Gunn has been REALLY quiet about it for a while now. I think it might have been quietly taken off the table from him or maybe some behind the scenes politics with The Batman II/III.

Remember when Gunn said Blue Beetle 2 was happening?
I don't think he ever said that. He DID say that the Blue Beetle movie (in addition to being amazing) was part of his new DC Universe and was sort of being coy about you never know when you might see the character again. Peacemaker season 2 was a thought for him to pop up in but it didn't happen.

Quote:
An Authority movie?
Totally cancelled. You can imagine that'd be exactly the kind of movie Gunn would want to be a part of but at some point they realized that only about 2 people would go to see it in the theater.

Quote:
An Amander Waller movie?!
I think it's a show and is still supposedly happening? But maybe not.

Quote:
Peacemaker is also dead even if the character shows up somewhere later. What the hell.
And all the characters from it are now part of Checkmate? But who even cares after that second season. Soooo bad.

Quote:
And honestly Lanterns should of just been a movie instead of a TV show. They're making a TV show about Green Lantern nobody will watch instead of just making a 2 hour movie out of it. That was a bad call.
There could be something to a Green Lantern show vs. a movie, with the "True Detective" approach to make it accessible to the masses at least for a season or so. But it still stinks like even after all these years, DC is still embarrassed about the Ryan Reynolds Green Lantern movie.

As far as I know the next project will be a Jimmy Olson TV show? Euuugh... good luck with that!

Brave and the Bood is still happening just after the reeves one. He doesn’t want two Batman movies going at the same time

He's been pretty open about it being perfectly fine about there being two "Batman movies" at the same time repeatedly over the past few years. Which I actually agree with him about -- there can definitely be room for a "Real" DC Universe Batman next to Reeves' bargain basement squirrel suit nonsense. But something changed at some point. The earlier scuttlebutt was that he was bullied out of doing Brave and the Bold until The Batman II but it is looking a bit more like until he can "prove" himself. Which he has yet to do now. Also that he has been quietly shepherded into being not really in charge of the DCU anymore but just "The Superman Family"... which is pretty terrible if true. That's like the last thing he should be in charge of. I'd actually be interested in seeing how he might approach a Batman movie.

I just saw Supergirl.

Pros:

Alcock, Momoa, and Corenswet are all great as Kara,Lobo, and Supes.

The flashback scenes on Krypton are more interesting at times than the main film even in full Kryptonian dialogue.

Cons:

It feels like a patchwork of scenes stitched together and there's a lack of tension until the last 1/3

The main villain is bland and basically a second rate Mad Max type of character.

The tension of whether Ruthie is going to kill the villain is undercut by what Kara does 5 seconds later after the final battle ends

There is a slightly weird song choice that took me out of the film during the final battle

Lobo is great but has minimal involvement with the main plot.

Misc:

Action is serviceable

Overall: A mediocre film that feels like a mix of Guardians of the Galaxy and Mad Max

6/10

Does anyone know if it's true they doubled down on Superman's parents/Kryptonians in general being evil conquerors?

Milly Alcock is really cute, she's the prettiset live action Supergirl, unsure how this campaign of her being so ugly form screencapping very specific action scenes or when she's in movement so she looks bad. She doesn't normally. Are her teeth perfect? no but they're fine, I'll take them over those sleeve perfect white teeth which hollwood stars so often have and are so disgusting to me.

I was also bummed that Supergirl's outfit is different, her skirt is longer and like I mentioned, the shorts she has underneath are just too damn long, the same length as her skirt, it's really distracting, I mean would short shorts like the ones runners use really have caused such an outrage?
She also never actually wears the supergirl outfit with her trench coat, every scene with the trench coat she is wearing civilian clothes and when she decides to be "supergirl" and fight for what is right she doesn't use the trench coat anymore. This isn't as big of a deal since we did see her the rest of the movie with it, I just find it curious that all the marketing has her like that when she actually doesn't.

There's like 2 throw away lines but if you didn't watch Superman they'd go over your head. It's just like "Kal el will be like a king to them, you could be like him" and but i mean it can be interpreted as well as a superhero, there's a similar line in Man of Steel. it didn't come off as evil conquerors.
It doesn't come off since her father sees it more as her on earth would be doing good theres , so the whole kal el conqueror plot is not understood here without more context. Which everyone agrees was just a bad take, but they're sticking to it if that answers your question.

Yeah, there was a throw-away line of Jor-El sending his son to Earth so he could be a god to them or something like that. I remember the wife and I rolled our eyes because we were hoping that would be abandoned.

Supergirl is estimated to have a $125 million dollar loss:

Man, I did not expect it to do that badly. Paramount buying WB is going to be very interesting now to see what they do.

That's weird since Gen-Z would have grown up during the height of the MCU, which started in 2008 and peaked around 2020. If you were born in the year 2000 you would have been 8-10 years old when Iron Man, Hulk, Captain America, Avengers, etc. all came out, meaning you would have been the prime target audience.

I think older Gen-Z kids were definitely the audience for superhero movies, it's probably the younger ones born around the year 2010 that weren't.

Because they moved on, remember when people would just move on? that's how He-Man, TMNT, and even Power Rangers died off after their fad. Only MCU was a thing for over a decade that kept building upon until it hit its peak and now it's going to take a lot longer for it to recover. and not to MCU fad levels, just current TMNT levels or whatever.
Before you say "but superheroes have been big forever", that's not true and it's different eras of superheroes, i'm specifically talking about MCU cinematic universes, it was a thing and normies moved on, Gen Z grew up, Gen Alpha doesn't care. outside of big names like batman/spider-man you won't see most movies making a lot of money, we'll see how bad things are when Avengers comes out. it'll clearly do big numbers but also undeperform, will it barely reach a billion? That will be a clear sign.

Yeah, Batman and Spider-man really are the only evergreen superheroes. Even Superman has trouble staying relevant as we've seen with his various movies.

I do wonder how the X-men reboot would go. X-men cartoons have already been popular (look at the revival of '97) and the old X-men films have remained popular despite half of them not being very good. I really think X-men done properly would be the one exception.

"Properly" is the key word. Beyond whatever unnecessary race swapping and LGBBQing they do, I think there will be a real temptation to replace WWII/Nazi stuff with American racism stuff from the past and that will be hugely divisive if they go that route.

Oof... 80% drop in its second weekend! Like a rock. It may not even make it to 150 globally.

Maybe they'll say Magneto lost his parents during J6.

Given World War II is now close to 80 years ago, they pretty much have to say Magneto's aging was slowed down. Back in the 90's it made sense for Magneto to be 70 if he was a kid during Nazi germany, but not anymore. He'd have to be over 100+ now.

I've said this before but superheroes work best at the time they were created, they don't work as ever green heroes of every decade, especially in the post 2000s worlds with mass communications.
This is specifically true for heroes like magneto who have very specific events that changing them for a more modern interpretation just messes with the character.
Captain America was a le to fix this rather cleverly by being frozen but others are just worse origina
