AH-HA! I see what has happened. My automatic homeland-defenses were raised when you said "the April O'Neil "walkabout" issue that Tristan mentioned in a different thread." and I thought - initially - that you had invented an issue where April comes to Australia and literally goes "walkabout" to give me another ol' fashioned Tupper ribbing. Hence my response. If you hadda linked me up so my brain didn't have to work and be as well as half fearing some sort of patented Road Runner style trap of your evil genius level designs I would've been sweet

Ultimately, said April issue, if the example I pointed to was correct, is a Berger written issue out next month, with Jim Lawson on art. Dan IS doing the art for December's issue though, which involves the farmhouse, the Foot, and lots of snow.

Um, I have perused the official website, particularly it's positively lovely "Books of the Future" page. Today is June 02, in the year of our Lord, 2009.

The issue THIS month is by Paul Harmon, and some other dude. I don't remember his name at the moment (Winston?).

The issue for the month AFTER that reads:

"Nobody Does It Better" - This action-packed issue features the shocking return of Nobody, the crime-fighting vigilante thought to be slain in “TMNT” volume two #12! We discover the fate of the not-so-fallen hero while Raphael and Casey Jones encounter a new villain with super-human (and extraterrestrial) powers!

This does not sound like the April O'Neil American "walkabout" issue at all.

What gives, Jones? Or is this just some perverse revenge for my having confused you?

I got the issue today, Laird sketch + autograph intact. It was pretty good... I don't know if it was worth the wait, though. Gonna flip through it a few times before I give final judgment.

I got my issue this morning. Seeing how I have several drawings from Laird and Berger/Lawson...I opted for Talbot. I've never been a HUGE fan of his but his sketching is pretty badass. Sorry for poop quality, need to get new phone.

Got my copy today. Reminded me how excited I am to see this storyline continue.

Looking back at it, the plot moved foward remarkably little. But the pacing is good. Sure it's frustrating only getting the story in little bits, but from issue #12 onwards, the pacing's been really strong. I have no doubt that when read as a whole, this will actually be one of my favorite TMNT stories.

Lawson's art is well done in this issue. The Photoshop tones look like crap in the online versions for some reason, but are actually very serviseable on paper. I've never really seen this addressed, but Lawson uses a totally different style for his Volume 4 issues than in his Tales issues. His Volume 4 work is much more detailed, and it's really grown on me. I like it.

I have, as ever, certain faults with Laird's dialogue. Casey narrating his thoughts for four pages in Karai's appartment is ridiculous. If anyone has a story about the last time they woke up hungover in a strange place and proceeded to deliver an expository monologue, I'd love to hear it.

But overall, I'm a fan of Volume 4 and am looking forward to more.

Hate to be a party pooper, but it took a year for THIS?

It was decent, but Casey talking to himself was annoying... and they hardly advanced his story.

While I'm glad to see Mike back in action, that was too long. They spend a whole page on just that Tric captains rambling introduction. I mean you could verbally summarize this issue to someone in less than 60 seconds and they would have the exact same knowledge as anyone who actually read it.

WAIT!!! I get it.... Teenage Mutant Ninja TURTLES... TURLTES pace!

Hopefully next issue is good.... so I can read it to my great grandchildren.

Even the best movie will seem terrible if you break it up into five-minute pieces. Seriously, the pacing of the overall story is good. It's just that we get it in such small increments that it's frustrating. They could've cut the shark and some of Casey's monologuing (which was painful), but even that wouldn't have freed up too much space.

I used to read manga, so maybe I'm more accepting of it. With that you can wait months for twelve pages of nothing but atmospheric shots. But when you read it in a collected volume, it really works.
