Word. Also, people who do this seriously over-estimate the market for TMNT comics.

I can, if I ever have it TO spend. Which is doubtful.

This ended up selling for a truck load more than I thought a contemporary piece would ever go for. Anyone wanna own up to it?

I dunno how you missed it. Its been up on the Mirage site all week long

Is there really that much demand for modern Mirage art? Or is it that it was made into a print? or that it benefits Jake? Explain this to me!

ah i rarely check the mirage site out, im mostly on this one and some other ones. I think the fact that it was a print and featured on Peter's blog really pushed it. Its a nice piece and collaborative one at that too. but like anything, you never really know how much something is worth to someone. now i have to check mirage daily too lol. cheers.

I actually put a high bid (under 400), obviously I was way off. The reason I was willing to pay that much was for several reasons:

1) yes because it was turned into a print

2) a good cause

3) (MAIN REASON) I want an artwork that has work from all the mirage crew and this seemed to be a great piece for that. Don't see many pieces like this.

Congrats to whom ever won it!

Crazy high price, highest I've seen for modern art. Maybe I'm pricing my goods too low...

I'm thinking though that in this case it was the donation. Maybe Pete and the guys let a few deep pockets know about it? Then again, with art, you simply just never know. Someone(s) simply may have wanted it really, really bad.

If I had the cash, I would've paid that for the jam piece. Main reasons being what was just said - a great work of art featuring the last Mirage line-up, and because it's going to a good cause. But if I had the cash, i'd buy alot of things that I can't afford right now. Sigh.

Well, thats the thing. "Ifs" and "Would ofs" and "love tos" don't much count. Anybody could say that they would; it's when the money actually moves that it counts. I guess I'm just saying that having bought and sold on all price levels of TMNT art for years now, from modern pieces to vintage covers, there is simply NOTHING that tells me that this piece should have gone for that much. It's a great image, no doubt. Great Jam piece that doesnt come around like, ever. But $600 worth? And it looks like about 3 people were bidding up around $600 mark. So I'm leaning towards the charitable aspect as a driving force, but there is definately a chance that 3 people fell in love with this image to drive it up higher than any modern commisions/published pieces I've seen go for. I'd say generally speaking, its a $300+ piece. Course, thats just my opinion. Either way, I am VERY happy for jake!

I can't believe that price was so high. I watched it but once it hit $100 i bailed. Perhaps since it has the core group of guys with original pieces plus the good cause blend made it go so high.

Yeah that price was not accurate with how much it is worth. Well, its worth whatever people pay for it but I mean, for about $200ish or so more you could pick up and early, published piece. Idk.
