- #12-26 = Season 9, Hob makes his first major play and Shredder finally returns from Limbo.

- #27-41 = Season 10, the end.

Oh, and I guess it's confirmed that Ray isn't the same character as Ray Fillet definitively. And I guess it was kinda nice to see Peter Laird's rejected Krang design.

Thought it was neat that "Ronin" '87 Mike just lost his brothers in a time portal accident rather than in battle. Was definitely a better fit for the universe, and allows things to end on a hopeful note.

Out of all the aborted plots, I'm definitely most disappointed that they didn't get around to that story with the two Rays. It would've been super cool to finally see the "real" Ray Fillet introduced in this universe. (It's also neat that his look was pretty close to his toy, even down to the sharp teeth.)

I corrected that mistake. The Last Ronin and SMA Old Michelangelo are not the same characters

Great, because issue 41 of SMA confirmed it is Mikey from 1987 universe

I will post more thoughts on the stories later, but I thought the main was fun and the backup was intriguing. I enjoyed the hopeful note they went out on. I resent the idea that Last Ronin is to become some multiverse wide canon-event, but like Chaotix said they mixed it up more than enough and made it fit this universe, so it’s cool.

My eulogy for this series:

I remember learning about this series right before my son was born. My wife was in labor for a full 48 hours before she delivered, so I had several hour longs stints of just scrolling while we waited. I was almost completely checked out of TMNT at the time, thought it looked cute and considered grabbing the trade in the future if the 4 issues of the miniseries looked decent enough, but I never did.

Fast Forward about 2 years later, my son is VERY active and learning to talk. With almost zero prodding from me, he LOVES Ninja Turtles (or nonna kreekree as he said back then), mostly because friends and relatives got him plenty of TMNT books and toys, and of course I still had plenty of old stuff to share with him.

I took him in a comic book store for the hell of it while on vacation to let him run around while I browsed. I looked around but didn’t plan on buying anything. We’re on our way out to go meet some people for dinner, and on the bottom row of a big shelf sits TMNT: SMA #11. He starts yelling “Mikey-Angie-Oh!” repeatedly and tries to grab it. I pull it out to look and see it’s part 3 of an arc and tell him we’ll get a different book later, but he is not having it. He starts screaming “Mikey-Angie-Oh!” repeatedly until a fellow shopper chuckles and tells me I have to get it for him now.

So that was my first copy, and that will always be a special issue to me. Not long after that I started collecting IDW again and started posting here after an almost 7 year hiatus. It took me a looong time to really appreciate this series myself, but I read it to my kid almost every month and I know he’ll be sad it’s ending. I do think they told some really fun stories and I respect this series as an alternate post-season 7 option (although clearly some Red Sky type stuff goes down eventually in their timeline).

For the most part, the best issues are when all the Ghostbusters team was on art. I’m hoping SMA can follow in that series’ footsteps and get some minis, specials and crossovers post-finale. I think the thing from the montage that I regret not seeing the most is Karai. I wonder if they would have tied her story into Shredder’s Revenge in some way.

What were everyone’s favorite issues? I’ll just shoutout the Sword of Eddiku trilogy, Usagi Special, and Christmas With Casey.

I still need to post my thoughts on issues 39 and 40, and I’ll get to that eventually; just, Saturday Morning Adventures’ cancellation has kinda got me in a comic funk.
I do want to share my thoughts about the beautiful splash page though.

-Seeing Ray Fillet again would have been good fun, especially with him going against the fake Ray. I love how they took inspiration from his action figure, like they did with Wyrm.

-The fact that we may have missed out on a story of the FW TMNT fighting the Triceratons in a gladiator pit just like the Mirage and 4Kids Turtles really brings me down. I would have loved a 3-part adaptation of that story.

-The same with Kirby, and he’s with Mr. Ogg too, that would have been an insane story.

-Caesar from the Palladium books is one hell of a deep cut reference.

-It appears that Old Hob would have become this universe’s version of Verminator X? At least, that’s the impression I got from the image.

- KARAI!! They were really going to have a story with Karai? She looks just like she did in Shredder’s Revenge too, something we all assumed would be.

- Red Sky April and Casey Jones growing his hair out instantly making him look like an animated version of Elias Koteas.

- Krang in a robot body based on Laird’s production sketches! I still say the iconic man-baby body is better.

- Slash would have come back just in time for Bebop and Rocksteady’s Thanksgiving celebration, thank god!

- Seeing Vernon, Burne and Irma as ninja reminds me that the comic called Irma mysterious for like five months in a row, and now we’ll never find out what the heck they were getting at!

-And of course, Old Man Shredder. I guess he and Old Man Michelangelo were still going at it inbetween Mikey’s search for the other turtles?

It breaks my heart that they obviously have a ton of ideas that could have kept the coming going indefinitely. One less thing to look forward to every month I suppose…

I'll get that one eventually. The Karai one probably hurts the most seeing as she was already referenced in a previous issue.

Read it to my kid tonight. I actually have a ton of nitpicks with the story, but don’t even feel like being negative. I mainly enjoyed seeing Splinter get in on the action and every he had to say about family and sacrifice. And loved “Ah, shaddup!” lol.

The boy is furious the book is canceled. I didn’t tell him that was the end until we finished. He’s used to seeing next months cover right after the final page. I flipped it over and showed him it was just the front cover and they’re not making any more.

He growled angrily and said “that’s disgusting, that’s twerp behavior, I don’t even like ninja turtles anymore”

After I consoled him he said “next time you see them, tell them they shouldn’t stop making Saturday morning adventures”. So I guess he thinks our comic shop produces the books haha.

It was cute. I hope it was a good way to prepare him for life as a TMNT fan and many letdowns it will bring you

I enjoy the tone, it's really funny.
