Back when my sister was in high school, like 15 or so years ago, I came out here to Arlington Heights, IL where I now live, but not then, the summer festival came in time for July 4th and Styx was performing.
If I were to go to a concert, I would love to see the following: KMFDM Rob Zombie Gravity Kills Fear Factory Marilyn Manson Slip Knot |

So, I literally went to my first Linkin Park concert last night. One of the greatest experiences of my life.

Went to "Shen Yun" yesterday. We were interviewed and photographed by their in-house press person - it will be hysterical if we are put in a catalog or something for the show. They are notorious for that.
The show was great in many ways, fine in others. The narrative was constructed of a series of vignettes placed across various periods of Chinese history, and the most clear overarching theme I was able to pick out of it was basically "people against oppression". And, there was a substantial amount of "heaven and Earth" interaction yet no clear Daoism or dichotomous Yin-Yang style depictions. Which really makes me wonder if there is something to to the "cult" narrative of the Shen Yun movement - but I suppose acquitting myself of that nicely would take a true blog post about the show. On another note, the costuming was terrific and the 8k projection (or whatever it is) was actually pretty mystifying and unique. The music was great. I'd say that it's worth seeing but not remotely worth seeing at the ticket level we bought. Basically any of the cheaper tickets will do. The only thing you get from rows 1-3 are the "experience" of the rolling fog machine covering the first few rows in fog during a vignette here and there. |

Saw Billy Corgan and the Machines of God last night. He played a lot of the Smashing Pumpkins material from Mellon Collie & The Infinite Sadness (which I think was the point of the tour).
Here was the setlist: Le Deux Machina Glass' Theme Heavy Metal Machine Where Boys Fear to Tread Pentagrams The Crying Tree of Mercury Stand Inside Your Love Zero Porcelina of the Vast Oceans Sighommi Glass and the Ghost Children 999 Bullet With Butterfly Wings Muzzle 1979 Here's to the Atom Bomb Edin The Everlasting Gaze White Spyder Tonight, Tonight (solo acoustic with Kid Tygr) If There Is a God Bodies The Aeroplane Flies High (Turns Left, Looks Right) I have to say that note-for-note and vocal quality he and his band sounded terrific. I was really impressed with the sound quality. But also, he's a pretty "safe" player - he doesn't press himself vocally and basically relies mostly on that really unique tone he has always sung with to make the impression, so it's not a "risky rock show" as much as a solid one. He's a better guitar player than I knew. His other guitarist, Kiki Wong is a raging babe - omfg. I had no idea. If you're a Gen X'er and haven't seen Billy Corgan or the Smashing Pumpkins, I'd say that it's in the "Required Viewing" category at least once. Last edited by IMJ; 06-21-2025 at 09:19 AM. |

My brother and I went to see The Hives the other day and they are just a wonderful bunch of megalomaniacs. Guys had wi-fi LED lighting on their suits. Awesome stuff.

Is there a good site that shows all tour dates bands have had over the years? As a teenager I went pretty much to most rock/metal concerts that toured were I lived, I'd like to make a list that's accurate with all the opening bands and such, if I go by memory I'm going to forget a bunch of artists or how many times I got to see them but to name a few:
Marilyn Manson Evanescence, Cold x2 Static X x2 Papa Roach x2 Staind Godsmack Sevendust Morbid Angel Cradle of Filth x2 NIN x2 POD Korn x2 Limp Bizkit Rob Zombie Rammstein Unkle Massive Attack Adema Pigface Lacuna Coil Slipknot Judas Priest Ozzy Osbourne Black Sabbath Black Label Society Dimmu Borgir Slayer Kiss Roger Waters Gwar Portishead Moby here are some more from going over the thread that I've also seen: Finger Eleven, 10 years, Taproot, Smile Empty Soul,, hate b reed, mudvayne, disturbed,, chevelle, killsiwtch engage, puddle of mudd, shinedown, I gotta work on this list, there's tons I've seen. Also just because I saw them doesn't necessarily mean I wanted to, but they were either the opener or headliner. I would've never paid to see Kiss or shinedown |

When I still used some social media, I had a last.fm account where making lists of concerts you visited was relatively simple.

Saw the Stone Temple Pilots again on Saturday night at the Genesee Theater in Waukegan, IL. It was a great show - really well mixed and man... Dean DeLeo (who is now unbelievably 65 years old) is an honest to God guitar master. Honestly, he adds so much to each song now that it's like Eddie Van Halen placing in all sorts of little small songs within the main song and not missing a beat. Dean belongs on Satriani's G3 tour for real.
Very happy to see those guys again. |

My wife and I went to a John Coltrane tribute show with Isaiah Collier backed by a state-funded Big Band. I‘m not a big Jazz fan but it was absolutely great.

Interesting timing too - I've been into Don Shirley a lot recently here. Maybe Coltrane is next.... |

I actually went to a concert last month. Went to see Tormentor. A black metal band from Hungary. It was nice.

My favorite band I ever seen more than once is probably Warpaint. They sound kinda like an all-female version of Pink Floyd if they were from California instead of England
