Gaiden 4 - didn’t live up to the series potential and left me a b it disappointed, but is still a high quality action game the likes we’ve never really seen with TMNT.

Last thing they mentioned was you “play as a tank of a turtle” so the combat will differ in that way from Ninja Gaiden or Bayonetta. I actually don’t mind the sound of that if it leads to a fresh combat system that’s methodical as well as introduces elements of stealth. I don’t need it to be fast I just want it to be deep.

Well call me shocked. Changing hands to save it and still make it happen is not something I'd have willingly put any bets on.

Probably bc older TMNT fans are like battered wives at this point. We have been trained to expect disappointment. We’ve been trained to watch a production begin with “this will take TMNT back to its roots!” only to have it slowly morph into something directionless and confused by the time it reaches the public.

It’ll be a slow transition into accepting that The Last Ronin is ridiculously successful and will pay many dividends for those who have loved this style of TMNT for a long while. It woke up all types of new and lapsed interest in the brand. A whole new potential audience proven and highlighted. They’re gonna keep selling to us. The game is probably the most obvious adaptation so I’m not surprised they kept it going.

I would love for this to be playable by Fall 2027, but I won't hold my breath. Just let PlatinumGames cook and don't hold them to any timelines like Activision did 10 years ago.

Eventually they always will have to because these are room fulls of guys working on it who are clocking on and clocking off and not doing a charity and the bill is getting higher and higher.

This isn't like a passion project guys are doing in their free time for free. Probably sooner or later the plug will be pulled on it and like most recent TMNT games, it'll be "almost there" but still pretty unfinished.

Man, I've been saying that in the fandom since I was like 20.

"One day [TMNT] will get better, you'll see! [TMNT] will stop picking up the belt and beating me!"

But nope, [TMNT] just keeps on beating, every time.

But I think at least a lot people woke up around the 2016 movie. 2016 and Mutant Mayhem were the first times a new big TMNT project wasn't treated as a big religious experience vs. something that is heavily flawed.

Yeah I can see some truth in that. Although the critics did seem to love MM, the box office wasn’t great, so a lot of that praise might just be low expectations or political/cultural virtue signaling after the April “controversy”.

2016 was the first TMNT movie I didn’t see in theaters since I was old enough to go. It was the first one I knew I wouldn’t like. Then I gave MM a chance and left during the third act. Not like I huffed & puffed my way out of the theater, but I just felt it had nothing to offer me and walked out.

But I think it was the combination of Mutant Mayhem’s disappointing return and the redonkulous success of TLR happening simultaneously that finally pushed the boulder up the hill. I’m sure “Rise” played a part as well. Money spoke in multiple places at the right time.

I firmly believe the brand is in a way better place now bc of TLR. I think the alternate timeline without TLR has a very mediocre looking lineup of TMNT adaptations/stories/entertainment over the next decade, whereas as in our reality, us fans of the Mirage TMNT are going to be thrown some pretty great bones occasionally, as we and the brand have always rightly deserved.
