Are you sure they have plans for this?

Not saying that it's a 'bad transfer' by any means, but honestly I can barely tell I was watching it in 4k over a 1080p transfer. And I have a badass setup and nerd out for true-hd experiences.

Thanks

If I had to guess, John Fenner was shooting with the lens aperture wide open due to the low-light that Barron wanted, from their camera tests. Wide-open T-stop doesn't give the sharpest image possible.

That, in addition to the grain.

I hate to admit I haven't watched my copy, yet. Ugh. Bad fan here.

This was an awesome post.

And you know, ironically the grain here in this transfer was less of an issue than the overbearing grain in the 1080p transfer.

My photography knowledge only goes as far as what I've waded through to learn for my store listing efforts, but I understand what you've said there and that's a really interesting observation. But observations like yours goes a long way towards explaining HOW you can have MORE actual information on film than on digital yet digital can still look better with clear highlights, etc.

Like, my God try watching TMNT '90 for picture quality and then immediately turn on Top Gun: Maverick in 4k and you find yourself wishing for any TMNT '90 shot to look that good...
