Murphy to step down as editor of Tles...

Taken from his recently discovered blog, posted today:

Quote:
From a Mirage company-wide email I sent out this morning:

"Hello everyone.

"Over the course of the next two months I will be stepping down from my duties as Managing Editor of our Publishing division, to be ably replaced by Dan Berger. Dan and I will work closely in the upcoming weeks to make the transition as smooth and painless as possible for everyone involved.

"What this means in the day-to-day sense is that everything scheduled for 2007 remains as-is, although Dan will be taking over solicitations, production management, etc., as we move into the summer. As far as the yet-to-be-scheduled 2008 books are concerned, I will meet with Dan and Pete sometime in late July to help them set forth a general production schedule. I will continue to write for Mirage and for a half-dozen or so issues of Tales in 2008.

"I'd like to thank everyone for the fun ride that it's been, and especially to Gary and Pete for making my stint at Mirage Publishing possible, to Katie for her invaluable assistance and support, and to Eric for his great design sensibility. I will now turn my attention away from Publishing and more towards Licensing, and with a fresh eye towards the events and such surrounding our upcoming 25th anniversary in May 2009."
Its a sad day for Tales fans, the guy was a total dude, he even printed my name in one of his editorials once But Dan Berger is taking over, and i'm sure we'll all agree that he'll do a grand job!! And by the looks of things, he's settling into his new job fine...

Mirage's C.E.O. Gary Richardson and Director of Licensing Steve Murphy attended the Licensing Show in New York City last week and here's the scoop regarding the future for the TMNT:

TMNT movie sequel: Mirage and its partners (Imagi, Warner Brothers and the Weinstein Group) are still discussing the possibility of a sequel for the CG film. Hopefully a decision will be made by the end of summer. Think positive - create good karma!

TMNT cartoon on 4Kids TV (USA): Six new episodes of "Fast Forward" will air this fall beginning in September. From January to May of 2008, 4Kids TV will air most or all of the "Ninja Tribunal" episodes (although episode #110, "Nightmares Recycled", WILL NOT be completed or aired). Series producer Lloyd Goldfine and TMNT co-creator/owner Peter Laird are currently in talks regarding a new direction for the series to take in the fall of '08, but no definite decision has been made regarding what this new direction may be. Time will tell - but mum's the word for now.

Playmates Toys: movie-themed toys will continue to be released until mid 2008. No decisions have been made yet regarding what will be released for the second half of '08. Rumors of a 5' tall robotic action figure that can talk and do seven different martial arts moves are not true.

Ubisoft: Mirage is in negotiations with Ubisoft to produce a new TMNT video game. The CG movie models will be used, although the game will be independently produced (so it won't be directly based on any preexisting media like a TV show or film). If all goes well, the game will be out in late 2008 or early 2009. More than likely it will not be released on all of the same platforms that the movie game appeared on.

A retro-licensing program will kick into high gear in 2008 with merchandise based on the 1980s TMNT cartoon series. Lots of adult-sized gear will be available! Can we get a "Cowabunga!" from the faithful? Awe yeah!

Steve Murphy will be spearheading (katana-heading?) special events and merchandise programs to commemorate the 25th anniversary of the TMNT comic book in May, 2009. It's too early to say what will be involved, but Mirage plans to celebrate this monumental achievement in style!
Some pretty exciting news in here too! New retro merchandise?! 25th Anniversary celebrations? Airing of the 'lost season'?! New game?! Bring it on!! Shame about the 5 foot tall robotic action figure though, that sounds AMAZING!!!

Dan Berger is a great guy so the the comics will be in good hands.

Although it makes you wonder if updates on the site will be more scarce since this sounds like more work than he's used to.

Thanks, tookie.

I wish Murph luck in his new focus.

Dan can't possibly be taking that on by himself, can he? Doesn't he already have like six jobs?

Hahaha, well shoot. I'll be more than happy to take over his duties as web master if need be. I'm not so good with editing pictures, though, but I can do everything else. Of course, if I was in charge of the site, I'd be putting out issue scans about once a week rather than once every two months.

Dan should let me take over on his site updating job heheh.
Or atleast the toy section.
This is wonderfull news I talk to Dan all the time and he's an awsome guy I have no doubt in my mind that he is the best choice for this job.
And I'm so excited that Murphy is handling all of that he's also the right man for the job!

How sweet would it be if Forever War played into the 25th anniversary celebration? Yknow, completing the old comic series we grew up with? Maybe wishful thinking but a nice thought indeed.

Best of luck to Murph in his new job concentration. They'll miss you across the hall, I'm sure.

Also, best of luck to Dan in his 25th or so new job assignment. You do too much, sir.

Since that's an Off-Topic (notice the pun) related project, it'll probably be tied in with the unofficial 20th anniversary celebration for the Off-Topic (recall the pun) this upcoming winter (meaning the adult-sized retro gear being released).

I don't even want to speculate on what this means for the fate of the book, particularly right after the Licensing Show...

... what I will do... is say Congratulations, Dan! He can do this with two hands tied behind his back and a blindfold.
