Insomnia
So who here has a little insomnia? For those who don't know there's three kinds.
Three types of insomnia exist: transient, acute, and chronic 1. Transient insomnia lasts from one night to a few weeks. Most people occasionally suffer from transient insomnia due to such causes as jet lag or short-term anxiety. If this form of insomnia continues to occur from time to time, the insomnia is classified as intermittent. 2. Acute insomnia is the inability to consistently sleep well for a period of between three weeks to six months. 3. Chronic insomnia is regarded as the most serious; persists almost nightly for at least a month. I think I have Transient right now. Sometimes for some off reason I just can't sleep. I think maybe it's because I've had too much sleep but I don't get much sleep anymore so I'm baffled. Last night I went to bed around 3 AM and I woke up around 12 or 1 I think. Then around 6:30. 7 my roommate left and I feel asleep again and woke up at 9. I've been awake since. I was feeling crummy that's why I napped so I figured I'd be tired as all hell. Now I'm wide awake and it sucks because I have work at 5 AM so I have to get ready at 4:30. It's 11 where I live. Like I said this happens every once in awhile it's really weird. Anyone else here suffer from Insomnia? What do you do to get rid of it? Me personally I just put up with it cause I've tried that warm milk thing and stuff and it never works. One time I worked out for 2 hours and I still couldn't fall asleep afterwards haha |

I would have to say I am a chronic insomniac now...I used to only have trouble sleeping when I was stressed, like in school. But last year was a constant year of stress, continuing into this year. So for the past 6 months or so, I have been living on little to no sleep. Fortunately, I have a cold right now. I say fortunately because I take NeoCitron for colds at night to help me fall asleep so I am guaranteed a good 8 hours of sleep, but once I get better, I will be back to 4 hours of sleep or so per night. This is actually why I prefer working 5pm-10pm. It accomodates my retarded sleeping patterns.
If I am having a really craptacular time trying to fall asleep (and I don't have a reason to take NeoCitron |

I've been going through that for years. I'll sleep fine for awhile, then hit insomnia again. Sometimes I take sleep pills for it, other times I just turn on the TV and put a cartoon like Masters of the Universe, TMNT or GI Joe on and eventually I'll get so relaxed I may fall asleep.

I've got acute insomnia, and I've had it for more years than I can recall. I haven't really had a horrible "episode" of it for awhile, but the last one I had lasted me about a week and a half, and that doesn't mean cat naps, that means no sleep. I go to a ton of various doctors for it, but nothing really works for very long. And I never sleep normally, ever. I can't recall having a normal sleeping pattern since I was a kid. If I sleep for longer than 2 hours without waking up, I consider it a blessing. On a normal day I'll go to sleep around 5:30-6 am, and wake up around 7:00-7:30 am. When I do fall asleep for longer periods of time, it's usually during the day, and usually following 24+ hours of no sleep. I'm constantly worn out, constantly tired, yet unable to rest. It really has an effect on your life after awhile.
Typically, nothing specific ever works to make me fall asleep, but I have a couple things I do that have a good chance of knocking me out. One is just laying in bed and reading. That works probably the best out of anything I ever try, but often times I'll feel myself floating off and put down the book, only to not be able to fall asleep once I put it down. Another thing I do is watch insanely boring videogame speed runs. But other than those two things, there is rarely anything that works. None of those crappy methods of falling asleep have ever worked for me, so I don't even try anymore. If worse comes to worse and I'm in terrible need of sleep, I'll pop some pills (usually more than the recommended dosage) and try and knock myself out. Not exactly healthy, but sometimes I have no choice. |

Everybody has trouble sleeping once in a while. F*cked-up sleep cycles are an unfortunate but inescapable part of life -- if left to my own devices, I'd go to bed at six or seven in the morning and wake up at supper time.

Oh and I almost forgot a glass of wine or two can also help a bit. Not sure if you are legal drinking age or not, but it can work pretty well for me.

Yeah, I forgot that I normally sleep a good 5 hours after I drink. That's actually why I became borderline alchoholic for about 2 weeks around 6 months ago. I would get hammered every single night and wake up feeling pretty good. After about two and a half weeks of this, however, I started getting really really sick. Probably a good thing I didn't continue down that path.

Yeah, you really have to be able to have the will power to know when to stop. I sually only drink a glass or two and leave it at that. Although Lately I've fallen in love with Brandy and Cherry coke. 3 of those and I get really sleepy.
I love a good Port. |

I fall asleep to turtles every night, I actually can't fall asleep if I don't watch it. It's awesome to find out I'm not the only one who does that I thought I was weird haha.
I'm not of legal drinking age but in my house if I wanted to I could get my hands on anything, I just choose not to. I think my body just doesn't need as much sleep anymore as it used to. Cause honestly I used to have to sleep 10+ hours a night to be awake and functioning during the day and in the past few months I've needed less and less sleep. If I get like 7 I'm perfectly fine and right now I'm not tired awake I'm actually awake like I just got up to go to work. I remember hearing about a guy in Asia somewhere whose a farmer and he never sleeps. He watches over his and his neighbor's farm at night. I guess he used to as a kid but now he can't. Though this guy doesn't seem to have a condition like Peanut's where it affects his functioning. Sorry to hear that Peanut I hope you find a solution to that. |

For the past month and a half I haven't gone to sleep before 4:30 am. I'm not sure if this insomnia like I originally thought or if this is just a summer sleeping pattern I've fallen into or (most likely) 1st one then that lead to the other.

Lately I've been getting into a transient sleeping pattern. Last night was the worst - never got to sleep until 1am. It's because of all of these assignments and orals I've been trying to hand in on time. I just can't sleep at night knowing I could be working on it. It's horrible...
And knowing me, I'm not going to get any sleep tonight either since I have to finish another oral due tomorrow. I'm so stressed right now because of all of this crap...like I'm on the verge of having a heart attack or something. It's just a horrible phase that will pass when I go on holidays, fortunately. But when I can't sleep I like to let my imagination run wild. Eventually my thoughts become dreams and my dreams fade to black as I go to sleep.

When I was 18 I had chronic insomia for up to a year. It was quite funny. I'd get to points where I was so exhausted I would just spontaneously fall asleep during the day. But when night came.... nothing.
I think it was stress related cos I was doing my A Levels then. Am fine now. Every time I have a sleepless night though I get into a panic, thinking I'm going to go back to how I was at 18 and just end up fuelling the sleepless night. But I love sleeping so much. I generally sleep really well now. I love my pillow and my duvet. Hmmmm. sleeeeep |

I can sleep, I just don't get tired until really late (Or early, I guess). Lately I've been going to bed around 4~6AM and waking up at like 3~5PM. It really sucks, and I need to sort out my sleeping habits before school starts again.

A while back, when I was in high school, I would see so many kids falling asleep during class. I was never able to do that. I'd try to put my head down and sleep, but it would never work. Now that I'm older, I can take naps during the day, and any time of the day. I very rarely have any insomnia, but when I do, usually I'll play a video game for a while, and pass out with the controller still in my hand.
I've also noticed that I can usually run a full day on no more than 5 hours of sleep. I dunno why. I guess I'm just lazy? |

I have transient during school when I'm stressed out, but just like alot of you I have to fall asleep to turtles everynight, or astleast watch till I'm sleepy. If I'm stressed/exhausted, avoiding daytime naps sometimes helps me, but not always.

I've only had one night of insomia, and that was last monday night/tuesday morning I'm guessing it was "ladies troubles". I eventually fell aleep sometime after 5AM. And I had to get up at 8.
My sleeping patterns have been effed up for years though. Jut now I cant fall asleep till after 4AM and I sleep in till between 11AM and 1PM. When I was at school I didnt fall asleep till between 1 and 3AM and got up at 8AM. I have huge bags under my eyes and I'm naturally pale sinned, luckily my glasses hide them. Sometimes once a month I'll catnap. Usually between 6 and 10PM, then my mum wakes me so I sleep the night. I find things to do though, I've got a PS2, DVD's and sometimes I even try to quietly clean my room.

I've personally never had any serious problems sleeping, (I'm actually getting tired a lot earlier than usual latley) but I've had those nights where for some reason, you just lay in bed for hours without being able to sleep. It must be awful to have insomnia

I have always had sleep problems. Sometimes I do get transient insomnia indeed. Sometimes it is related to my moods/outer events- sometimes it's not.
