Until recently, says Mirage because NECA's radio silence toward them.

Now, though, they're saying that it will happen, but they need funding first.

So instead of "it'll never happen" we now have "it probably won't happen but it might."

Y'know, as that's asked about every page or so... we should really have a thread about the current situation with NECA.

I hate to say "I told you so" to all the Playmates haters and so called insiders who were so certain that NECA wasn't making Series 2 because of Playmates... But there is absolutely NO TRUTH to that at all. The figures are still coming:

Amidst rumors of feuding between Playmates, Mirage, and NECA, many Fwooshers have been wondering the fate of second series of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles that were shown at last year's San Diego Comic Con. Today, we had the opportunity to speak with Randy Falk, NECA's Director of Product Development. He assured us that they are still planning to ship TMNT series 2 later this year.
The series 2 lineup:

Shredder with Utrom
April O'Neill with battle-damaged Mouser
Foot Ninja with Mouser (articulated jaw)
Foot Elite
Furthermore, Randy said that all the internet rumors regarding difficulties between Mirage, Playmates, and NECA are just that - rumors. He did acknowledge that there have been difficulties with series 2, but that they were not related to the relationship between the licensor and licensees.

While the first series of turtles did very well domestically, internationally, the comic property is just not that well known. That resulted in lower overall sales than NECA would have liked. For NECA to produce a specialty line like this, they need the product to do well everywhere, or they need to figure out how to cost the series out at a much smaller production quantity. Even with the army builder angle with the Foot Ninjas, Randy doesn't think they can meet the sales figures of the turtles.

They want series 2 to have the same level of quality as the first, so they won't consider things like making them smaller, or reducing paint or articulation - but that does make costing out the series much more challenging. One cost savings that they will likely enact would be to eliminate the bases. They are also considering doing color variations for the series, as the Foot Ninjas were shown as displayed early in the series but got deeper colors later on. April has also been shown in a variety of different colored jumpsuits.

Randy also mentioned the possibility of exclusives for San Diego Comic Con, around the same time he thinks the series would ship to specialty retailers.

If getting those sweet figs means getting rid of the bases, so be it. I already got the four TMNT with bases... so I don't think that having wave 2 with bases is needed (esp. if we're probably going to buy more than one foot ninja, or elite.)

Actually there's nothing to tell, Peter Laird, & Steve Murphy at Mirage had been trying to get ahold of NECA since the San Diego comicon last summer (was it) and hadn't heard a peep from them since before that.
NECA was going to send Mirage some Black & White box sets as well as the Mouser packs to try and help boost sales a bit, but they never sent them a single one.
NECA was acting very shady and some of these so called "rumors" came from Mirage it's self.
I've also been told by Mirage that this international thing is something new that NECA has never brought up before.
If it's really that big of an issue for them then they shouldn't be selling them over sea's.
If people want them bad enough they will do what those of us in the U.S. do and pay for the extra shipping from the U.K. I mean they get enough exclusive things over there why shouldn't we for a change.
I'll def. be happy to buy everything they bring out even if each figure costs more.
One thing I must say though is that they are once again taking to long to bring these things out.

I still wish that Shredder were buffer, but hey...

Also, I wish they had mentioned something about rereleasing the first wave! I could pass on the guys before, but now that this Shredder and April are coming...

I really like the Foot ninjas and would get them, but man, times are tough! I could see passing on them if necessary. More for the army builders, eh?

None of this "news" means anything if NECA still hasn't found their funding. Last report, they were "heading to the European Union" to look for financing... and this was just a month or two ago (all this time, they still don't even have the money to make it?).
