Which Medium Portrayed Him Best?
Hey all. Being without internet and Turtles in general for a whole week, which drove me nuts, I randomly just started thinking about stuff I wanted to ask once I was able to use a computer again. My computer died (sorta) on me (motherboard), so I had to wait until payday to get a new comp, which was today.
Anywho, in your opinion, which medium do you feel that Mikey was the best portrayed. I've come across on this board how so many people have disliked his portrayal in like say the 2k3 series and stuff, and how he's the literal clown of the group. Now, in my opinion, based on the mediums I have been exposed to, OT, Archie comics, Mirage comics, I'd have to say the OT series. I don't remember enough about TNM to comment on that (but didn't he hit on Venus a lot?). I felt that the Archie comics didn't focus enough on Mikey's character, 'cept for when he was taken captive by the government, and Mirage is a bit better, but still didn't focus on him enough and was overshadowed by the other three, but I am still early in the Mirage series. I'm only up to the part where the Turtles are about to head back to the city to look for Shredder from Casey's grandmother's farmhouse. So, which medium, in your opinion, is the best as far as Mikey's character is (was) concerned, and why? Guess you can toss in the four movies too. |

The first 3 live-action movies. Michaelangelo had a perfect portrayal there.

I liked how Archie comics depicted him. He still a little goofy, but also very artistic. Plus he was pretty brave!

2k3 Mikey was my favourite and almost had me hesitate in changing him into my favourite character when Leo had always reigned supreme.

I thought Mirage and Image comics protrayed him best. He was friendly, funny and mature but I also enjoyed the archie version of him too.

For me the definitive version of Mike is the Mirage, though I do agree that he was lacking in the "screen time" arena.
Close second though are the live action movies.

The first movie, Mirage, and Image. Although, despite his goofy persona in the 2k3, I think they (4Kids) did an awesome job at showing Mikey's fighting abilities (ex: Notes from the Underground). He's an extremely capable fighter, besting Raphael a few times. He's fastest, too. I think he could even give Leo a run for his money...I think that is what I like about Mikey most...his ability to be so light hearted yet kick some serious arse.

Wow...am I alone in thinking 4kids' Mikey was probbably the worst Mikey?
Mirage Mikey is probably the best Mikey IMO...since he seems to have the most depth.

I like most versions of Mikey...save 2k3. (and Next Mutation...maybe. I haven't seen much more than the pilot movie)

My favorite Mikey will always be that of "Vol. 3" (otherwise known as the Image series). They really fleshed him out in there. Took away the goofy veil and gave him some real depth. He loved children (babysat Shadow all the time) and writing/literature, took a love interest, etc. He was very well rounded & leaps & bounds more likable than that of 2k3, for example. I do have a soft spot for movie Mike, though. That is, the first one.

Image and Mirage Mike without a doubt. I like all versions of Mike, but as mentioned those really give the guy some character and little glimpses into his mind, which is actually far more complex and artistic than he lets his brothers know. I think that quiet artistic intelligence is why Splinter doesn't ride his ass on training even though he has the potential to be the best skilled ninja out of the four.

Good point here, this is what I was saying ini my post as well. I think Mikey's fighting potential really goes unnoticed a lot of the time. Despite the flaws of 2k3 Mike, they really did show his fighting prowess well.
