I wonder if the turtles believe in life after death or in encountering some form of judgement when they die? Was any of that ever touched on in the comics, I can't remember excpet for this issue I think about Valhala or what ever.
Or for that matter I wonder if April or Casey have any religous beliefs that they practice? Each of them seemed pretty accepting of the turtles being chemically induced and not one of "God's creations".

Just a reminder that attacking other members' personal beliefs is not allowed on these forums. You're welcome to discuss religion, but please respect the beliefs of others while doing so (this means rude comments like comparing religion to brainwashing are not welcome).

the turtles definately inherented human souls along with human thought and conscienceness. The turtles are definately human where it counts most even if they started out as just animals with animal souls (and animals do have souls, just not human ones) They are very far removed from the tiny animals they started off from. The have a conscience that bothers them when they do something wrong and reservations; these are all signs that they have a human soul with the freedom of mind and will to choose to eighther do good or do bad. Only humans have this aspect to them and animals don't have the this conscienceness because they act out of survival and instinct.

hey question. How do think a priest or a Rabbi, or some other religious figure would react if they interacted with one of the turtles. How do you think the turtles would react?
Do you think the turtles would be respectful of them or not? Like if they where confronted on what the hell they where?

This sounds like the set-up to a joke...
"A priest, a rabbi, and Michelangelo walk into a bar..." That would depend on the situation, I think. In real life people are pretty freaked out every time they see anything unusual, so if it were "real life" only the most enlightened of people would treat the Turtles as anything but hostile, sadly. The Turtles, however, always try to show everyone the utmost respect, regardless of beliefs, because that's what I think Splinter would want them to be like. And if Grant Morrison scripted the meeting they'd all hold hands, sip peyote and go on some cosmic vision quest in search for truth, enlightenment, the one true god and the nature of all things, only to find that the meaning of existence is simply to exist and all things are as they were meant to be, for how else could things be? He's deep, that Grant Morrison... |

In the early issues of the comics, the Turtles were discovered in a meditative trance with their hands flded in a way meant to mimic Kuji-In, a mudra-based meditation system that comes from Mikkyo Buddhism. Such things are generally considered very closely related to Ninjutsu or, at the very least, Ninja themselves as I've never seen a historical Ninja text that went over the spiritual stuff. Usually the texts just go over the technical aspects of Ninjutsu.
So, it might be safe to say that the Turtles, at least in the early days of the comics, are or were Buddhists. Sure, Buddhism is a philosophy/religion that holds pacifism very highly, but it was also said that because of a warrior's life, such a philosophy was most needed by them in order to come to grips with all the killing that they've witnessed and taken part in. |
