Okay, I'll say it. I was underwhelmed with the Ultimate Visual History book. We still haven't had a really good TMNT coffee table/history book.

We need a Chip Kidd. An established design/publishing professional that's a die-hard fan. Kidd's work with Batman is unmatched, imho. Is that the bat signal in the sky? No, it's the bar set by Chip Kidd for awesomely visual coffee table books.

That is a very eye-catching book, but a bit weighted too heavily to images for a comprehensive history of the series and extremely expensive to acquire these days. What the Ultimate Visual History did was to cram every major iteration of TMNT across all media into one coffee table book when many of those iterations could easily justify their own book of similar size and visual appeal. Batman: Animated was issued at a good time in 1998 when participants were still around, memories were still relatively fresh and pre-production art had not yet been scattered to the four winds. Doing a book about the 1987 Cartoon series, for example, would be more challenging today.

The toys have such a coffee table book, Rad Plastic, although some people complain it is more focused on prototypes and concepts versus released toys. There are also two other books covering similar material ("Collector's Guide to 1988-1998 TMNT Toys: A Beginner's Guide to Collecting" & "TMNT Unofficial Action Figure Guide") and two books focused on TMNT collectibles in general ("Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Collectibles" and "The Official Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Treasury"). All but the last are unlicensed fan books, which tends to limit the amount of art you can include in a book.

The title of the book was The Ultimate Visual History, not The Ultimate Comprehensive History. I would have preferred something a bit too image heavy, as long as the content isn't regurgitated from previous material.

The 1986 Real Ghostbusters cartoon and toyline just had an outstanding official coffee table book released. A lot of content was pulled from collectors. I had several pieces from my collection in it.

Agreed on Rad Plastic. Outstanding. The Varner Studios book is really cool, too.

I'm guessing the book from the documentary crew will have some cool new content and imagery. They've archived a ton of material over the years.

She is confirming that there is a Ultimate History of the FW 1987 cartoon book in the works, in which she is currently helping contribute. It'll cover all seasons. the IDW Saturday Morning comic, the lost episode Apirl's Story and more!

It'll go into details with interviews with David Wise, continuity errors, a master episode order list with the correct viewing order. Literally a dream come true for fans of the original cartoon. It'll go over commercials that featured the designs and anything related to the FW cartoon. The exceptions would be things that are clearly not canon, for example Archie comics only gets two pages since only the original miniseries adapted the cartoon and after the beginning of season 2 it went its own way, same thing with the toyline being its own storyline and having their own books. Video Games also only get a brief mention, mostly only Shredders Revenge since it's the only one that could actually be canon to the cartoon. And of course it also goes over the crossovers (Turtles forever and the 2 2012 ones)

This interview seems to be real and not AI generated, there are comments on this forum from a long time ago which seem to echo what he says about Patti Howeth in this interview and some interview with him was posted in the past.
