Donatello: The Brain Thief #4 (already out)

My review.

I don't like being a douche about things, but this series did not have even remotely enough content to warrant $13 bucks.

Hah you actually counted the words, good form. That's a shame about this series. It had a lot of potential with the Don vs. Baxter discussions. I wonder if it got the shaft because of the sale to Nick/Viacom. I had very high hopes for this because Don is PL's favorite turtle and the previously mentioned Don/Baxter conversations that could have happened.

This is weird. Mycomicshop says that this whole series (all four isues) have been published by IDW.

Fast Forward?

That's very weird. It's probably just a mistake on the website's part. Though it might mean something else...

Well, what can I say?...

I was soooo excited for the buildup on this series but at the end of the day, I feel like somebody forgot to write the story, leaving us with just panels of Donatello running around illustrated by Lawson. Big hype, big letdown.

Would someone care to explain this issue to me? I didn't exactly see Don's "dark side." Use spoiler tags if posting in thread (duh).

Heck, while you're at it, explain this entire series to me. Maybe I'm just an idiot.

Donatello...

Spoiler:
reluctantly sacrificed a dog in order to stop the nanobots.

Yeah, I wasn't expecting it either.

I got #3 Thursday before last (Thanksgiving delay), though it wasn't listed by Diamond to be out that week.

Diamond had #3 listed to be out LAST Wednesday, but then #4 came out that day. So I'm expecting Diamond to list it for NEXT Wednesday.

From my experiences, Mirage's release schedules and Diamond's listings have never, ever synced up. TMNT books either come out a week before or a week after the Diamond listing.

Go Mirage. Wooo.

I was glad to have gotten them so closetogether, but sadly the whole thing was a dissapointment.

Don's "dark side" is that he resorted to fire-arms again and kept a sentient cyborg locked in a secret room for decades.

Unfortunately, neither one was given a passing thought in this mini-series.

I just got the first two issues of this in the post. Can anyone explain why the issues are bookended by plain black pages and why there's no editorial page?

The entire thing seemed pretty rushed. #3 doesn't even have a credits page. #4 has to make up for it by including a credits page for all 4 issues just so you can know who inked what.

I was somewhat impressed by #4. I mean, if you were to boil all 4 issues down into about 1 normal-sized issue... you'd end up with a fairly compelling little tale.

Yeah, I was disapointed with this mini series. It seemed it would be up there with the Mike and Leo series as being potentially good. But its just above the horrible Ralph mini. Don very quiet and secretive about the whole Baxterbot body he kept, all to himself. Realizes he can't really stop this thing and has to resort to a sacrifice of a dog, which I didn't know he had. Was the dog bot crushed or just left in this tight sealed room (I just ain't sure)? We want to learn why Don kept Baxter but we don't. It was all about this spinoff of the nanobots from Baxterbot, IIRC. Just no depth to this story. Just running around and chasing and brief fight bits. No words and text really for 95% of the story. It should've been better and it wasn't. It sure leaves Don to be with his own dark secrets. I was surprised it never involved the other turtles, which I actually thought might be the case with issue #3's ending, but why would they be in a locked door? Was it Baxter he was talking to? Just to me you can never tell what room is what. Oh and I think Jim Lawsons art is just a wee bit better when he inks it himself. Jim and Eric Talbot aren't good together. Its just lines with so much white space from the pages. Jim at least embellishes his art with a tone of black inks and white art that at least stands out on the panels and pages.

Well, I loved this series. I had read all the comments here before (and the review by DrSpengler), so I had pretty low expectations for it, but I have to say that it actually surprised me. I find Lawson's storytellig amazing, and I pay a lot of attention to that when reading a comic. I loved Eric Talbot's inks (can't say who I prefer tho), and I think Lawson did a specially good job here.

I can see what you guys mean with the lack of story, but I thought the whole thing was pretty deep. Ok, it's not like it revealed much of Donnie's dark side, but still, it had a strong felling (for me at least). Also, I really enjoyed the atmosphere. It's a quick read, that's for sure, but i think that all four issues put together work very well (maybe it loses too much when you have to wait to read the next issue).

I too enjoyed it. Perhaps a bit of a fast read, with alot of sewer-sprinting, however it contained some cool moments, and some good art. The only thing is, it could have been better. Donatello and the Stockmanbot? Shoulda been some darker and more memorable moments than what there was.
