Cricket is still hugely popular among South Asians.
It was originally bought to them from outside during the British Raj but it really stuck with them, till the point where they will have awesome parties when their team wins, and nasty riots when their team loses

On one hand it leads to exchange of ideas, which is to benefit of the whole humanity.
It also transforms some countries into factories, which ensures that there wouldn't be another global war, because, any big conflict like that will hurt both sides of the war equally. On the other hand, it leads to vanishing of the nations, as we have understood them. Problem is not all cultures are equal: some are more "traditional" (read: aggressive and primitive than the others) and they are threatening to replace those cultures that lead for modern world making globalization possible in the first place. I don't think they will be able to assimilate more advanced cultures completely, at least, until politicians will see some use in more conservative (and brainwashed) population, but they still capable of making some damage. In the end, world is too big and diverse, even in the modern state and complete globalization won't be achieved during our lifetime, I think. |

A lot of people aren't aware and view countries like Italy, Germany, the United Kingdom, Brazil, Spain, Switzerland, Belgium, etc. as being homogeneous/uniform countries; when it's far from being the truth. Even in more homogeneous nations you'll see some regional rivalries, so imagine in more diverse ones. And yeah, cultures and especially societies aren't all equal. There's still a lot of barbaric practices in many parts of the world. People mustn't use the "but it's tradition!" as a cop out. Also, Westerners often are afraid of criticising backwards traditions out from Africa and Asia due to fear of being called ethnocentric or racist(the biggest insult out there these days). |

You know... I live in Lisbon, the capital city of my own country. And, while this city has always had a lot of tourism, it has skyrocketed in the past 10 years to the point where it's becoming more and more like a generic city like many other major ones in Europe where you see a bunch of souvenir shops, overpriced generic chain shops such as "brunch cafés" and "modern beer houses, Thai massage parlours, etc. in the city centre and the main streets in the business district parts of the city. That and a bunch of shady cheap grocery stores, phone shops and barber shops owned by Indians, Bengalis, and Pakistanis which everyone suspects or knows are some facade to hide shady business behind a backdoor.
Meanwhile, traditional Portuguese shops and other neighbourhood shops that were ran by local families have been closing down due to the pandemic and also tourists inflating the prices and rents of the city. I went to the Czech Republic two years ago and Prague had nearly the same exact issues as Lisbon. You visit the city centre and the areas nearby and it's full of similar generic shops as well. They also have sold lots of apartments and houses to rich foreigners from Russia and USA. Both Portugal and Czechia have a massive housing crisis where locals cannot afford houses with their wages. Meanwhile, foreign immigrants from richer countries who call themselves "expats", because they consider themselves too important and superior to be considered immigrants, buy a lot of property. How is this kind of globalisation positive? If I go to Alfama nowadays, one of the most traditional neighbourhoods in Lisbon... all I see are wealthier foreigners living there and a bunch of those shops I mentioned above plus TAPAS restaurants, which aren't even a Portuguese thing! |

Man, how much has changed since this thread was created. I truly do support the idea of Globalism.
Nationalism is the cause of so many problems, especially when its based on Racial Characteristics, whether its White Nationalism, Jewish Nationalism, Arab Nationalism etc. All the stuff about Remigration and making Europe White Again is making a comeback, but it can be stopped. I think the Nationalism vs Globalism debate will truly define the future generations. And from it looks like, I think the Younger people will support a Global Identity.

Of course, there are legitimate arguments of country's not having the infrastructure to support more immigrants. But when its about keeping Europe White, Keeping Israel Jewish, or keeping Saudi Arabia Arab, it crosses the line into evil.

It‘s probably what he was going for but I think this has been going on for long enough.

...but I do wonder why was Vegita-san, an American guy, commenting on how Europe should be demographically-wise. What is it to him? And coming from an American, it's even more head scratching. USA is the most multi-cultural and multi-ethnic Western country in the world alongside Brazil. Whenever I see white supremacists/nationalists/wtv. from countries like USA, Brazil, Canada, etc. I genuinely laugh |
