Destroyer of the Family, Thy Name Is SISTER

Has your family ever been in a bad fix? Tell me what you think of this:

So my Mother and Father got a letter from the District Attorney today informing them that they had committed a felony. The crime that they are being accused of is allowing my sixteen-year-old Sister to skip school. My parents have done no such thing! Everything falls on my sister’s shoulder, but the D.A. sees differently.

Let me give you a brief history lesson about the past year at my house. I am twenty-seven and I live at home with my fiancé. We both work part time while finishing our college degrees. My parents both work full time and leave before five in the morning. We live in walking distance from the school, (two blocks), and so my sister doesn’t need to ride the bus.

The problem is that she has ‘trouble’ waking up in the mornings, she ignores her alarm clocks, ignores phone calls intended to wake her up, and speaks to me like I’m **** when I try to remind her to wake up. At first she was only making it late, and then she started missing first period all together. Then, she started skipping and claiming that she ‘over slept’ when I came home at one in the afternoon. School ends at two thirty, so at that point the day is wasted.

Finally, I decided to drive her to school myself believing that this would deter her from skipping. I was wrong. I found out that when I dropped her off, she’d make like she was walking inside and then sneak out and hide either in our garage attic or at her friend Freedom’s house, (yes, his name is FREEDOM). After I figured this out, I realized it was a waste of my time, stress, and gasoline to drive her there and went back to waking her up.

Then, she had two new tricks up her sleeve. To make it to school on time, she has to leave at seven a.m. and so to fool me into thinking she has left, my Sister has decided to hide in the closet and sleep in there until she ‘feels’ like waking up. I have caught her in there twice already.

On the days that my Father is off, he wakes her up and on one of these days, he sent her off to school and watched her walk down the street until she disappeared around the corner; however, my Father had his suspicions and drove out to make sure she went. He caught her sitting just out of sight on the curb. He dragged her into the car and walked her into school before going to speak to the truancy office. They informed him that the case of my Sister’s truancy had already been sent to the D.A.’s office.

Here is the major problem, my Father is a sheriff and my Mother works for the U.S.P.S, they are both civil servants. If this goes to court not only will our family be fined a minimum of $500, (my Mother, Father, and Sister can all be fined, meaning we could even pay $1500), and there is a chance that one of them is sent to jail. If my parents go to jail, they will lose their jobs. This means that my family will lose the house and the cars.

And how did my Sister react when we warned her of this? She laughed, called us liars, and told us she doesn’t care.

my brother was pretty stupid during his high school years.

He had 3 DUI's before he was 17 and totaled 2 vehicles. Lawyers....Jail. I think I have had breakfast in EVERY jail in North Alabama waiting for them to let him out. (Cullman County has particularly good breakfasts)

He also did drugs. Started at 15. marijuana....little stuff. then harder and harder things. (if you can't tell, my brother is a bit of a follower. He'll basically do anything his peer group tells him to)

He wasn't allowed to walk at his graduation....did he graduate? (i can't remember)

He chased me around the house with a knife once. He also locked me in the deep freezer we had in the garage. We weren't exactly close....

He and my dad fought EVERY night. My dad has high blood pressure. there were a couple times i thought he would stroke out. Seriously. I've never seen someone turn purple before.

My Dad's in the army....I know what it means if federal employees get convicted of a felony.

well....my point to sharing all that is that he's now doing well for himself. He has a house and a family and a fairly decent job. You're sister sounds alot like my brother. She will grow up. she will realize she's stupid. She'll get it one day.

the DA is most likely just trying to get your parent's attention. if Iwere them, I'd let sister go to Juvy....you don't sleep through alarms there. Did wonders for my brother.

Annoying ass motherf*cking sister. She sounds really stupid and annoying and really aggravating. I know what both of you are talking about. My brother went to high school, transferred to another and then got kicked out, he got bad grades, and had to live with my aunt really far just to go to school and then he dropped out. So my oldest brother wasted so much gas to pick him up on the weekends just for him to drop out. He had a few jobs and didn't even last because he chose not to go. And has recently got a new one and is probably lying about going there now.

He also crashed his girlfriends car and basically destroyed it for good. And he doesn't even have a license and he got so many tickets that day for damage, fighting, and driving without a perment. And guess who had to pay those tickets, my mom. The worst thing is that his girlfriend has a kid and cheated on her dude to be with my brother and she is like from 3-5 years older than him, the b*tch also doesn't care for her kid and gives my brother more attention. He also cheats on her 24/7 and is a women beater, never home, steals money from us, and causes a lot of trouble for me and everyone else. He hangs out with gang bangers and try's to act like one. Me and him always get into physical fights and I have busted the wall twice with him and he has five years on me so of course he beats my ass.

My point is that not everyone comes to there senses and your sister needs to get set straight before anything bad happens.

My father is a sherriff, and he is not only angry at my sister's actions, but offended too. As a family we typically do what we can to protect each other in spite of our inner battles and bickering. My parents bent over backwards for my sister and me so we can have a better life, and I do what I can to repay them...

My sister, however, sees differently. She wants that endless summer, she wants things handed to her, she feels she doesn't have to do anything to get what she wants.

Thank you for your replies, now that I've had a few days to mellow down I can see that I'm not the only one out there with troubled siblings. I know I'm not alone.

I just hope that if we do go to court, the judge won't send my parents to jail. Maybe he/she will listen to our plea and undrestand what's really going on. I don't want my sister to go to Juvy, I was thinking Job Corps. It worked for my friend Justen when he was living with us, why not her?

tbh, it seems like your parents are strict people...so the blame has to come down on possibly her friends. is she hanging out with the wrong crowd? cause if so, thats the problem

Their psychologist, (my parents and sistet go see one every now and then), said yesterday that he thinks that my sister is suffering from depression. He has requested that my parents get her tested, even though he can't prescribe anything, he may be able to point us to a psychiatrist that can.

Good grief, Jade! It sounds like your sister feels like she's above the law and whatever she does will not hurt her.

I hope things will work out and everything will be okay.

That's what I thought, when I read what you wrote. Does that make me a psychologist? Sleeping all the time, not really caring about stuff... I've been there, sounds like depression to me.
