It’s getting a lot of mixed reviews.

I just want it to beat the marvels box office

Well it doesn't really do anything wrong but it really doesn't do anything new, it's just another superhero movie so people aren't interested. Unless you want to see drunk supergirl, which that to me was exactly what I wanted.

See, I'm 100% OK seeing a drunk Supergirl at some point. Often times in a lot of shows I enjoy whether its Star Trek or anything else, sooner or later you get to see this-or-that character drunk, and that's always fun. Now, I'm not sure I'm super into seeing Supergirl as A DRUNK™, but if framed properly with what she has gone through sure, that's fine. But that can't be like the whole thing. If this movie only semi-redeems her as this superheroine who will now "sometimes not drink to save the day," that's not really adding much to Chapter 2 in the Gunnverse. Especially if they're not so much as even throwing audiences a single crumb for Man of Tomorrow in its end/end credits. That's a huge faux pas.

She's not drunk the whole movie but
Spoiler:
she gets poisoned and is also later in a green sun planet, so basically always in some type incapacity that gets her to not have her super powers or move like she's drunk so the villain can have an actual advantage and move the plot

as for more thoughts I can see why some people might not call her heroic, I do think she goes through her arc, though I guess you can point to the final moment which I already spoiler commented on it on the last page which I guess means perhaps she still isn't perfect, but whatever. the villain as generic as he was grew on me, probably should've had some iconic villain for the better. also the little girl could've been someone else to make her more interesting

I think the movie bombing is a couple of reasons, superhero fatigue, no one actually cares about supergirl, movie doesn't try to do something too new, the culture war just doens't care about the movie SJWs don't see enough social justice in the movie to defend it and antiSJWs just keep thinking its some woke movie so they trash it, some people online are still making this about the Snyderverse for some odd reason. But overall I think it's just general audiences dont care and rather see Toy Story 5

There's also people like me who just can't be bothered to pay money for anything anymore. I have no problem waiting 2 months for the HD rip on the illegal streaming websites.

I actually saw Superman in theaters last year. I hadn't bought a movie ticket with real money in so long I forgot how the process went. I didn't even know you could purchase tickets online and then have the guys scan the QR code on your phone. The last time I bought movie tickets they were still the paper movie tickets that they would tear in two after you buy them in the window! When they said they would scan a QR code on my phone it felt like I was in the future!

So this movie is somewhat better than the Superman movie it's a sequel to and much better than the Supergirl movie from the 80's... Though neither is really a high bar to clear...

The first time I was annoyed with this movie was when we had the Krypton/Argo flashbacks and they reminded us of the whole "Kal-El was sent to rule earth as a god emperor and have a harem" thing from the previous one. Like, why? It was the most hated aspect of the previous movie, why keep insisting on it? What's worse is that Zor-El was explicitly aware of it, meaning Kara should be too. I mean, what? Did he really send her to Earth without saying something like "Oh, by the way, Uncle Jor-El sent your cousin there to be their lord and master, he's probably like constantly having women pump out his babies all the time, so expect to be seeing a lot of once-removeds" or what?

Come to think of it.... Kara going to Earth and finding out Kal-El became the world's champion is the equivalent of Raditz arriving on Earth to find out that Goku hasn't conquered it yet and was living alright alongside the humans.

We saw the movie and it was fun. Too many ahh... Fluids for my liking. Didn't need to see Kara puking left and right and sitting on the toilet.

Also ironic how Kara was the one to get the 'go out there and be good' speech while Superman was expected to conquer and make harems.

So apparently this movie really is doing very bad, worse than Shazam 2 and Joker 2 numbers even. This isn't a good look for the second major film in a new universe.

I think Superman 2 will be fine, but other than that, they're in some trouble. The Lanterns show probably won't make much of a blip outside the HBO crowd and Clayface is basically an indie movie. Peacemaker the show is pretty much dead?

They really gotta merge The Batman 2 with Gunn's universe because if they wait another 5+ years to introduce a new Batman that's going to be even worse.

I just have to ask a question here. Is all of this worth jettisoning Cavill? There could have been the soft reboot. But is this better?

Counter-question: Did you think Cavill was that great in the films he was in? I mean, I really enjoyed Batman v Superman (the Director's cut) and the JL Snyder cut but not necessarily because of Cavill. In Man of Steel he was relatively wooden as well.

He's also way too old now, they obviously wanted to cast a young actor as a Superman for the next 10 years. Cavill is heading toward his 50's.

I think the material itself reflected a lot of that "woodness". They Snyder-verse was definitely more aligned for a Batman to be running around in than a Superman.

Why are we talking about how hard Henry Cavill’s dick was?

Damn, Supergirl is getting murdered, The movie isn't bad, comic book movies truly are dead. I think the Superman movie next year is likely to do worse than Superman, even if not a bomb. Let's see how Avengers with RDJ fares but I think it's also likely going to be the least grossing avengers movie.

The DCU seems like it's going to die, and let's face it we're already on Year 2 of their 10 year plan, movies are releasing slowly, and we have no real big plan, those 10 years will pass faster than you think. Creature Commandos was fun but you can't make a universe out of that, PeaceMaker season 2 was inferior to season 1 which is techincally DCEU lmao, yeah. Green Lanterns looks terrible, yeah, this universe is done, and I like it, I really feel for that forum member who was so excited for each episode of peacemaker as they were coming out.

As far as the DCEU, nah, I loved it as much as a DC fan can, but it was dead, it had 16 movies or more and accomplished nothing, all the actors got too old for their roles and lack of direction from WB. At this point bringing it back would just be pointless. DC just missed the boat of the time cape heroes were literally mainstream.

launching a superhero universe today is like having a nu-metal band trying to make it big in the 2010s.

If Superman had been received better I'm sure Supergirl would have seen a big uptick. People didn't want to see a girlboss version of more of the same. Which isn't to say a Supergirl movie wouldn't already be an uphill battle. We've seen with GOOD girlboss movies like Furiosa and Ballerina there seems to be a low ceiling on turnout for these kind of movies. There just is.

What even are the next movies coming after Superman 2 and Clayface? I don't even know. A Brave and the Bold movie? Is that still happening? Remember when Gunn said Blue Beetle 2 was happening? An Authority movie? An Amander Waller movie?! Peacemaker is also dead even if the character shows up somewhere later. What the hell.

And honestly Lanterns should of just been a movie instead of a TV show. They're making a TV show about Green Lantern nobody will watch instead of just making a 2 hour movie out of it. That was a bad call.
