Angry I hated whenever Raph threw his SAIS

I just used to hate that so much, it just feels like he's vulnerable when he "throws his weapon away," whether it be in the cartoons, movie, or comics. It just seems that in the heat of battle the effort to go and retrieve the thrown sai that skewered an enemy and then continue fighting the next bad guy outweighs simply dispatching your opponent using traditional weapon based combat that excludes throwing.

ha, i know exactly what you mean! I read earlier in the "Raph's Sais" thread that many ninjas carried three sai in the case that they had to throw one and could not retrieve it.

That is the one thing FF got right. When raph hurls his weapons if FF, they "magically" find their way directly back into his hands after striking the target.

I don't mind him doing it if he has no other choice, and out of all four Turtles his weapon is the most throwable.
But there were times in both old and new cartoons when he seemed to throw them just for the sake of it, which is silly, and I doubt Splinter would be too happy with that.

"I lost a Sai!"

"Then it is gone."

"'But I can get it back!"

You wouldn't have lost it if you didn't fling them around so much!!

I remember Leo throwing his swords at least a couple of times so it's not all Raph. Besides, unlike Leo, Sai are supposed to be thrown in certain situations.

Yeah throwing weapons with a purpose makes sense. The part that does not make sense is how they don't retrieve their weapons but still have them later.

Well in the movies, he didn't really use his sais that much. Usually he just used punching and kicking moves. I don't know why he gets so mad that he lost a sai, it's not like he uses them anyway.

A lot of basic sai techniques involve holding the sai so that punching and blocking technqiues are more effective (due to blocking and striking with metal). I always kind of saw them in a similar light to the brass knuckles.

That might explain his punching and stuff.

Thats true but none of the boys really use their weapons in the movie or in the cartoons. If they really did use them, there would probably be way more dead foot ninjas instead of foot ninjas getting bumped heads. I mean come on, double katana blades and no fatalities?! I don't want to start another tmnt violence snowball fight, I'm just saying.

You can thank the target audience at the time (me) for that sort of thing.

Yeah me too.

Even as a child I can remember thinking to myself. "Why doesn't shredder just arm his foot clan with guns?" Of course that wouldn't matter since the boys can dodge lasers. Ever notice how shooters always seem to miss the boys.

The way I saw it back then was that "Ninjas don't use guns" and other stuff like that.

It wasn't until I grew up that I found out that the Japanese have had guns since the 1500s or so and that Ninja did use them if they could get ahold of them.

Ha yeah. 3 ninjas.

"Rocky, these ninjas have guns!"

"Colt, if they have guns, they're no ninjas."

(I always wanted to be colt. Rocky = Leo. Colt = Raph. Tum-Tum = Mike)

And the three goons = Beebop and Rocksteady. The 3 ninjas made quick work of those morons.

BTW, I vaguely remember another movie similar to 3 ninjas with preteenagers that had martial arts skill. The only thing I can remember about the movie is a character named Cookie. Anyone know what movie this is?

Because it's totally cool to see him kill everyone he fights the exact same way. Totally entertaining.
