Murph, is there any mention of special features on the packaging? I'm just wondering if there may be a script for "Nightmares Recycled" since the episode isn't included.

Also was the episode 100% cancelled and not produced because it was too "over the top" or just not included in the Oz release for that reason? I'm only asking as the official site put up the episode guide, including that episode, after production was complete and also because it states "Mirage and its partners decided to finish production on the "Ninja Tribunal" episodes (since much of the work had already been completed) and release them directly to DVD." I thought this would avoid another "Insane in the Membrane" situation. I don't doubt you, but I just wanted to double check since the info we've heard about the Lost Season has changed so often I wanted to be completely sure.

I don't know how much say you have over the DVDs, if any, but if "Nightmares Recycled" isn't going to be on the set (whenever it finally gets released in the US) could you ask Peter Laird/4Kids/Funimation to try and include the episode script and any animation/story boards/dialogue that was done as a special feature. I'd love to see the episode as story boards with voice over and sound effects if that's possible! Would be a great special feature and make the wait seem more worthwhile for fans who've been waiting so long to see these episodes!
I second that.

Yeah, a "first stage approval" (packaging design) to a 3-disc DVD set of the Lost Season... but only for Australia and New Zealand.

And it's now 12 episodes, not 13.

Seems 13 episodes entered into production but one episode got halted early in the animation process due to its story content being "too over the top." Whatever that means. Apparently, though, that missing 13th episode doesn't affect the continuity of the story arc.

So... you folks Down Under will get to see the Lost Season hit retail sometime over the next few months.

At least you guys got the original TMNT 'toon DVD releases...Up here we can only find them in certain stores, and I've yet to find a copy of anything but the first season in my home province of Nova Scotia.

Again, why it sucks to be here. I'd gladly trade you every OT DVD ever to be able to get the New Toon DVDs.

This news about the Lost Season DVD not getting released (as of now) is depressing. I was so looking forward to its release. Now I'm stuck w/ fast forward.

You guys, this Internet thing makes country borders virtually non-existant. It is SO easy to import any DVD from any country. Especially between countries that speak the same language. I've already imported two DVDs from Australia this year. For anyone not in North America, it's equally easy for you to import discs that haven't been released in your country.

And there is more than enough information available to help you play those DVDs. I'm just happy to know that it IS being released somewhere, if not here (yet).

Dude, I would trade you all of my old toon DVDs(and a copy of Rush Hour 2), for the Lost Season DVD.

Oh my god...

You, my good man, have just made my day! I've been looking forever for new turtle DVDs and I was about to give up hope when I read that! Forgive my sudden out burst but THANK YOU! On behlaf of all turtle fans from Down Under, we say THANK YOU and are forever in your debt for this heads up *hugs you and bows down before you like you are a god* Out of all seriousness though, thanks for the info Murphy. Us Aussies are so far behind on DVD releases that it isn't funny. And recently I can't even FIND the goddamn things. But this has most definatly made my day. Words alone can not even discribe my gratitude to your snippet of infomation. Thank you

But it is a shame to see only 12 of the 13 episodes are on DVD. You would think that a box set would have all of the episodes on it instead of missing out on one. Oh well. As long as it's the Lost Season, I'm happy *runs around in circles singing all of the turtle songs she knows*

Dear Murphy,

So, by "over-the-top", do they mean that "Nightmares Recycled" was too violent or just too far-fetched? But, it would be an awesome extra to see a script for it on the DVD. While watching an unfinished ep is preferable to reading tiny letters from my TV screen, don't have them go bankrupt to appease the fans. I'd rather strain my eyes than make 4Kids believe that TMNT isn't a profitable venture.

For whatever reason or reasons (unknown by me) the LS episodes are off the planning release board for North America. At least until someone thinks they can make money off of them. (Or am I being too cynical here?)

However, foreign DVD licensees --and, I imagine, broadcasters-- are free to buy whatever episodes they want from the US, aired or unaired. Hence the Oz-NZ release.

Fair point Gobo, I don't want them to go bankrupt to please the fans.

But if they started animation for the episode that should mean that the storyboarding was done and dialogue was recorded. As far as I'm aware dialogue is recorded to the storyboards and then animation is done around that to get things like lip-sync right. So technically if it reached animating the storyboard/dialogue video should have already been done so they could include it on the DVD if they were feeling generous towards fans.

True, but it really depends on how generous the ceative team and voice actors want to be.

I was told that the script and storyboards were completed and that animation had begun but that during the early stages of the animation someone (or more likely, someones, as such decisions rarely come down to one person) pulled the plug on the animation (and hence the episode) because the Garbageman-Hun, um, relationship, was "too much" for children's television.

I'm not sure if that plays into things. My sense is that if the production on the episode was halted because it was too strong (or too much or too whatever) for children's television then the same reasoning would hold for children's DVDs.

Thanks Murphy.

I hope the script/story boards make it onto the US DVD as a special feature when it eventually comes out. I'd love storyboard/dialogue video but I'd be happy with the script to read.

Edit: Sorry, hadn't seen your second post before I replied. I'm still a bit hopeful (after all it happened with "Insane in the Membrane") but I can see what you mean when you put it like that. I'd be happy with just a script to read!

That's interesting. If the script and/or storyboards don't make it as a special feature I'll have to remember to ask you what exactly the "relationship" was, but for now I'll hope we at least get some form of the episode on the DVD set as a special feature.

Anyhow, I certainly hope there is equal amounts for all, and not have a Leo or Raph story. We've done that with two of the movies already.
For what it's worth, Don's my favorite as well, and I agree that historically (in the more "serious" of the myriad TMNT universes) Mikey and Don have often taken a back seat to the Leo and Raph dyad and its surface antagonism.

That said... I really can't give away any more of the story than I already have. Sorry.

I should clarify this lest someone think I'm referring to a same-sex relationship. I'm not. (I would hope that such a relationship would be okay for children's television.)

The Garbageman-Hun relationship was more along the lines of a circus side-show type of relationship. (Don't wanna give it away!)

A tip of the hat to gobo on this one...
