I think that would be even farther behind than a woman president. If anything, a conservative gay might be more likely to win than a democrat one.

In the approach for Obama's presidential run, I jokingly, or not, wondered what the order of least worrisome aspect in the eyes of the American voting public would be. I eventually put them in this order (least to worst).

Are kids allowed in nude beaches in other countries? As far as I know you can't be under 18 in ones in the U.S.

From what I can tell nude beaches really are not worth it. Many people look better with their swimming clothes on, because in real life people are old, ugly or fat or just look like crap. A lot of people just imagine in their minds nude beaches are filled with supermodels or 10/10 women, but from what I can tell that's not the case in real life. You're looking at mostly fat or old people, the two worst kinds of people. Or fat AND old people, which is a double negative!

I can’t say I have any reason not to agree with this as someone looking in because it perfectly sums up the US government currently…

Earlier this week the Mayor of New York Zohran Mamdani put out a public information message asking New Yorkers to avoid putting too much stress on the power grid by setting their air con to 78ºF (25.5 ºC) during the heatwave.

There's nothing particularly unusual about this, and multiple Republican cities, administrations, and states have issued similar requests in the past.

Trump's maga cult immediately took offence at this, and set about posting petulant videos of themselves turning their air con down to the coldest settings, to "own the libs", and prove that they're bad little boys that won't do what mummy asks them to.

It's the ultimate manifestation of the psychopathic right wing "no such thing as society" mentality.

Nobody told them they couldn't turn their air con down to the lowest setting. They weren't bravely rebelling against oppressive laws and regulations. All they were doing was wilfully increasing the risk of power supply outages that would have denied everyone air conditioning, purely because someone from the left asked them not to.

The petulant narcissism of the maga cult wasn't particularly surprising, given that they've proven themselves willing to vote and act against their own rational self-interest over and again, purely to spite other people: the liberals; the gays; the "woke mob" ...

What is astonishing is that people within the Trump administration immediately set about deleting federal guidance on air conditioning use during heatwaves, which suggested setting an indoor temperature of 75ºF - 78ºF during the day.

Instead of admitting that Mamdani was right, and acting in accordance with federal guidelines, they quickly deleted the federal guidelines so that they could pretend that it he'd made some kind of unprecedented intervention that amounts to "communist repression"!

How on earth is it a White House priority to delete their own damned heatwave guidance, purely because someone from the left suggested people go along with it?
