The 2012 April
Loosely reading around the threads/posts, along with words directly from the chosen ones (fan preview event), Miss 2012 April O'Neil will, at the moment anyways ("mutation IN PROGRESS"!), be a 16 year-old girl. "typilcal" and "rebel"are the two words I'm hearing. Those words belonging to the April they saw in the pilot animatic.
I see the 16 yearold April as a fantastic oppurtunity. Make her ambitious and always wanting to be part of the action, like the '80s cartoon April. I can see her having an interest for objects and oddities of year's past, like the antique shop-ownin' April of 2003 series/mirage comics. And maybe her and Donnie boy can strike up a beautiful friendship, which will begin exposing her to a hidden love she'd thought she'd never be into- SCIENCE! All the while being trained to become a ninja by Master Splinter himself! In short- the ultimate April. Dromers, which do you prefer? The bland, typical teen April, or the ambitious, science-loving, antique enthusiast teen April? thoughts? |

I wouldn't go so far as to say the ULTIMATE April, but if she can be like this:
She at least will be an interesting and likable character.

I Agree, I won't say this could be the ultimate April, but definately could be my favorite incarnation of her. Everybody ask why would she hang around Turtles, but truth be told, she is probably a social outcast in school and probable relates to them.

People said she looks much younger than 16, like she's about 12. Meh.
They should at least design her to look like a teenager, not a flat-chested 12 year old. |

jeeze is everything creepy now? Hey we're on a franchise forum aimed at kids, thats creepy as well right?
Anyways I too think a younger April is full of possibilities and yeah she can have the same traits April is known for, no reason why she can't be interested in science and technology, heck she can even join the HS Newspaper. I think 2k3 April was a bit lacking and she wasn't that important either most of the times, so this new take definitely has potential to have her more with the turtles. I do hope she doesn't look too young though since it would border Zack the Fifth turtle territory. A teenager can actually be competent a kid? not so much, so I hope she is a teen and not a pre-teen.

I still think we'll see April and the Turtles working together to save her newly mutated parents. Is that enough motivation for he to bot just "be there?"

I like the idea of a teen April. She will prob get herself into a lot more trouble than the OT April.

We live in different times than when the OT came out, April was written that way of always getting into trouble because that was how a lot of shows worked back then, not necessarily like that anymore, shows are much better written so I doubt they'll use that plot more than a few times, certainly not every other episode like the OT did. You don't see Superman saving Lois all the time in recent shows anymore, sure it may happen but its not like it was before where that is all Superman was known for.

I don't agree completely. In 2k3 she was very important up into season 4 or so. S1-3 she was vital. She did house them, hack the foot building, gave them info when needed. helped them on multiple mission. But S5-S7 she was completely useless and was detatched from the turtles.

I like the fact that she's gonna be a teenager. Like Plastroncafe said, it's kinda weird for a full grown adult woman to constantly hang out with teenagers (mutant or not).
Lol, you should come up here more often. I like your reactions to Cybercubed. |

Or I thought it was kind of adorable in the Turtle Titian episode when all his brothers are picking on him Mike turns to April to tell about his dreams and much like a Mom or even older Sister she helps him out to achieve them. Which later in the comic series considering April can't have her own kids I think her relationship with both Shadow and the guys becomes even more special.

Also, her age will allow for some interesting character development. I doubt this show will have a tight time-line like a Greg Weisman show (Young Justice, Spectacular Spider-man) but if it lasts long enough we could definitely see April age from season to season. |

I have steadily been defending April's transition to a teen in the new series but it leaves a bad taste in my mouth if we suddenly start saying it's better because the family April built with all the characters in pretty much every previous version of the franchise is "creepy". The guys rescue April and she helps them defeat Baxter Stockman, they then lose their Father (who is pretty much the center of there sheltered world) and the only other being they can turn to is April. She takes them in and gives them a place to stay, feeds them and takes care of them much like a Mom would. April is estranged or apart from most of her family, the guys don't have that much family so they all take care of each other. One of my absolute favorite parts of the City At War comics is the last issue when April is sad that Splinter left without saying goodbye and talking to the woods tells him about how her Father passed but in the last few years she felt like she has had a second Father. And Splinter walks out and hugs her and calls her daughter. Is that weird too?? I am baffled ![]() Quote:

I just hope they don't treat April like the 5th turtle. The fact that she's apparently training in martial arts as early as the first season for goodness sakes pretty much eludes to that.
I've always seen April as an older sister to the Turtles, because she's always been older than them. I guess her being around their age will take some getting used to. |
