Peter Laird and Kevin Eastman Appreciation thread
Really...I feel kinda bad about how much bashing we give these guys, when you consider the fact that when it comes down to it....they created the turtles, and have done plenty to keep us fans happy...plenty...even if you don't like some of the decisions. I think we should really sticky these...I mean these guys are the reason were all here. It could be a thread to talk about just how much we appreciate their work, and maybe even post some fan art(I'm gonna start mine right now, although I'm not the most talented artist here) with notes or symbols of appreciation. Maybe if we clean this place up a little we can even get Peter to visit the forums and really unite the fandom with the creator. I think things would be a lot smoother that way...I mean he obviously visits these forums right? Mod's...please do me a favor and sticky this. I just feel like there isn't a lot of gratefulness for what these guys have done. Haters, take you're bashing elsewhere...

Ok..well in my opinion these guys rock. They inspired me to become the professional artist I am today with singlehandedly releasing vol.1 First Graphic Novels. If not for them I wouldn't have honed my drawing skills in the first place. I have so many old sketch pads from '87 to early '90s filled with drawing after drawing of Ninja Turtles. Though not my only inspiration, these guys are definitely my biggest.

If it wasn't for them I'd probably have never heard of some of my other idols, like Pat Fraley and Rob Paulsen.

I don't ever see anyone being mean to Kevin, and fans only share opinions about Peter.
It's not like anyone is saying Die Peter Laird or anything like that. But they've done allot with the help of many who go uncredited like steve Murphy, Dan Berger, Ryan Brown, etc, etc. Mirage and the Turtles have changed my life forever. |

I totally appreciate Kevin and Peter for having created the Turtles.
And I appreciate the work done by the other Mirage staff as well. How big of a role do the rest of the Mirage staff members have in the other Turtle incarnations? I know they have had some role in the Archie comics, but do they add a lot to the cartoons or the movies?

Wait, we were bashing them?
I love Peter and Kevin for all they have done. And are doing. They clearly have made their footprint in popular culture, and they have created something that I'm proud to be a part of witnessing - the story of four brothers and their mentor. Thank you, Peter Laird and Kevin Eastman.

I'm not trying to say were all haters or anything, I just think for all the negativity there can sooometimes be around here, that it wouldnt hurt to take up a couple centimeters of your monitor to talk about how much appreciation we have for these guys...
I honestly feel like the tmnt are my brothers in a way...not in some delusional fanboy way, but I just feel like they've been there for me in a lot of ways, which mainly means Kevin and Peter have been there for me haha. I dont know what I'd do without these guys. Still hoping they can have a reunited graphic novel put out someday or something. |

I think it's easy for people to pick on Laird, he's the kinda nerdy one, who injected a lot of Sci-fi into the Turtles and has had control of the franchise for a while now. While Kevin is the cool you wish he was your Uncle type, who's no longer making any decisions and thus no "blame" can be placed on him.
I have no idea what fans would be like if the roles were reversed, because while it's easy to "think" that Kevin would pump out Turtle stuff that is exactly how we want it, that's very unlikely. He probably would have taken the Fab Four in another different direction and we very well may have hated that too. I'm very appreciative of both of their work. I'm always puzzled that Kevin kind of gave up on the TMNT, but I know he's very busy and he's living the dream. Owning Heavy Metal, banging the B-Movie Queen, I got nothing but mad respect for him. And Peter has kept the flame alive and fought on and helped create a complete Turtle resurgence that's led to some awesome toys, great merchandise and an incredible cartoon. |

But that's not on Peter many others at Mirage help get this things moving like Steve Murphy, hell even fans bring up ideas to companies and help get the wheels moving. |

I am amazed at those initial Eastman & Laird issues. I would love to see Eastman do another new issue for Tales, though that seems unlikely.
It appears that Laird has brought many of the recent criticisms upon himself, but I really do believe he has the Turtles property's best interest at heart and that he genuinely loves the characters and wants to see them represented well. |

And Peter makes a huge amount of the decisions. Probably 90%. Trying to credit the NECA or other deals to someone other then Laird is nice, but Peter himself went over the NECA figures and others certainly help out at Mirage, but Laird makes the majority of calls. Which is one of the reasons Eastman gave up control because there was too much work involved when working on all the various licenses and such. |

Not much of a comic book reader. I'll admit to that. But I definitely appreciate this little piece of pop culture that Eastman and Laird have created.
Sometimes, I play with the idea that the Turtles are so far fetched, but so well drawn out character wise and story wise, I quietly wondered if they were real and Peter and Kevin were just friends that made the comics to de-bunk any truth to their existence. I can have a wild imagination when I want to! I also noticed under several new sites and references, when looking up weapons, the ninja turtle Raphael is claimed to have single handedly brought popularity to the sai. That's something interesting I thought. Goes to show that the Turtles brought to light, thanks to the imginations of Laird and Eastman, many cultures and ideas to the mass population. I sure hope the tradition can live as long as Superman and Spider-man have. |

Hahah, imaginations can really take you anywhere. I've toyed with similar thoughts before too. Interesting tidbit about Raph and sai's...looks like the turtles have done more than we realize. |

They've inspired me to do a lot of Turtle artwork, that's for sure. Plus, they're basically the creators of something that was a big deal for me as a child and still is today. In a way, I don't think I can say enough good things about Eastman and Laird and if it wasn't for them, I wouldn't be into/support indie comics and independent entertainment as much as I do today.

Out of curosity, are the TMNT the most popular non-human comic book hero? Or at least one of the first? Most of your other comics are based in someway on humans. Superman, Spider-man, Batman. The Punisher. I was just wondering.
