Newspaper Strip Collection on the way from IDW

It's about time! IDW will be releasing a complete hardcover collection of the TMNT newspaper comic strip that ran from 1990 to 1997 on August 3rd, 2027! (The day after my Birthday!) Said collection will be a whopping 648 pages in length and retail for only $44.99. Here's the official rundown on the collection:

1990 was a huge year for the Turtles. The first live-action movie released, bringing the Heroes in a Half-Shell to millions of fans worldwide. At the height of this popularity, a daily comic strip premiered on December 10, 1990, and ran until January 1997. These comics have never been collected in one book before and have been unavailable in any format for years! Now is your chance to pick up a piece of Turtles history, perfect for those who read these strips in the newspapers originally and for new fans looking for a fun and nostalgic read!

Done in the same style as the popular Archie Comics series from the 1980s and ’90s, these comics include work by familiar creators such as Dean Clarrain, Dan Berger, Ryan Brown, and Jim Lawson.

This 11 x 8.5 hardcover edition is printed on high-quality paper that showcases these comics as never before, giving collectors something to proudly place on their bookshelves!
This should make a nice upgrade to the unofficial collections from a few years back. Excited to see these finally get an official release.

I'm intrigued, I've never heard of this. This newspaper strip comics are not reprints of other comics, right? Do they take place in their own continuity?

I don’t know that I’d call it “good”, but it’s a piece of Mirage history. Lots of Lawson and Berger art.

And that’s exactly what tempts me to take a look at it. Especially for Lawson.

Oh hell yes. I've almost pulled the trigger on the unofficial printings so many times. Now I'm glad I kept getting cold feet. Especially since this'll retail for about half of what the bootlegs would have cost me.

The price point is amazingly attractive enough for me to "double-dip" even after picking up the 3-volume fan-reprints. Those were nicely done books with a good introduction. Unfortunate that the third volume had a noticeable flaw of duplicating a strip and omitting the April 15th, 1996 one entirely:

One advantage the fan-printing still has is the inclusion of the full-run of the UK-exclusive daily strip AND reprinting the original color scans.

My gut feeling is that the IDW volume will be entirely in Black n' White.

Was the whole story originally in color or just a selection of strips?

I think that was only for the UK strips, but maybe some of the early Sunday strips were in color for the USA, like when they ran fan-submitted artwork or crossword puzzle games or whatever.

So long as nothing will be missing, that's a great thing to see release.
