DC Comics's TMNT

With the very real possibility of this happening, let's throw out some possible revisions to the TMNT lore, here are my suggestions:
  • The Foot is a splinter faction of the League of Assassins.
  • The Utroms had a role to play in Kamandi's future.
  • The Triceratons caused Krypton's destruction.
  • Mr. Ogg is part of Mxyzptlk and Bat-Mite's species.
  • Green Mantle is a weird prototype Green Lantern like Scott's ring was.
  • Silver Sentry is a Tamaranean or some crap.
  • Casey Jones used to work for Sportsmaster.
  • Batman once sought guidance from the Ninja Tribunal.
  • Savanti Romero used to screw with the Legion of Superheroes.
  • Doctor Dome provided the research to help turn Victor Stone into Cyborg.
  • Baxter Stockman used to be part of Intergang.

So on and so forth, got any others?

This is why I hope that if DC ever gets TMNT, they don't merge the characters with DC characters. What they did before with the TMNT simply visiting Gotham city, but otherwise keeping all the characters unrelated, is what should be done.

Well, me neither. I agree, it would be lame if they try to fuse TMNT lore to the broader DC universe. What I am saying is that, well, if TMNT just ends up being DC it's hard to not see that happening.

Realistically it'll probably be handled like the previous Batman crossover comics. The Turtles will simply exist in NY and occasionally crossover to Gotham City or meet other DC superheroes. But all their characters won't have anything to do with one another.

We've already seen this multiple times:

- IDW's 3 Batman crossover comics
- Nick 2012 and B:TAS crossover

- Injustice 2 videogame which had the TMNT as DLC
-Batman vs TMNT animated movie

Granted in some of these the Turtles went through "another dimension" to get to the DC world, so that will be the only thing that would be dropped.

Leatherhead ends up in Arkham after being mistaken for Killer Croc.

Mongul invades the Battle Nexus and takes it over.

Sportsmaster is Casey’s uncle/Cousin Sid’s dad.

Honeycutt was a Kryptonian and SAL was an early Brainiac prototype.

The New Gods were all created by Kirby’s magic pencil.

Rat King and Ratcatcher are brothers.

Complete Carnage was created by Klarion.

Hun uses venom.

Lord Go-Komodo created Man-Bat.

The mutagen that mutated the turtles was a by-product of kryptonite.

Casey’s farmhouse is in Happy Harbor instead of Northampton.

If DC ever did get TMNT, I'm pretty confident it would end up as one of their many "Out of Continuity" lines, either in Vertigo or not. But I really don't think it would be anything other than a standalone, with maybe a 4 issue miniseries somewhere about if the turtles were in the DC universe.

And the TMNT - Marvel crossover looks more distant now since any time since the 1980s when E & L turned down Marvel's publishing offer and Marvel declined to publish the Adventures series.

Well, look how Jim Lee's Wildstorm characters were integrated into DC continuity.
What worked, what didn't?
Because the TMNT would face those same potential issues.

In one sense, it'd be a little bit exciting. It'd be something new, at least. Though I'm sure it'd only be a matter of time before it would become an ongoing series of things like, "When do we get the NEW origin of Beebop?" "When do we see the new version of KRANG?" and "When do we see the NEW origin of Mutagen Man?" and so on, all of that crap. But at least the DC Universe layer on top of things could recontextualize all of that stuff in wild ways.

Is there any indication Paramount would yank the TMNT license from IDW to give to DC?

Not really, the most we have is that things are going a bit poorly for IDW and they may fold soon, as well as DC's tradition of eating up comic book IPs. So admittedly, Paramount may not view TMNT as primarily a comic book thing, but that may not stop DC from simply asking them for it when this thing goes through.

It wouldn't be Paramount would be giving the TMNT license to DC... it'd be Paramount yanking it from IDW and giving it to itself. But probably no time soon. Sooner or later, though, the people spending the money are going to realize they're letting a third party take all of the pieces of pie unnecessarily when they can just roll TMNT out as a comic in their own division specifically dedicated to comic book publication. It's inevitable.

I haven’t read anything Absolute, but I know a little about it via cultural osmosis. Maybe something like Dream Studios’ TMNT: Illusions?

Not necessarily. Half of Dynamite's line is Gargoyles and other Disney books that Marvel could easily start a new imprint for. DC does usually play things a bit closer to the chest though.
