Splinter's use of punishments

Splinter taught Leo that trick because Leo was more eager to learn and showed more aptitude. While Raph was busy arguing with the TV, Mikey was too distracted with his comic books and video games, and Donnie was too mesmerized by his gadgets, Leo was probably begging Splinter to teach him new things.

I agree with this I think Splinter taught Leo that trick because he is more eager over all to learn ninjisu than the others and the others when they are not doing training are off doing other things that interest them. Splinter doesn't play favorites with the turtles.

Or, that Splinter couldn't really help the others with their interest because he had no knowledge, and there begins the very closeness between Splinter and Leo.

I still feel, of out all the Turtles, the one that has helped make their lives actually civilized, is Donny, and I hardly see anyone showing their appreciation towards him, except for Raph when Donny made that bike for him. It's a good thing Donny loves doing all those gadgets and tinkering with electronics and mechanics, or he might have been worse than Raphael in feeling dejected.

well you don't have to be a super genius to hook up a television set or VCR or get ahold of some furniture and arrange them. Or even to get ahold of some fresh water and eletricity and heat. When the turtles where very young Splinter seemed like he eventually put all these things in the lair for the turtles to enjoy so I doubt Don was able to do when he was still very young. So having a civilised home life was thanks to Splinter and eventually the turtles (like most children do) learned how to install these things them selves. Don is more responciable for the turtles having cool modes of transpertation and weapons and installing high tech safety devices for the lair.

I think in the turtles' case, "This will hurt me more than it hurts you" would really apply to splinter, spanking a shell and all.

looks pretty accessable if you ask me. I guess this means that the boys having a shell didn't give much protection, so I guess it's more than likely that Splinter wouldn't have had a problem spanking the turtles when they where kids even with a shell.

In the mirage comics, was Splinter ever shown having to punish the turtles? Did he whap them in the head with his cane like he does in the 2k3 series?

I think Splinter is alot more slack in the comics, he lets his under aged sons drink beer and they cuss!!

Wow, lets see. Did Splinter ever spank the turtles? I think he did, I think Raph and Mikey probably got the most punishments and spankings out of all of them but I think the turtles got into trouble together most of the time. I don't think Splinter went over board though, I think he probably just put them in time out or something.

Do any of you think Raph's big temper is something he has had forever, or was it something that slowly built up and became more prominent when he hit his teens?

I think Raph has always had a temper but it got worse as he got older. Now I have a question, do you think Don had a temper growing up?

at their current age I think I've seen it stated they weigh in the 180/190 pound range.

While I don't doubt that what you say is true...that really doesnt make a whole lot of sense considering their intense muscle mass and their shells.

Based on which ninja turtle design? Of all the bios I've seen over the years, I don't recall seeing any stating that the TMNT are at or over 200lbs. From what I've seen, they're usually in the range of 140 to 180. I got old cards and an RPG book with dicriptive bios.

The TMNT only look big because that's just the usual artist's perception of what they think the TMNT should look like (big buff steroid pill-poppers)
But based on Kevin Eastman & Peter Laird's designs, the TMNT are actually quite lean and small. Alot like how they look in the new TMNT movie.

Also, bone and flesh weigh about the same. You might think that bone = stone in mass, but the truth is bone is pretty light.

I think it depends on who draw them weight wise. crud i can't remember certain artists....i was gonna use for example...

mirage they look 180-90ish, then you got other versions they'd look 200-240ish.

possibably, it may have been what caused him to turn toward isolating himself and focusing on building things. In alot of ways I think he and Raph are alot alike that they both isolate themselves and do their thing.

Hey do you think Splinter ever uses "slave labor" to punish his sons when they do a transgression against each other? I've read of RPG's where Splinter makes Mikey and sometimes Raph become "slave for a week" for the rest of them as punishment.

do you really think Mikey was that much a hell raiser growing up that he needed to be thwacked or spanked all the time?

Mikey is one over-looked teenager. His taken for granted and gets physically hurt the most. If he is a real boy, he will be covered in bruises and will surely have cracked skull and rib cage or somewhere. Just imagine getting whacked by a cane on the hands several times per hour by your own father, being slapped on the nape by your "oldest" brother, getting beaten and laughed at by your second "oldest" brother, and getting forcibly fed by a floor wax mixture by your third "oldest" brother while being pinned down by your "oldest" brother. Plus, he always is the bait during dangerous scenes. Tsssskkkk... Poor Mikey.
