Especially since Karai is one of the characters you could play as, it meant they didn't need to limit themselves to the FW series.

IDW Turtles have "no kill rule" is nothing wrong, the problem is they're weakling and disunity.

Shredder's Revenge seems to be centered around the overall FW/Konami Games/movie era, hence Super Shredder being in it and Karai being pretty much based on her Tournament Fighters self.

It's fundamentally wrong. Ninjas kill. And it's supposed to be a book for people above the age of 5.

Yes, but clearly they won't allow that to happen. This also made IDW Splinter's role in story very awkward. His teaching not only failed to help and protect his children, not to mention he also voluntarily sacrificed himself to redeem the murderer who killed his wife.

Eh, it’s just complete nonsense. And it’s not even that they won’t kill, it’s the crybaby aversion to legitimate self-defense. They’re supposed to be at war with the Foot. Take the “Vengeance” arc for example:

Shredder is trying to kill them all. He almost killed Casey, he turned Leo against them and Bebop and Rocksteady smashed Donnie’s shell and nearly killed him. Shredder had also killed them in cold blood before they were reincarnated.

So they’re leading this charge into Foot HQ. All of them have deadly weapons. What the **** did Mikey think was going to happen? Splinter was going to make Shredder apologize and give hugs? He was never going to stop, so Splinter killed him (and to be technical, he willingly committed sepukku and Splinter seconded him).

I guess his even bigger problem was the fact that Splinter took over the Foot, but that was certainly wiser than leaving it to Karai.

Ah I see, that makes sense.

I’m fine with Michelangelo carrying two nunchucks (plus whatever else he can manage), but he should never wield both of them simultaneously while fighting. They’re much more effective if you just use one at a time.

IDW was always hot trash

TMNT Summer Shorts are likely the most fun TMNT media Nickelodeon has put out

Archie is overrated and a terrible take on the characters

Image was never canon to Mirage

Not rage bait, truly hot takes on my end and I can expand on all these as I truly believe them.

I never liked the art nor the origin of reincarnation they gave them. It felt like they were trying too hard to try to make the FW universe "cool" and gritty. Hated it. This was in the beginning way before the whole mutant town fiasco.

I've made my dislike of the 2012 ideas known before. Rise, MM, Nostrils, come on they haven't done much. Summer Shorts were a bit like those Cartoon Network Cartoon Cartoons in the 90s. Some were really awful while others showed great potential. For example Last Ronin is too tryhard, I much preferred the futuristic Batman Beyond like turtles we got in these shorts.

Man I first read this in the mid/late 00s because of the Technodrome forums recommending it so much. I never grew up with it, so no nostalgia. I dislike what origins they gave some of the characters like Ace Duck, Leatherhead, etc. Cuddley the Cowlick just felt too cartoony to me. In general the tone of the comic was all over the place and in many ways felt way sillier than the FW cartoon so when it tried to be a bit more serious I couldn't take it seriously.

Image comic was never intended to be canon so they let them do whatever they wanted in full 90s do big stuff with the characters by maiming them or whatever. Laird clearly didn't want a part of it and ignored it for Volume 4. Leaving many years so that fans could headcanon the stuff they liked if they wanted but without having to acknowledge anything that actually passed in those comics. Never did, never would've.

I think saying you dislike Image, Archie and IDW but love the Summer Shorts might be indicative of a short attention span/tiktok brain.

The only one I’ll take the bait on a little bit is Image. Obviously Peter retconned it in 2001, but you can’t say it was “never canon”. It was literally presented by Mirage as the continued adventures of their TMNT, they just farmed out the creators and publishing to the hot new indie guys.

Peter oversaw and approved every single script. But unfortunately we learned that he ****ing hated it

IDW TMNT has wasted a lot potential and not really using these effectively. If IDW turtles can't remember their past life names, and even Yoshi and Shen have forgotten their child's Japanese name, then what's the point of setting them as Hamato Yoshi's children in their past lives?

Since they can put more effort into writing more background and setting of some of villains(Shredder and Karai) and give them cool things, why can't they give the same treatment to the protagonists?

Yeah, the IDW run absolutely has its problems. I personally think the ongoing took a nosedive around late 2017 and never recovered.

And even though I was a Stan during those first 5-6 years, I get what sdp is saying. The concept of making an “Ultimate” TMNT where you badassify the FW show and soften the Mirage comics into the same version, some of the results are goofy. Also… the art.

For whatever reason, I appreciate it more now, but at the time I thought Duncan’s art was pretty bad and just never said anything. He was technically good but mostly his weird facial expressions and rubbery plastrons made me say wtf often. Then after his 1 year run we got 4 issues of Andy Kuhn. Another great artist except his turtles were big, oafish freaks with ugly faces.

But then after Bates on Krang War, the book mostly settled into the Santolouco era for a long time and ended up establishing the definitive IDW look. He was masterful and always elevated the script. He made even the dumbest concepts look cool. There were some frustrating choices made along the way, but City Fall through #50 was a fun ride. Then it stayed pretty good until Trial of Krang.

It was exciting because it was the first time seeing Mirage characters mixed in with cartoon characters. Remember IDW pre-dated the Nick 2012 show so it was the first time we were seeing it (and even then characters like Krang, and Bebop/Rocksteady showed up earlier), after the 2k3 cartoon was forbidden by Laird to use any old cartoon or Archie characters.

The issue is as the series went on it got bloated with way too many villains and recurring characters. Wouldn't be so bad if they killed some characters off but every time they do that they bring them back to life eventually anyway.

Even prior to the Sophie era there were way too many plotlines that were just stalled or put under the radar when they should be been wrapped up earlier.

Completely agree

Especially with it being as graphic as it is with splinter cutting shredders head off lol. Always seemed a bit silly to me to have a “no kill” rule

I can get past it, and I love the idw comics, but regardless b

They've built IDW Shredder and IDW Karai too much, but it feels like they still don't know how to handle them.

IDW Karai is currently in a state similar to FW Shredder, but she is a boring version.

IDW Shredder now seems like some kind of paranoid, suddenly very care about the fate of all humanity, and can't stop talking about "worms." Because of a demon's "worm fetish," and then he began to feel that he was being used as a pawn by a woman he loved most, which was a huge blow to him.

I’m also not a fan of the comics constantly putting in new turtles. I don’t mind Jenika, but overall I get annoyed when they constantly try and add characters. Leave it as the 4 turtles

I loved Last Ronin, but haven’t read since the new star of Turtles has taken over. Doesn’t interest me personally

You mean Porn actress April O'Neil?
She looks great in that filtered con cosplay she did, but when you actually see her work, you can read this SFW TMNT porn parody review here. She isn't a great April O'Neil, so I'd agree. She is a little on the heavier side, a bit too old but at least she does have an 80s bush that you'd expect FW April to have.
She has done other films not specifically labeled as TMNT parodies where she is basically also interpreting TMNT April O'Neil, but I haven't done a review of those.
