I know IDW Splinter wanted to protect his sons and wish they could live normal lives, but some of his behavior were like bury the head in the sand. At least 2012 Splinter will told his son this:

don’t like that Rise gave Raph and Donnie the full bandana that covers the head.

Not sure that's an unpopular opinion. I don't like it either and I've seen plenty of people complain when that happened in TNM and MM as well. There is something off about them covering their heads like that.

It's nice to see that other people hate the durag bandana on the turtles just as much as I do. The worst bandanas were those God awful Next Mutation ones. What on Earth were they thinking?

Absolutely horrendous. I have zero clue what they were thinking when they did those. That and everything else about it. Just terrible

Ya when it comes to certain things sometimes change just isn’t good. Turtles is such an iconic look. Hate to mess with that. Maybe in one off issue comics fine. But changing the look for a movie I just hate
