Making up a fictional country mimicking holocaust - fine. Referring to actual racism in the US (which would absolutely represent the source material) - bad. Gotcha.

Deflecting from Germany’s crimes against humanity, eh? What a patriot!

Just kidding of course. To be fair with Andrew’s point, I don’t think suggesting that post-Civil Rights Act America was as bad as Nazi Germany would be a good look (which if were hypothetically using Denzel and putting 55-ish years between Magneto’s origin and modern day Magneto à la the first Singer movie, that’s where we’d be at). Yes you still had hate crimes and institutional racism, but let’s call a spade a spade here.

I would probably argue that the transatlantic slave trade was actually worse than the Holocaust, but that’s not helping the problem of Magento’s age that’s causing this potential reimagining.

I’m guessing that you’ve never seen Mississippi Burning or American History X.

That's probably because most of the modern references to "racism" as far as "white evil" goes, is fabricated as an inherited right-of-passage from POC whose parents were angry at the dinner table, raising kids who believe they are fighting "the evil" that hasn't deeply existed in decades. Also, kids who are really brave going on about "colonizers" and other anti-white racisms because they aren't actually threatened by white people nowadays and therefore are free to run their mouths largely without repercussion.

But actual, real, historical racism is referred to in art and cinema all the time.

That statement falls apart as soon as you do one minute of research on hate crimes or discrimination in hiring.

But I know, people don‘t want lectures. And the new X-Men film is not going to be culturally relevant in any way.

I seriously doubt they'll have a Magneto without Jewish origins.
